Educación sanitaria en la farmacia comunitaria: estudio controlado en la provincia de Castellón
Introducción: La educación para la salud es una de las actividades que debe realizar el farmacéutico comunitario orientada hacia el paciente. Con el objetivo de conocer la influencia de la educación sanitaria en los pacientes, se realizó un estudio controlado en farmacias comunitarias de la provincia de Castellón.
Material y métodos: En el estudio participaron catorce oficinas de farmacia (siete en el grupo control y siete en el grupo intervención). En todas ellas se realizó una encuesta inicial a los pacientes sobre educación para la salud. En las farmacias del grupo intervención se realizaron cinco campañas de educación sanitaria y al finalizar cada campaña los pacientes completaron una encuesta para valorar la educación sanitaria recibida. En las farmacias del grupo control se pasaron las encuestas a los pacientes pero no se realizaron las campañas de educación sanitaria.
Resultados y discusión: Los pacientes están significativamente más satisfechos con la formación que reciben en las farmacias que realizan educación sanitaria. Además, se incrementa significativamente la percepción que tiene la población del farmacéutico en la oficina de farmacia como punto de referencia a la hora de ayudar a resolver sus problemas de salud. La educación sanitaria permite que los pacientes reciban formación completa acerca de temas de salud que les preocupan y les proporciona más capacidad para resolverlos por ellos mismos.Introduction: Health education is one of the roles of the community pharmacist.A controlled study of pharmacies in the Spanish province of Castellón was carried out with the aim of determining the influence of health education on the general public.

Results and discussion: Patients of the pharmacies in the intervention group were significantly more satisfied with their level of knowledge about health matters than those in the control other group. In addition, the same patients had a significantly more satisfied with the formation they received in the pharmacies that implemented the educational campaigns. In addition, patients of the pharmacies in the intervention group had a significantly better perception of the pharmacist and of the pharmacy as a reference point with respect to resolving their health problems. Health education informs patients about aspects of health and endows them with the aptitude to make decisions related to their health problems

Multipactor radiation analysis within a waveguide region based on a frequency-domain representation of the dynamics of charged particles
A technique for the accurate computation of the electromagnetic fields radiated by a charged particle moving
within a parallel-plate waveguide is presented. Based on a transformation of the time-varying current density
of the particle into a time-harmonic current density, this technique allows the evaluation of the radiated
electromagnetic fields both in the frequency and time domains, as well as in the near- and far-field regions. For
this purpose, several accelerated versions of the parallel-plate Green’s function in the frequency domain have
been considered. The theory has been successfully applied to the multipactor discharge occurring within a two
metal-plates region. The proposed formulation has been tested with a particle-in-cell code based on the finite-

Pollutant dispersion in a developing valley cold-air pool
Pollutants are trapped and accumulate within cold-air pools, thereby affecting air quality. A numerical model is used to quantify the role of cold-air-pooling processes in the dispersion of air pollution in a developing cold-air pool within an alpine valley under decoupled stable conditions. Results indicate that the negatively buoyant downslope flows transport and mix pollutants into the valley to depths that depend on the temperature deficit of the flow and the ambient temperature structure inside the valley. Along the slopes, pollutants are generally entrained above the cold-air pool and detrained within the cold-air pool, largely above the ground-based inversion layer. The ability of the cold-air pool to dilute pollutants is quantified. The analysis shows that the downslope flows fill the valley with air from above, which is then largely trapped within the cold-air pool, and that dilution depends on where the pollutants are emitted with respect to the positions of the top of the ground-based inversion layer and cold-air pool, and on the slope wind speeds. Over the lower part of the slopes, the cold-air-pool-averaged concentrations are proportional to the slope wind speeds where the pollutants are emitted, and diminish as the cold-air pool deepens. Pollutants emitted within the ground-based inversion layer are largely trapped there. Pollutants emitted farther up the slopes detrain within the cold-air pool above the ground-based inversion layer, although some fraction, increasing with distance from the top of the slopes, penetrates into the ground-based inversion layer.Peer reviewe
