Memory Management Strategies for an Internet of Things System

The rise of the Internet has brought about significant changes in our lives, and the rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) is poised to have an even more substantial impact by connecting a wide range of devices across various application domains. IoT devices, especially low-end ones, are constrained by limited memory and processing capabilities, necessitating efficient memory management within IoT operating systems. This paper delves into the importance of memory management in IoT systems, with a primary focus on the design and configuration of such systems, as well as the scalability and performance of scene management. Effective memory management is critical for optimizing resource usage, responsiveness, and adaptability as the IoT ecosystem continues to grow. Trascendencia de la formación ética pública en la Licenciatura Ciencias Políticas y Administración Pública

Colocar a la ética en el campo subjetivo la aleja del campo de las profesiones; es oportuno regresarla debido a la crisis sistémica sociocultural, político-económica y ecológica que obliga a re-pensarla. El objetivo es analizar la importancia de la formación ética para el ejercicio de una ética pública a través de los Programas de Estudio de la Licenciatura Ciencias Políticas y Administración Públicas y afines. Metodología: investigación documental de la web de las Instituciones Autónomas de Educación Superior de México. Las instituciones consultadas en su perfil de egreso incluyen la formación actitudinal que permita al egresado prosperar en la búsqueda exitosa de actividades comprometidas con el otro. De 27 programas educativos revisados, 17 ofrecen al menos un curso obligatorio relacionado a la reflexión ética, cinco la ofertan con carácter optativo. Un programa lo excluye. En cuatro de ellas no se logró obtener información. Persisten grandes retos para las Instituciones de Educación Superior en cuestión formativa

Time-varying effects when analysing customer lifetime duration, application to the insurance market

The Cox model (Cox, 1972) is widely used in customer lifetime duration research, but it assumes that the regression coefficients are time invariant. In order to analyse the temporal covariate effects on the duration times, we propose to use an extended version of the Cox model where the parameters are allowed to vary over time. We apply this methodology to real insurance policy cancellation data and we conclude that the kind of contracts held by the customer and the concurrence of an external insurer in the cancellation influence the risk of the customer leaving the company, but the effect differs as time goes by.Cox model, customer lifetime.

Resíduos de aflatoxina B1 em fígado de codornas japonesas (Coturnix japonica) expostas a alimentos contaminados e à corticosterona exógena

The combined effect of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1 ) exposition and stress induced by corticosterone (CORT) upon the residual aflatoxin levels in livers of Japanese quail was examined. A total of 144 Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) were divided into 6 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment, each containing 2 males and 2 females. The different treatments resulted from the combination of the presence or absence of CORT in drinking water (5 mg/L) with the presence or absence of AFB1 supplementation (100 or 500 ng/g). Dietary treatments were offered from 5 to 11 weeks of age. The different diets were: Treatment (T) 1: basal diet (B) AFB1 (15 ng/g); T2: B plus AFB1 (100 ng/g); T3: B plus AFB1 (500 ng/g); T4: B plus CORT (5 mg/L); T5: B plus AFB1 (100 ng/g) and CORT (5 mg/L); and T6: B plus AFB1 (500 ng/g) and CORT (5 mg/L). The residual levels of AFB1 were remarkably higher in livers of birds fed with AFB1 in comparison with those belonging to the group that received a combination of AFB1 and CORT (P< 0.05). A plausible explanation about the facts that could be responsible for observed reduction in the toxin carryover in liver was suggested. These results are very striking and may constitute the start point for a series of studies that aim to elucidate the precise influence of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) response to stress in birds exposed to AFB.Estudou-se o efeito combinado da exposição à aflatoxina B1 (AFB1 ) e o estresse induzido por corticosterona (CORT) sobre os níveis de residuais de AFB1 em fígados de codornas japonesas. Um total de 144 codornas japonesas (Coturnix japonica) foram divididas em 6 tratamentos com 6 repetições por tratamento, cada uma contendo 2 machos e 2 fêmeas. As dietas dos tratamentos foram oferecidas da 5ª até a 11ª semana de idade. Os diferentes tratamentos resultaram da combinação da presença ou ausência de CORT na água de beber (5 mg / L), com a presença ou ausência de suplementação AFB1 (100 ou 500 ng /g) As dietas diferentes foram: Tratamento (T) 1: dieta basal (B) AFB1 (15 ng/g); T2: B mais AFB1 (100 ng / g); T3: B mais AFB1 (500 ng / g); T4: B mais CORT (5 mg / L); T5: B mais AFB1 (100 ng / g) e CORT (5 mg / L), e T6: B mais AFB1 (500 ng / g) e CORT (5 mg / L). Os níveis residuais de AFB1 foram significativamente mais elevados em fígados de aves alimentadas com AFB1 em comparação com os que pertencem ao grupo que recebeu uma combinação de AFB1 e CORT (P< 0,05). Sugere-se uma possível explicação para a redução dos níveis da toxina observada naqueles animais submetidos a dieta com CORT. Learning contract, co-operative and flipped learning as useful tools for studying metabolism

