Romania had important trade relations with the Mediterranean countries since before 1990. Subsequently, in both the pre-accession and post-accession period, this group of countries took together about 47% of the extra-EU Romanian agri-food exports and 16% of the extra-EU imports (averages 2002-2016). On the other hand, the imports of vegetables from the Mediterranean area are severely competing the Romanian domestic production (which is rather large, but is very poorly organized all along the supply chains), while the imports of fruit are competing the EU domestic production and intra-EU trade. The present paper is analyzing the dynamics and changes in competitiveness of the Romanian agri-food trade with the Mediterranean countries, in terms of value and volume, composition by products and partners. The results show a significant increase in the Romanian exports to the Mediterranean countries (which lead to the shift of the country’s regional trade balance from negative to positive since 2010), as well as competitiveness gains on the main destinations markets in the region

The complex development of rural areas has become an object of national importance given that Romania is currently a member of the European Union with countries like France, Italy, Denmark, Germany, but the development of Romanian economy is far from the economy of these countries, which led to increased theoretical and practical concerns in this area. Many traditional approaches are not appropriate market economy, especially rural areas. This requires a modern approach to it, given that rural areas have a variety of local resources that can be valued higher on sustainability for rural development to take place. In this paper we approached the countryside in all its complexity, focusing on social and cultural aspects of rural communities and the role of these functions in the inevitable process of globalization

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) first occurred in late December 2019 at the Hunan Seafood Market in Wuhan, China, and was declared an international public health emergency in a matter of weeks by the World Health Organization. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) affects every area of human life, including the environment. Measures are taken to control the spread of the virus and the slowdown in economic activities have significant positive effects on the environment. Through this study, the authors intend to track the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the environment by analyzing the available scientific literature. The study indicates that the pandemic situation significantly improves air quality in various cities around the world, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, reduces water pollution and noise, and reduces pressure on tourist destinations, which can help restore ecological systems. It is noted that there are some negative consequences of the pandemic, such as the increase in medical waste through the use and disposal of disinfectants, masks, and gloves but also the burden of untreated waste that endangers the environment continuously. It seems that shortly after the pandemic the economic activities will return and the situation could change. Therefore, this study highlights the potential positive impacts of the pandemic on the environment in the long term. It is expected that the correct implementation of the proposed strategies can be useful for the global sustainability of the environment

Employment rate is one of the basic criteria by which to measure the level of a country's economic development and ability to provide jobs. The effects of financial and economic crisis are felt strongly in Romania so traders and population. Increasing the number of unemployed is not based on labor productivity growth or a restructuring in production. Traders closed their business not to generate losses, causing a drop in gross domestic product, implicit in the economy but also to each individual. Currently requires that economic recovery which would increase demand for labor and and through this massive absorption of the unemployed by their reintegration into productive activity, with positive effect on reducing the economic crisis.