Clouds and aerosols in Puerto Rico ─ a new evaluation
The influence of aerosols, both natural and anthropogenic, remains a major area of uncertainty when predicting the properties and behaviour of clouds and their influence on climate. In an attempt to better understand warm cloud formation in a tropical marine environment, a period of intensive measurements took place in December 2004 in Puerto Rico, using some of the latest developments in online instrumentation such as aerosol mass spectrometers, cloud condensation nuclei counters and a hygroscopicity tandem differential mobility analyser. Simultaneous online measurements of aerosol size distributions, composition, hygroscopicity and optical properties were made near the lighthouse of Cape San Juan in the north-eastern corner of the island and at the top of East Peak mountain (1040 m a.s.l.), the two sites separated by 17 km. Additional measurements of the cloud droplet residual and interstitial aerosol properties were made at the mountain site, accompanied by measurements of cloud droplet size distributions, liquid water content and the chemical composition of cloud and rain water samples. <br><br> Both aerosol composition and cloud properties were found to be sensitive to wind sector. Air from the east-northeast (ENE) was mostly free of anthropogenic influences, the submicron fraction being mainly composed of non-sea salt sulphate, while that from the east-southeast (ESE) was found to be moderately influenced by populated islands upwind, adding smaller (<100 nm), externally mixed, carbonaceous particles to the aerosol that increased the number concentrations by over a factor of 3. This change in composition was also accompanied with a reduction in the measured hygroscopicity and fractional cloud activation potential of the aerosol. At the mountain site, the average cloud droplet concentrations increased from 193 to 519 cm<sup>−3</sup>, median volume diameter decreased from 20 to 14 μm and the liquid water content increased from 0.24 to 0.31 g m<sup>−3</sup> when the winds shifted from the ENE to ESE. Larger numbers of interstitial particles were recorded, most notably at sizes greater than 100 nm, which were absent during clean conditions. The average size of the residual particles and concentrations of cloudwater nitrate, sulphate and insoluble material increased during polluted conditions. <br><br> Previous studies in Puerto Rico had reported the presence of a significant non-anthropogenic organic fraction in the aerosols measured and concluded that this was a factor controlling the in situ cloud properties. However, this was not observed in our case. In contrast to the 1.00±0.14 μg m<sup>−3</sup> of organic carbon measured in 1992 and 1995, the organic matter measured in the current study of 0.17±0.35 μg m<sup>−3</sup> is many times lower, most of which can be attributed to anthropogenic sources. During clean conditions, the submicron aerosol was observed to be almost entirely inorganic, an observation supported by the hygroscopicity measurements. This suggests that organic aerosols from marine sources may not be completely ubiquitous (either spatially or temporally) in this environment and requires further investigation to quantify their true extent and implications, with more extensive, longer-term sampling in conjunction with wind field analyses
An analytical model to evaluate the radiated power spectrum of a multipactor discharge in a parallel-plate region
This paper is aimed at studying the electromagnetic
radiation pattern of a multipactor discharge occurring in a
parallel-plate waveguide. The proposed method is based on the
Fourier expansion of the multipactor current in terms of timeharmonic
currents radiating in the parallel-plate region. Classical
radiation theory combined with the frequency domain Green’s
function of the problem allows the calculation of both the electric
and the magnetic radiated fields. A novel analytical formula for
the total radiated power of each multipactor harmonic has been
derived. This formula is suitable for predicting multipactor with
the third-harmonic technique. The proposed formulation has been
successfully tested with a particle-in-cell code
Electron-phonon renormalization of the absorption edge of the cuprous halides
Compared to most tetrahedral semiconductors, the temperature dependence of
the absorption edges of the cuprous halides (CuCl, CuBr, CuI) is very small.