Es el Abstract de una comunicación a un congreso internacional sobre educaciónUndergraduate students in Biology identify Metabolic Biochemistry as a particularly difficult subject. This is due to the fact that students need to interconnect properly all the contents of its syllabus throughout their study of the subject in order to get a global insight of the complex regulatory features controlling metabolic pathways within the metabolic network under different physiologic and pathologic conditions, as well as metabolism as a whole. Due to these objective difficulties, a high percentage of our students face the study of this subject as a very hard task beyond their forces and capacities. This perception leads to high rates of premature dropout. In previous years, less than 40% of all the registered students attended the examinations of Metabolic Biochemistry (a subject in the second year of the Degree of Biology at our University). Even worse, less than 25% of our students passed the exams. From the academic year 2015/16 on, we are developing innovative teaching projects (PIE15-163 and PIE17-145, funded by University of Malaga) aimed to increase our student loyalty to the subject (and hence to increase their attendance to exams) and to help them to learn more effectively metabolism and its regulation. These innovative teaching projects are based on the use of several powerful tools: a learning contract and problem-based learning within the framework of group tasks promoting an actual collaborative learning in a flipped classroom. A educação inclusiva é um termo comummente usado para referir o esforço de transformação que escolas e professores têm que fazer para que as diferenças em termos de capacidades motoras, relacionais e/ou cognitivas não sejam penalizadas. A questão da igualdade de género tem muitos pontos em comum, tratando-se de promover a igualdade de direitos que corresponde a uma cidadania plena, uma aspiração de todas as sociedades democráticas. Sendo a escola o lugar por onde passam todas as crianças e jovens, não se lhe pode deixar de atribuir responsabilidades na formação global do ser humano, no que ele é ou virá a ser, nas suas relações consigo e com os outros. A escola não pode fazer tudo, mas não poderá demitir-se de algumas das responsabilidades inerentes à construção de representações e comportamentos associados ao género. Tudo na escola está impregnado de ideias sobre o género, frequentemente assentes em estereótipos. Com o apoio da Comissão para a Cidadania e Igualdade de Género (CIG) e com o acolhimento da Câmara Municipal do Seixal, a Escola Superior de Educação de Setúbal tem vindo a desenvolver processos de formação de professores/as dos vários níveis de ensino, procurando sensibilizá-los/as para colocarem as lentes de género na sua acção comum enquanto docentes. Acresce a isso o facto de poderem usar os conteúdos da sua própria disciplina em matéria de educação de género. Dando conta de um conjunto de realizações em sala de aula, pretendemos mostrar que esse trabalho é, afinal, possível.Inclusive education is a term commonly used to refer the effort that schools and teachers have to do to ensure that difference in terms of motor, relational and/or cognitive abilities are not penalized and penalizing. The issue of gender equality has many points in common, as it intends to promote equal rights corresponding to full citizenship, an aspiration of every democratic society. Being the school the place where all children and young people attend, it can't fail to assign responsibilities in the global formation of the human being, in their relationships with themselves and others. Schools can't do everything, but they can't resign from some of the responsibilities inherent in the construction of representations and behaviors associated with gender. In schools everything is steeped in ideas about gender, often based on stereotypes. With the support of the Comissão para a Cidadania e Igualdade de Género (CIG) and the host of Câmara Municipal do Seixal, the Escola Superior de Educação/ Setúbal has developed teacher training courses for various education levels, aiming to sensitize teachers to put "gender lens" in their joint actions. A segurança alimentar no Brasil: proposição e usos da escala brasileira de medida da insegurança alimentar (EBIA) de 2003 a 2009

Mesmo com os avanços observados na diminuição das desigualdades sociais no Brasil, ainda é grande o contingente de pessoas que vivem em situação de insegurança alimentar. Este trabalho descreve os resultados do uso da Escala Brasileira de Medida da Insegurança Alimentar a partir do seu processo de validação até os inquéritos de abrangência nacional, sua utilização por gestores municipais e, também, para produção acadêmica em diversas universidades. Por fim aponta a relevância da EBIA, como um instrumento auxiliar das políticas públicas de combate à fome no Brasil. Esse trabalho descreve o uso de métodos mistos de investigação, para a validação da EBIA, métodos qualitativos (painéis de especialistas e grupos focais) e quantitativos (inquéritos amostrais de população), em estudo multicêntrico, que envolveu quatro regiões do país, áreas rurais e urbanas e 6 instituições de pesquisa, 5 nacionais e uma norte americana. O principal resultado deste trabalho foi conseguir disponibilizar para os gestores públicos uma ferramenta, a Escala Brasileira de Medida da Insegurança Alimentar e Fome no Brasil – EBIA. Isto possibilitou a realização do primeiro diagnóstico nacional de acesso à alimentação em termos de qualidade e quantidade, bem como, mostrou a existência, em 2004 de 14 milhões de brasileiros que conviveram com a fome nos 3 meses que antecederam as entrevistas da PNAD 2004. Análise complementar dos dados da PNAD 2004, sobre o impacto na população de beneficiários dos programas de transferência de renda apontou que a cada 10 Reais transferidos havia um aumento de 8 % de chance, do domicílio, passar da situação de insegurança alimentar para a de segurança. O processo de investigação que culminou com o desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta (EBIA) para diagnóstico da situação de segurança e insegurança alimentar no domicílio ultrapassou os interesses exclusivamente acadêmicos. Essa experiência constitui exemplo de parceria bem sucedida entre a academia e as instituições públicas do país. Augmented Reality-Applied Informatics Technology to Products Maintenance, Repair and Servicing

Augmented Reality (AR) enhances a user's perception of the real world by enhancing it with specific objects that are over-imposed to the real objects. The virtual objects display information that the user may use. The information conveyed by the virtual objects helps a user perform real-world tasks. An augmented reality application is the assembly, maintenance, and repair of complex machinery or common goods. Instructions might be easier to understand if they were available, not as manuals with text and pictures, but rather as 3-D drawings superimposed upon the actual equipment, showing step-by-step the tasks that need to be done and how to do them. These superimposed 3-D drawings can be animated, making the directions even more explicit. This paper describes a proof-of-concept AR application to be used for office printer service operation
