Mini-TEA-CO_2-Laser, seine Applikation und applikationsbezogene Anpassung Abschlussbericht
New applications are presented of the mini TEA CO_2 laser, the function, power parameters and a new arangement for the pulse shortening. - A new method is founded for the steel hardening and it was tested the collinear combination of a kilowatt cw and a TEA CO_2 laser beam. The wavelength tuning of the mini TEA laser is optimized in the wavelength region at 9,6 #mu#m. - New results are presented about the application of the mini laser in the dentistry. Caries dentin is removed twice as much as healty dentin. The laser treatment melt the dentin cappilarys together and in this way the penetration of tixic material is prevented. - Human hard tissue (enamel, dentin, bone) is drilled with high efficiency. - In the biomaterial research was found, that the stability of metal plastic compound systems was 10 to 100 times higher after laser treatment in comparison without laser treatment. - Essential knowledge has been obtained on laser matter interaction. Laserspektroskopische Diagnostik von Laser-Wechselwirkungsprozessen in oberflaechennahen Bereichen
Time resolved spectroscopic investigations on the ablation plume of the inorganic materials CaF_2, sapphire and aluminium were carried out using absorption-, fluorescence- and laser induced fluorescence-spectroscopy. Sapphire and aluminium exhibit a similar thermal ablation behaviour. AlO is not emitted from the sapphire bulk material, but is formed in the plasma plume. CaF is supposed to be emitted from the CaF_2 bulk. In preablation studies the destruction threshold of thin layers for excimer UV lasers have been determined. Fluorescence spectroscopy can be used for the detection of oxygen on polymer surfaces and for the characterization of radiation resistance of polymer materials. By UV laser the homogeneity of polymer photoresist layers could by verified in the #mu#m region. Optische Schaltprozesse im Ultrakurzzeitbereich Abschlussbericht
The project was meant to investigate the physical principles of future optical communication systems with repetition rates of several 100Gb/s up to Tb/s. The main goal was the development of ultrafast diagnostic techniques for the important spectral range of 1.3-1.6 #mu#m and their application for the investigation of multi quantum well semiconductor structures, which are planned to be used in photonic systems as fast switching devices, as well as for the characterization of the physical and technical limits of ultrafast optical switching processes in fibers. Fs- and ps-light sources based on nonlinear optical methods and Ti:Sapphire-laser technology were developed. These laser systems are used for pump-probe investigations with resolution extending down into the sub-100 fs region. For this purpose we have built up and characterized experimental set-ups based on correlations methods. It has been shown, that it is possible to get time resolved measurements of transmission and reflection changes of the order of 10"-"3 or ultrafast phase shifts of the order of 0.01#pi#-#pi#. We used a new method to investigate ultrafast switching using the optical Kerr-effect in optical fibers. The necessary THz-testpulses were generated with a modified Michelson-interferometer. Ultrafast wavelength shifts due to cross phase modulation as well as polarization switching have been investigated. The use of short fibers reduces the latency of optical communication systems. We have shown demultiplexing with rates of 460Gb/s. Analytical and numerical models gave a good theoretical explanation of the low switching efficiency as well as the shape of the demodulated signals. Further optimization is being discussed.
