Fluorescent polyacrylate derivate from 4-biphenylmethanol with UV-green emission

In this paper we report the synthesis of a new polyacrylate named poly(1,1ʹ-BP4MA) which is a derivate from 4-biphenylmethanol monomer. Poly(1,1ʹ-BP4MA) was obtained by solution and bulk polymerization techniques to yield polymers with high molecular weight and high solubility. The study of the optical properties showed that poly(1,1ʹ-BP4MA) is a fluorescent material with emission in the UV-green region and it has similar quantum yield to tryptophan

Thermodynamic analysis of the influence of potassium on the thermal behavior of kaolin raw material

The mineralogy and thermal properties of two kaolin clay samples from Agua Blanca (Hidalgo-México) were determined by XRD, SEM-EDS, TGA-DSC techniques. Kaolin clay A contains a higher Al2O3Al_2O_3 and lower impurities (K2O,TiO2,Fe2O3)(K_2O, TiO_2, Fe_2O_3) amount than kaolin clay B, while the SiO2 amount is similar for both kaolin clays. A theoretical approach was carried out by a thermodynamic analysis considering the chemical composition of both kaolin clay samples with the FactSage 7.3 software. Stability phase diagrams were obtained to different K2O content from 0.1 to 3 wt % and temperatures in the range from 600 to 1600°C based on the chemical composition of the kaolin clay samples. The main mineralogical compounds predicted are andalusite (Al2O3SiO2)(Al_2O_3•SiO_2), K-Potash feldspar (K2OAl2O36SiO2)(K_2O•Al_2O_3•6SiO_2), and the SiO2SiO_2 polymorphs (quartz, tridymite, and cristobalite) with small amounts of ferric-pseudobrookite (Fe2O5Ti)(Fe_2O_5Ti), and rutile (TiO2)(TiO_2). As K2OK_2O content is increased, the amounts of mullite and tridymite decrease meanwhile the potash feld spar is increased at high temperatures. A liquid phase is formed at around 1350 and 1400°C for the kaolin clay samples A and B, respectively. The viscosity of the melt is increased for the evaluated K2OK_2O additions to 1400, 1500, and 1600°C

Search for supersymmetry with photons in pp collisions at s\sqrt s = 8 TeV

Two searches for physics beyond the standard model in events containing photons are presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The analyses pursue different inclusive search strategies. One analysis requires at least one photon, at least two jets, and a large amount of transverse momentum imbalance, while the other selects events with at least two photons and at least one jet, and uses the razor variables to search for signal events. The background expected from standard model processes is evaluated mainly from data. The results are interpreted in the context of general gauge-mediated supersymmetry, with the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle either a bino- or wino-like neutralino, and within simplified model scenarios. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are obtained for cross sections as functions of the masses of the intermediate supersymmetric particles
