Intelligent Agents for Human Behavior modeling as Support to operations

    Get PDF
Goal of the present chapter is providing support to operations planning and management in complex scenarios. The authors are mainly focused on South Asia region, which is subject of experimental analysis by running an Intelligent Agents \u2014driven HLA Federation. Simulation of investments and operations over an asymmetric mission environment with several parties, insurgents, terrorists and dynamic social framework is the aim. The scenario has various degrees of freedom and M&S enables evaluation of human behavior evolution and socio-psychological aspects. The presented models include Computer Generated Forces (CGF) driven by Intelligent Agents (IAs) that represents not only units on the battlefield, but also people and interest groups (i.e. Middle Class, Nomads, Clans). The study is focused on Civil Military Co-operations (CIMIC) and Psychological Operations (PSYOPs). The simulation is based on specific architecture that involves various federates playing different roles. Verification, Validation and Accreditation (VV&A) has been applied along the whole life cycle of the research, in order to determine the correctness and effectiveness of the results. The paper proposes experimental results obtained during the dynamic test of the federations

INNOVATIVE MODELLING OF SOCIAL NETWORKS FOR REPRODUCING COMPLEX SCENARIOS

    Get PDF
The development of simulators able to reproduce the social network dynamics and their reactions to events and actions is a promising sector for extending the potential of Modeling in modern scenarios; in these contexts the simulations are usually devoted to support training and decision making. In particular it is interesting to reproduce the web social networks as interoperable simulators with main scenario models. The authors propose an approach for creating models of people and related web social networks to recreate their dynamics during simulation runs, experimentations and exercises. The paper presents an example of using this system to address complex scenarios where human factors are fundamental

Simulation of crisis affecting critical infrastructures and industrial plants

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a model for reproducing human behaviors and it is devoted to evaluate the operation performance in case of crisis with special attention to cases involving multiple actors such as fire-fighters, police, ambulances, civil protection and national reserve. The paper present the general scheme and the data structure used to conduct experiments related to cases of flooding and hazardous material spills in industrial and urban areas

POPULATION BEHAVIOR, SOCIAL NETWORKS, TRANSPORTATIONS, INFRASTRUCTURES, INDUSTRIAL AND URBAN SIMULATION

Crisis prevention and management are critical tasks for a public administration. In facts, a complex system such as a city could be difficult to keep under control, even in regular conditions, while respect emergencies it is very hard to finalize good preventive and operational plans. In order to succeed in such tasks, it is necessary to have proper support tools, capable to evaluate alternatives and predict effect of decisions in different conditions. To address such issues, the authors developed PONTUS (Population Behavior, social Networks, Transportations, Infrastructures and Industrial & Urban Simulation) which combines ability to model natural disasters with advanced human behaviors of the population

Simulation of power plant environmental impacts within the extended marine framework

    Get PDF
This paper proposes the use of Modelling and Simulation to analyse the different Environmental Impacts of Industrial Facilities with special attention to Power Plant located within the Extended Maritime Framework. The approach proposed is based on combining different simulation approaches to be able to reproduce the phenomena affecting this context in a comprehensive way. The simulation experimental results are dynamically presented and updated within a Synthetic Environment, based on a Serious Game, in order to be able to augment the virtual representation with additional information. It is proposed a case study related to a Power Plant including different Gas Turbines located in front the coast and the scenario include the evaluation of the emissions on the Atmosphere, Sea Water and Ground, the inclusions on these domains as well as their impact on the flora, fauna and social layers

AGILE SOLUTIONS & DATA ANALITICS FOR LOGISTICS PROVIDERS BASED ON SIMULATION

    Get PDF
The current advances are enabling the development of new solutions in data analytics and decision making in many fields; it is quite interesting to analyze the impact of this approach on logistics providers; this paper proposes examples of these challenges in this context as well as an example of a simulation based solution able to interconnect the different information sources and to fuse the data in order to analyze the logistics processes and support decisions. The proposed solution is based on web services and web application that are adopting the MSaaS concept (Modeling & Simulation as a Service) by using stochastic models

IMMERSIVE, INTEROPERABLE AND INTUITIVE MIXED REALITY FOR SERVICE IN INDUSTRIAL PLANTS

    Get PDF
The authors propose an innovative Mixed Reality solution representing an immersive intuitive and interoperable environment to support service in industrial plants. These methodologies are related to concepts of Industry 4.0. Solutions based on a mix of VR and AR (Virtual and Augmented Reality ) with special attention to the maintenance of industrial machines; indeed the authors propose an overview of this approach and other synergistic techniques. Moreover, alternative instruments are presented and their specific advantages and disadvantages are described. Particularly, the approach is based on the SPIDER, an advanced interoperable interactive CAVE developed by the authors which supports cooperative work of several users involved in training, troubleshooting and supervision are proposed. Last but not least, an overview of projects using same techniques in other fields, such as construction, risk assessment, Virtual Prototyping and Simulation Based Design is presented
