Successful Organizational Transformation: The Five Critical Elements

    No full text
One subject that is receiving a lot of attention is organizational change. Whether it is reinventing government, reengineering corporations, or reforming churches, all kinds of organizations are attempting major transformations. The pace of organizational change projects is perhaps only overshadowed by the number of books on the subject of organizational change. One only has to scan the business section of any local bookstore to see that there are numerous titles on the subject of organizational change. While each book may be interesting, the books often do not build on each other and sometimes develop contradictory ideas and concepts

The subject of organizational change is receiving increasing attention. Whether it is re-inventing government, re-engineering corporations, or reforming churches, all kinds of organizations are attempting major transformations. This book will "walk" you through our framework of the five ingredients of transformation: Burning Platform, why should you do anything; Vision, where are you going; Leadership, are you leading the effort, and do you have the skills necessary to lead; Technical Plan, how will you close the gap between the vision and the burning platform; Social Plan, how will you enroll others in the plan. At the end of reading this book, you will understand why change efforts fail, what ingredients are needed to ensure success, and what skills are needed at the organizational, group, and individual level to maximize improvement efforts

Formalizing Deployment Processes In The Us Government

    No full text
The linkage between strategic planning and daily activities within an organization is often obscure. Perhaps as a consequence, many well-developed strategic plans fail to be implemented, and required goals and objectives are not attained. Strategy deployment processes link strategic plans with implementation activities. Instead of investing more time and energy in improving planning or implementation processes, an organization should first examine the deployment processes used to link strategic plans with action – “deployment processes” may be the missing link in the strategic management system. This paper studies the application of formal strategy deployment processes within three US federal agencies. The strategic management literature provides the basis for the deployment processes analyzed in this study. Following the analysis of each individual case, an overall assessment of existing supporting and restraining forces that should be considered when working to improve deployment processes is discussed. © 2001, MCB UP Limite