CuCl and CuBr show a small increase of the gap with increasing
temperature, with a change in the slope of vs. at around 150 K: above
this temperature, the variation of with becomes even smaller. This
unusual behavior has been clarified for CuCl by measurements of the low
temperature gap vs. the isotopic masses of both constituents, yielding an
anomalous negative shift with increasing copper mass. Here we report the
isotope effects of Cu and Br on the gap of CuBr, and that of Cu on the gap of
CuI. The measured isotope effects allow us to understand the corresponding
temperature dependences, which we also report, to our knowledge for the first
time, in the case of CuI. These results enable us to develop a more
quantitative understanding of the phenomena mentioned for the three halides,
and to interpret other anomalies reported for the temperature dependence of the
absorption gap in copper and silver chalcogenides; similarities to the behavior
observed for the copper chalcopyrites are also pointed out.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Health care and societal costs of the management of children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Spain: a descriptive analysis
Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition in
childhood (5.3% to 7.1% worldwide prevalence), with substantial overall financial burden to children/adolescents,
their families, and society. The aims of this study were to describe the clinical characteristics of children and
adolescents with ADHD in Spain, estimate the associated direct/indirect costs of the disorder, and assess whether
the characteristics and financial costs differed between children/adolescents adequately responding to currently
available pharmacotherapies compared with children/adolescents for whom pharmacotherapies failed.
Methods: This was a multicenter, cross-sectional, descriptive analysis conducted in 15 health units representative of
the overall Spanish population. Data on demographic characteristics, socio-occupational status, social relationships,
clinical variables of the disease, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments received were collected
in 321 children and adolescents with ADHD. Direct and indirect costs were estimated over one year from both a
health care system and a societal perspective.
Results: The estimated average cost of ADHD per year per child/adolescent was €5733 in 2012 prices; direct costs
accounted for 60.2% of the total costs (€3450). Support from a psychologist/educational psychologist represented
45.2% of direct costs and 27.2% of total costs. Pharmacotherapy accounted for 25.8% of direct costs and 15.5% of
total costs. Among indirect costs (€2283), 65.2% was due to caregiver expenses. The total annual costs were
significantly higher for children/adolescents who responded poorly to pharmacological treatment (€7654 versus
€5517; P = 0.024), the difference being mainly due to significantly higher direct costs, particularly with larger
expenses for non-pharmacological treatment (P = 0.012).
Conclusions: ADHD has a significant personal, familial, and financial impact on the Spanish health system and
society. Successful pharmacological intervention was associated with lower overall expenses in the management of
the disorde
Oblate collectivity in the yrast structure of 194Pt
A deep inelastic reaction using a 460 MeV 82Se beam incident upon a thick 192Os target was performed at the Legnaro National Laboratory, Italy. The resulting γ-decays were measured using the GASP array. Results for 194Pt extend the known level scheme of the yrast structure from spin I = (12 ħ) to (20 ħ). The irregularities in the sequence of the new transition energies and total Routhian surface calculations show a breakdown in collectivity with an yrast oblate shape remaining to high spin.Rubio Barroso, Berta, [email protected]
Performance study of graphene oxide as an antierosion coating for ornamental and heritage dolostone
9 figures, 2 tables.-- Supplementary information available.Concern for the perpetuation of stone monuments is deeply ingrained in humans; however, despite the attempts made in this field, there is still a great deal of effort needed to bring about advancements in the conservation of ornamental stone. Erosive agents, such as rain, extreme temperatures, and chemical and biological agents, threaten our stone heritage and gradually wear away buildings, sculptures, and other monuments found all around the world. Limestone and dolostone have been widely used throughout history, given their ease of extraction and workability. Nevertheless, these properties make them particularly vulnerable to the aforementioned erosive agents, for which the main solution at present is costly and time-consuming restoration. Given the scarcity of effective and durable agents to prevent the deterioration of ornamental and heritage stones, and as graphene oxide (GO) has recently shown impressive effectiveness for this task, this work will further explore the viability of GO as a protective coating for monumental dolostone. For this purpose, GO is sprayed over dolostone surfaces by water dispersion with no adjuvants. The coating performance is assessed in terms of thermal stress, optical inspection (structured light 3D scanner), colorimetry, leachate analysis, and electron microscopy.
