Dimensiones virtuales de la ciudad: apropiación urbana mediada por el uso de la aplicación digital Pokémon GO
El presente artículo se deriva del proyecto macro del Grupo de Investigación Xisqua: “Nociones del territorio: ciudad, mapa e imaginario”. El estudio que presenta es una reflexión acerca de las dimensiones virtuales de la ciudad como una oportunidad para el análisis de las relaciones urbanas que se gestan en el uso de aplicaciones móviles y la comprensión de la apropiación del territorio.
En este caso, se tomó como objeto de estudio a los usuarios de la aplicación Pokémon GO en la que se detecta la oportunidad de analizar la interacción espacial entre la realidad y la virtualidad en el contexto urbano.
El desarrollo del proyecto se plantea como un acercamiento piloto en el que se realizó un ejercicio de indagación a partir de técnicas como la observación participante y de instrumentos como la aplicación de encuestas a los usuarios del juego. Este acercamiento al tema, supone la posibilidad de establecer una nueva perspectiva para el abordaje del territorio y de las nociones que se gestan entre la interacción del ciudadano y el entorno urbano desde escenarios virtuales
Micro-injection Moulding of Polymer Locking Ligation Systems
AbstractIn recent years, there has been an increment on micro-components for medical purposes, diseases treatment and surgical equipment, requiring biocompatible materials such as some engineering polymers. Nonetheless, the micro size of these parts impose challenges for fabrication using high production processes, like polymer injection moulding submitted to high cooling rates and variability of the process, in addition to the complex design of precise mould micro-cavities. This paper presents the development of a complete mould for a polymer locking ligation system fabrication, a medical device selected as a case study for micro-injection moulding tooling. This development includes the prediction of appropriate injection parameters and process conditions using computer simulations and a comparison with real values of pressure and temperature during the process, due to data acquisition with piezoelectric sensors. The results show a moderate error between experimental and simulated results, in terms of pressure (0.05% prediction error) and average cycle temperature at the sensor location (13% prediction error), which proves that the proposed approach can be used for precision micro-injection moulding applications
CICLO REPRODUCTOR DE SCELOPORUS POINSETTII BAIRD Y GIRARD 1852 (SQUAMATA: PHRYNOSOMATIDAE) EN EL CENTRO DEL DESIERTO CHIHUAHUENSE, MÉXICO
The reproductive cycle of a population of the viviparous lizard Sceloporus poinsettii Baird y Girard 1852 was determined using data obtained from field caught individuals at the Biosphere Reserve of Mapimí, Durango, México. Between 1993 and 1994 monthly samples of this species were collected from rocky hills. Females begin vitellogenesis in late summer, culminating in ovulation during December. Females are pregnant throughout the winter months with birth during spring in May or early June. Average clutch size is 6.3 young. Neonatos of both sexes are born early in summer. Males exhibit testicular recrudescence during late summer and maximal Testicular/Somatic Index occur during fall in October and November. This study adds to the data that indicate that fall reproductive activity is the common reproductive strategy among viviparous lizards of the genus Sceloporus.Se determinó el ciclo reproductor de una población de la lagartija vivípara Sceloporus poinsettii Baird y Girard 1852 utilizando datos obtenidos de individuos capturados en el campo en la Reserva de Biosfera de Mapimí, México. Entre 1993 y 1994 fueron colectadas muestras mensuales de esta especie de cerros rocosos. Las hembras comenzaron la vitelogénesis en el verano tardío, culminando la ovulación durante diciembre. Las hembras están preñadas a través de los meses del invierno y paren durante la primavera en mayo o al principio de junio. La media del tamaño de camada fue de 6.3 crías. Los neonatos de ambos sexos se encuentran nacidos al principio del verano. Los machos exhiben la reactivación testicular durante el final del verano y el máximo Índice Somático/Testicular ocurre durante el otoño en octubre y noviembre. Este estudio se suma a los datos que indican que la actividad reproductora en otoño es la estrategia reproductora común entre las lagartijas vivíparas del género Sceloporus
Design Concepts of Polycarbonate-Based Intervertebral Lumbar Cages: Finite Element Analysis and Compression Testing
This work explores the viability of 3D printed intervertebral lumbar cages based on biocompatible polycarbonate (PC-ISO® material). Several design concepts are proposed for the generation of patient-specific intervertebral lumbar cages. The 3D printed material achieved compressive yield strength of 55 MPa under a specific combination of manufacturing parameters. The literature recommends a reference load of 4,000 N for design of intervertebral lumbar cages. Under compression testing conditions, the proposed design concepts withstand between 7,500 and 10,000 N of load before showing yielding. Although some stress concentration regions were found during analysis, the overall viability of the proposed design concepts was validated
Lethal iron deprivation induced by non-neutralizing antibodies targeting transferrin receptor 1 in malignant B cells
