Rethinking political representation: The case of institutionalised feminist organisations in Chile

    No full text
The conventional approach to political representation posits a relationship between representatives and represented built on authorisation and accountability between a principal and an agent through elections. Important though that is, my argument in this article will be that focusing exclusively on elections leaves a blind spot, namely the representation which is performed by actors outside of this traditional arena1. Specifically, I aim to show, through the case of Chile, that the ‘political’ activity of the institutionalised feminist organisations is political representation. © 2008, Copyright McDougall Trust, London.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
