Stocking, Enhancement, and Mariculture of Penaeus orientalis and Other Species in Shanghai and Zhejiang Provinces, China
China's marine aquaculture landings provide only 18% of its combined freshwater and amrine capture and culture landings, at a per-capita consumption of only 3.2 kg/yr out of a total of 18.1 kg/yr. We described development and some of the results of long-term mariculture and stocking/enhancement projects that have been underway for up to 20 years in the Hangzhou Bay area. Penaeus orientalis (also referred to as P. chinensis) stocking provided up to 400 t/yr, at a total cost-benefit ratio of up to 8 Yuan of landed shrimp per Yuan invested in shrimp stocking. Over 40 t of Penaeus orientalis were produced commercially in 1993, with proceeds being used to fund mariculture and fisheries research. Large scale edible jellyfish restocking is also underway, while semicommercial culture of abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, has been successful. Vector boson production in association with KK modes of the ADD model to NLO in QCD at LHC
Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the associated production of vector
boson (Z/W) with the the Kaluza-Klein modes of the graviton in large extra
dimensional model at the LHC, are presented. We have obtained various kinematic
distributions using a Monte Carlo code which is based on the two cut off phase
space slicing method that handles soft and collinear singularities appearing at
NLO level. We estimate the impact of the QCD corrections on various observables
and find that they are significant. We also show the reduction in factorization
scale uncertainty when QCD corrections are included.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Coping Ability of Medical and Nursing Students: A Cause of Concern
Background: Medical students today are subject to a variety of stress; academic, social, emotional or stress in the form of affliction of health during their stay at medical school. The physiological response to these depends on various factors including their inherent coping abilities. This study was designed to examine the coping ability of medical and nursing students at the time of admission to medical school. Materials and Methods: 42 medical and 34 nursing students volunteered for the study. They were administered the BAI questionnaire and classified as good and poor adjusters based on their score. Results: The study revealed an unsatisfactory overall coping ability to be prevalent among medical and nursing students. Conclusion: This study showed that there is a need for orientation and counselling of medical and nursing students at the start of college
Model Independent Primordial Power Spectrum from Maxima, Boomerang, and DASI Data
A model-independent determination of the primordial power spectrum of matter
density fluctuations could uniquely probe physics of the very early universe,
and provide powerful constraints on inflationary models. We parametrize the
primordial power spectrum as an arbitrary function, and deduce its
binned amplitude from the cosmic microwave background radiation anisotropy
(CMB) measurements of Maxima, Boomerang, and DASI. We find that for a flat
universe with (scale-invariant) for scales h/Mpc, the
primordial power spectrum is marginally consistent with a scale-invariant
Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum. However, we deduce a rise in power compared to a
scale-invariant power spectrum for 0.001 h/{Mpc} \la k \la 0.01 h/{Mpc}. Our
results are consistent with large-scale structure data, and seem to suggest
that the current observational data allow for the possibility of unusual

Do Linear Dispersions of Classical Waves Mean Dirac Cones?
By using the \vec{k}\cdot\vec{p} method, we propose a first-principles theory
to study the linear dispersions in phononic and photonic crystals. The theory
reveals that only those linear dispersions created by doubly-degenerate states
can be described by a reduced Hamiltonian that can be mapped into the Dirac
Hamiltonian and possess a Berry phase of -\pi. Triply-degenerate states can
also generate Dirac-like cone dispersions, but the wavefunctions transform like
a spin-1 particle and the Berry phase is zero. Our theory is capable of
predicting accurately the linear slopes of Dirac/Dirac-like cones at various
symmetry points in a Brilliouin zone, independent of frequency and lattice
structure
Application and Validation of Concept Maturity Assessment Framework
Far too often decision makers select concepts based on insufficient data, resulting in projects that are over-budget, over-schedule, and not what the customer wants. Research efforts have proposed a stage-gated concept maturity framework as a tool to assess and increase the maturity of concepts. This research uses multiple validation techniques to demonstrate the value this framework can provide. Interviews with acquisition professionals capture qualitative and quantitative data on the utility of the elements of the framework and the acquisition process. This research also applies the framework to a current acquisition program to determine if it can be broadly applied for different types of developments. Lastly, this research looks to current acquisition policy and guidance to see if there is support for the maturity elements of the framework. The results of this study led the research team to accept the framework as a useful guide and approach to assessing a concept\u27s maturity. The majority of responses were favorable towards the activities recommended in the framework. The researchers were able to apply the framework in real-time to a concept in early development to the benefit of the sponsoring organization. The results of this study have also led to the formation of themes, best-practices, and lessons-learned concerning early concept development. The results affirm that when developing a concept people make the difference, more resources up-front are needed to fully understand a concept, and developers should avoid constraining the trade-space by pre-supposing a solution

Lupins are well adapted to the cooler, long-season environments of the southern coastal sandplain. of Western Australia. This trial aims to help establish varietal characteristics required to produce high-yielding lupin crops in the cool, long-season environment of southern Australia. The specific aim is to determine the influence of sowing date on the growth and yield of lupin varieties differing in maturity and branching habit in the south-coast environment.

Low harvest index (H.I.) is often suggested as the cause of poor lupin seed yields, and it is argued that all vegetative lupin crops have inherently poor pod set and low harvest index. By sampling LVT\u27s across a wide range of sites in 1986 and selected sites in 1987, we aimed to determine the effect of environment on lupin growth, branching, seed yield, H.I. and yield components. Sampling of two branching genotypes and a reduced branching line would permit the assessment of genotypic effects and any G x E interactions.
