The results of the X-ray diffraction study at ambient temperature on a new butylenediammonium pentachlorobismuthate (III) hydrate [NH3(CH2)4NH3]BiCl5*H2O single crystal are presented. The anionic sublattice of the crystal is built up of isolated Bi2Cl4-10 units composed of distorted octahedral BiCl3-6 connected with each other by an edge. In voids of anionic sublattice butylenediammonium cations are located. The water species are placed between the layers formed by organic cations along the c axis. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), coupled differential thermal and thermogravimetric (DTA-TGA) studies are reported and indicate that this compound shows, at high temperatures, a dehydration which is clearly shown by means of Raman spectroscopy at various temperatures. The infrared and Raman spectra have been recorded at ambient temperature and interpreted on the basis of literature data
