Factorization in the Production and Decay of the X(3872)

The production and decay of the X(3872) are analyzed under the assumption that the X is a weakly-bound molecule of the charm mesons D^0 \bar D^{*0} and D^{*0} \bar D^0. The decays imply that the large D^0 \bar D^{*0} scattering length has an imaginary part. An effective field theory for particles with a large complex scattering length is used to derive factorization formulas for production rates and decay rates of X. If a partial width is calculated in a model with a particular value of the binding energy, the factorization formula can be used to extrapolate to other values of the binding energy and to take into account the width of the X. The factorization formulas relate the rates for production of X to those for production of D^0 \bar D^{*0} and D^{*0} \bar D^0 near threshold. They also imply that the line shape of X differs significantly from that of a Breit-Wigner resonance.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figures, revtex4, typos correcte

Production of the X(3872) in B Meson Decay by the Coalescence of Charm Mesons

If the recently-discovered charmonium state X(3872) is a loosely-bound S-wave molecule of the charm mesons \bar D^0 D^{*0} or \bar D^{*0} D^0, it can be produced in B meson decay by the coalescence of charm mesons. If this coalescence mechanism dominates, the ratio of the differential rate for B^+ \to \bar D^0 D^{*0} K^+ near the \bar D^0 D^{*0} threshold and the rate for B^+ \to X K^+ is a function of the \bar D^0 D^{*0} invariant mass and hadron masses only. The identification of the X(3872) as a \bar D^0 D^{*0}/\bar D^{*0} D^0 molecule can be confirmed by observing an enhancement in the \bar D^0 D^{*0} invariant mass distribution near the threshold. An estimate of the branching fraction for B^+ \to X K^+ is consistent with observations if X has quantum numbers J^{PC} = 1^{++} and if J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^- is one of its major decay modes.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, revtex

Semiquantitative Analysis of Solid Surfaces by X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(Chemistry)

An application of the equation (1) to the semiquantitative analysis of solid surface by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were performed. chemical formula……(1) Where n is the concentration of the element in terms of atoms per unit volume, N is the intensity of ejected photoelectrons, σ is the photoionization cross section, λ is the mean free path for photoelectron in the sample, and S is the spectrometer (sensitivity) factor. The atomic ratios of oxygen to metal element in some oxides could be obtained with satisfactory results by the application of theoretical values of photoionization cross sections and mean free paths. In this case the summation of main and satellite peak intensities were employed for the calculation. Furthermore the atomic ratio of metallic state elements, oxide state ones and oxygen on copper-nickel alloy surface and surface enrichment of nitrogen and sulfur on iron surface were discussed

Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder: Implications for the Pathogenesis of Lewy Body Diseases

Objectives. Both results of the odor identification and cardiac 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine accumulation have been investigated for their potential to enhance the detection of pathogenesis resembling that of Lewy body-related α-synucleinopathies in patients clinically diagnosed as having idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder. Methods. We performed both the Odor Stick Identification Test for Japanese and 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine scintigraphy in 30 patients with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder, 38 patients with Parkinson's disease, and 20 control subjects. Results. In idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder, reduced odor identification score and an early or delayed heart to mediastinum ratio on 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine were almost as severe as in Parkinson's disease patients. Delayed cardiac 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine uptake was even more severe in the idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder group than in the Parkinson's disease group. Conclusions. Reduced cardiac 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine uptake, which is independent of parkinsonism, may be more closely associated with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder than olfactory impairment

Expression of kininogen, kallikrein and kinin receptor genes by rat cardiomyocytes

AbstractTo ascertain the existence of the kallikrein-kinin system in the heart, we have studied in vivo and in vitro whether rat cardiac tissue expresses kininogen, kallikrein and kinin receptor mRNAs. The reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction demonstrated that the ventricular myocardium of adult male rats expressed mRNAs for T- and low-molecular-weight (L-) kininogens, tissue kallikreins such as true kallikrein and T-kininogenase, and bradykinin B2 receptor, but not those for high-molecular-weight kininogen and B1 receptor. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 0.5 mg/kg, i.v.) increased the levels of mRNA for T-kininogen at 12 h and the bradykinin B1 receptor at 24 h without affecting that for other components. All of these mRNAs for the kallikrein-kinin system were also detected in cultured cardiomyocytes derived from neonatal rat ventricles; dibutyryl cyclic AMP, LPS or inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 and tumor necrosis factor, up-regulated mRNA expression of T-kininogen, T-kininogenase, or B1 receptor in these cells in vitro. These results suggest that there are two kinin-generating systems in rat myocardium comprising T-kininogen/T-kininogenase and L-kininogen/true kallikrein respectively, and that the former may be relatively important in inflammatory diseases or conditions in which cAMP levels increase in cardiomyocytes
