Coupling parameters and the form of the potential via Noether symmetry
We explore the conditions for the existence of Noether symmetries in the
dynamics of FRW metric, non minimally coupled with a scalar field, in the most
general situation, and with nonzero spatial curvature. When such symmetries are
present we find general exact solution for the Einstein equations. We also show
that non Noether symmetries can be found.
Finally,we present an extension of the procedure to the Kantowski- Sachs
metric which is particularly interesting in the case of degenerate Lagrangian.Comment: 13 pages, no figure
Generalized Brans-Dicke cosmology in the presence of matter and dark energy
We study the Generalized Brans-Dicke cosmology in the presence of matter and
dark energy. Of particular interest for a constant Brans-Dicke parameter, the
de Sitter space has also been investigated.Comment: 9 page
Astrophysical constraints on primordial black holes in Brans-Dicke theory
We consider cosmological evolution in Brans-Dicke theory with a population of
primordial black holes. Hawking radiation from the primordial black holes
impacts various astrophysical processes during the evolution of the Universe.
The accretion of radiation by the black holes in the radiation dominated era
may be effective in imparting them a longer lifetime. We present a detailed
study of how this affects various standard astrophysical constraints coming
from the evaporation of primordial black holes. We analyze constraints from the
present density of the Universe, the present photon spectrum, the distortion of
the cosmic microwave background spectrum and also from processes affecting
light element abundances after nucleosynthesis. We find that the constraints on
the initial primordial black hole mass fractions are tightened with increased
accretion efficiency.Comment: 15 page
Phase-plane analysis of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies in Brans-Dicke gravity
We present an autonomous phase-plane describing the evolution of
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models containing a perfect fluid (with barotropic
index gamma) in Brans-Dicke gravity (with Brans-Dicke parameter omega). We find
self-similar fixed points corresponding to Nariai's power-law solutions for
spatially flat models and curvature-scaling solutions for curved models. At
infinite values of the phase-plane variables we recover O'Hanlon and Tupper's
vacuum solutions for spatially flat models and the Milne universe for negative
spatial curvature. We find conditions for the existence and stability of these
critical points and describe the qualitative evolution in all regions of the
(omega, gamma) parameter space for 0-3/2. We show that the
condition for inflation in Brans-Dicke gravity is always stronger than the
general relativistic condition, gamma<2/3.Comment: 24 pages, including 9 figures, LaTe
Self-similar cosmological solutions with a non-minimally coupled scalar field
We present self-similar cosmological solutions for a barotropic fluid plus
scalar field with Brans-Dicke-type coupling to the spacetime curvature and an
arbitrary power-law potential energy. We identify all the fixed points in the
autonomous phase-plane, including a scaling solution where the fluid density
scales with the scalar field's kinetic and potential energy. This is related by
a conformal transformation to a scaling solution for a scalar field with
exponential potential minimally coupled to the spacetime curvature, but
non-minimally coupled to the barotropic fluid. Radiation is automatically
decoupled from the scalar field, but energy transfer between the field and
non-relativistic dark matter can lead to a change to an accelerated expansion
at late times in the Einstein frame. The scalar field density can mimic a
cosmological constant even for steep potentials in the strong coupling limit.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, revtex version to appear in Phys Rev D,

Primordial and asymptotic inflation in Brans-Dicke cosmology
The basic motivation of this work is to attempt to explain the rapid
primordial inflation and the observed slow late-time inflation by using the
Brans-Dicke theory of gravity. We show that the ratio of these two inflation
parameters is proportional to the square root of the Brans-Dicke parameter . We also calculate the Hubble parameter and the
time variation of the time dependent Newtonian gravitational constant for
both regimes. The variation of the Hubble parameter predicted by Brans-Dicke
cosmology is shown to be consistent with recent measurements: The value of
in the late-time future is predicted as 0.86 times the present value of .Comment: 7 pages, no figure
Constraints from Inflation on Scalar-Tensor Gravity Theories
We show how observations of the perturbation spectra produced during
inflation may be used to constrain the parameters of general scalar-tensor
theories of gravity, which include both an inflaton and dilaton field. An
interesting feature of these models is the possibility that the curvature
perturbations on super-horizon scales may not be constant due to non-adiabatic
perturbations of the two fields. Within a given model, the tilt and relative
amplitude of the scalar and tensor perturbation spectra gives constraints on
the parameters of the gravity theory, which may be comparable with those from
primordial nucleosynthesis and post-Newtonian experiments.Comment: LaTeX (with RevTex) 19 pages, 8 uuencoded figures appended, also

Brans-Dicke Theory and primordial black holes in Early Matter-Dominated Era
We show that primordial black holes can be formed in the matter-dominated era
with gravity described by the Brans-Dicke theory. Considering an early
matter-dominated era between inflation and reheating, we found that the
primordial black holes formed during that era evaporate at a quicker than those
of early radiation-dominated era. Thus, in comparison with latter case, less
number of primordial black holes could exist today. Again the constraints on
primordial black hole formation tend towards the larger value than their
radiation-dominated era counterparts indicating a significant enhancement in
the formation of primordial black holes during the matter-dominaed era.Comment: 9 page
Stability analysis of agegraphic dark energy in Brans-Dicke cosmology
Stability analysis of agegraphic dark energy in Brans-Dicke theory is
presented in this paper. We constrain the model parameters with the
observational data and thus the results become broadly consistent with those
expected from experiment. Stability analysis of the model without best fitting
shows that universe may begin from an unstable state passing a saddle point and
finally become stable in future. However, with the best fitted model, There is
no saddle intermediate state. The agegraphic dark energy in the model by itself
exhibits a phantom behavior. However, contribution of cold dark matter on the
effective energy density modifies the state of teh universe from phantom phase
to quintessence one. The statefinder diagnosis also indicates that the universe
leaves an unstable state in the past, passes the LCDM state and finally
approaches the sable state in future.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figure