A number of antibodies have been developed that induce lethal iron deprivation (LID) by targeting the transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1/CD71) and either neutralizing transferrin (Tf) binding, blocking internalization of the receptor and/or inducing its degradation. We have developed recombinant antibodies targeting human TfR1 (ch128.1 and ch128.1Av), which induce receptor degradation and are cytotoxic to certain malignant B-cells. We now show that internalization of TfR1 bound to these antibodies can lead to its sequestration and degradation, as well as reduced Tf uptake, and the induction of a transcriptional response consistent with iron deprivation, which is mediated in part by downstream targets of p53. Cells resistant to these antibodies do not sequester and degrade TfR1 after internalization of the antibody/receptor complex, and accordingly maintain their ability to internalize Tf. These findings are expected to facilitate the rational design and clinical use of therapeutic agents targeting iron import via TfR1 in hematopoietic malignancies.Fil: Rodríguez, José A.. The Quaternary Active Faults Database of Iberia (QAFI v.2.0)
The Quaternary Active Faults Database of Iberia (QAFI) is an initiative lead by the Institute of Geology and Mines of Spain (IGME) for building a public repository of scientific data regarding faults having documented activity during the last 2.59 Ma (Quaternary). QAFI also addresses a need to transfer geologic knowledge to practitioners of seismic hazard and risk in Iberia by identifying and characterizing seismogenic fault-sources. QAFI is populated by the information freely provided by more than 40 Earth science researchers, storing to date a total of 262 records. In this article we describe the development and evolution of the database, as well as its internal architecture. Aditionally, a first global analysis of the data is provided with a special focus on length and slip-rate fault parameters. Finally, the database completeness and the internal consistency of the data are discussed. Even though QAFI v.2.0 is the most current resource for calculating fault-related seismic hazard in Iberia, the database is still incomplete and requires further review

We still have in our mind catastrophic episodes, such as the giant events of the Sumatra earthquake and tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean of magnitude (Mw) 8.7, and the Tohoku-Oki earthquake and tsunami in 2011 in the northwest of Japan, of magnitude (Mw) 9.0-9.1. Nevertheless, seismic events of moderate to large magnitude (Mw 6-7.3) in areas of low to moderate tectonic deformation, and with long recurrence intervals, such as the Alboran Sea in the Western Mediterranean, might also have a significant effect. Accordingly, during the last decades there has been an expansion of paleoseismology to marine areas, both on-fault and off-fault investigations (Pantosti et al., 2011; Perea et al., 2021a). Development of a framework for fire risk assessment using remote sensing and geographic information system technologies
Forest fires play a critical role in landscape transformation, vegetation succession, soil degradation and air quality. Improvements in fire risk estimation are vital to reduce the negative impacts of fire, either by lessen burn severity or intensity through fuel management, or by aiding the natural vegetation recovery using post-fire treatments. This paper presents the methods to generate the input variables and the risk integration developed within the Firemap project (funded under the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology) to map wildland fire risk for several regions of Spain. After defining the conceptual scheme for fire risk assessment, the paper describes the methods used to generate the risk parameters, and presents proposals for their integration into synthetic risk indices. The generation of the input variables was based on an extensive use of geographic information system and remote sensing technologies, since the project was intended to provide a spatial and temporal assessment of risk conditions. All variables were mapped at 1 km2 spatial resolution, and were integrated into a web-mapping service system. This service was active in the summer of 2007 for semi-operational testing of end-users. Borrelia burgdorferi infection induces long-term memory-like responses in macrophages with tissue-wide consequences in the heart
Lyme carditis is an extracutaneous manifestation of Lyme disease characterized by episodes of atrioventricular block of varying degrees and additional, less reported cardiomyopathies. The molecular changes associated with the response to Borrelia burgdorferi over the course of infection are poorly understood. Here, we identify broad transcriptomic and proteomic changes in the heart during infection that reveal a profound down-regulation of mitochondrial components. We also describe the long-term functional modulation of macrophages exposed to live bacteria, characterized by an augmented glycolytic output, increased spirochetal binding and internalization, and reduced inflammatory responses. In vitro, glycolysis inhibition reduces the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) by memory macrophages, whereas in vivo, it produces the reversion of the memory phenotype, the recovery of tissue mitochondrial components, and decreased inflammation and spirochetal burdens.
