Design strategies applied to thermal comfort for transport terminals in hot humid climates. Case of Valledupar, Colombia
desplazamientos de la población, reducción en biodiversidad, entre otros;
impactos a futuroValledupar is one of the hottest cities in the country where there are short, torrid and
dry periods, others longer with a high percentage of humidity, which increases the
thermal experience of the inhabitant. Health can be affected by these climatic
conditions, movements or displacements of the population, reduction in biodiversity,
among others; also impacting socioeconomic activities, which would require local,
social and technological adaptation. The objective of this investigative work is to
apply design strategies, focused on thermal comfort in an inter-municipal transport
terminal. The methodology is divided into four stages: 1. Carry out an analysis of the
climate of the city of Valledupar. 2. Determine comfort zones, through the use of
rainwater, natural ventilation and vegetation, and the application of the Givoni
bioclimatic chart and psychometric chart. 3. Evaluate the course of the sun and use
of shadows. 4. Analyze possible design strategies. The results reveal that the critical
months are from April to November, with high temperatures and a high percentage
of humidity, the need for cooling by natural and mechanical ventilation, air
conditioning, solar protection, conventional dehumidification and cooling by high
thermal mass with night renewal. The free passage of natural ventilation is
recommended to reduce humidity and the use of vegetation both in the space and
on the façade. Adapt to the affected population, faced with high temperatures,
mitigating future impact
