Mobilier funéraire et classe d’âge dans les cités grecques d’Égée orientale à l’époque archaïque
The aim of the present contribution is to investigate the assemblages of grave-goods found in child-burials in the poleis of Eastern Greece during the archaic period. It is argued that the selection of objects placed with dead children does not fundamentally differ in quality and quantity from that found in adult graves. Moreover, grave-goods are only one of the many criteria used to express age differentiation within the burial population. Only in specific periods and places can some objects, mainly terracottas, be seen as indicative of a new wish to express age ritual in burial language; this can be interpreted as a probable consequence of the preeminent role played by age classes in the social structure of late archaic city-states
VHE observations of the gamma-ray binary system LS 5039 with H.E.S.S
LS 5039 is a gamma-ray binary system observed in a broad energy range, from
radio to TeV energies. The binary system exhibits both flux and spectral
modulation as a function of its orbital period. The X-ray and very-high-energy
(VHE, E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray fluxes display a maximum/minimum at
inferior/superior conjunction, with spectra becoming respectively
harder/softer, a behaviour that is completely reversed in the high-energy
domain (HE, 0.1 < E < 100 GeV). The HE spectrum cuts off at a few GeV, with a
new hard component emerging at E > 10 GeV that is compatible with the
low-energy tail of the TeV emission. The low 10 - 100 GeV flux, however, makes
the HE and VHE components difficult to reconcile with a scenario including
emission from only a single particle population. We report on new observations
of LS 5039 conducted with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.)
telescopes from 2006 to 2015. This new data set enables for an
unprecedentedly-deep phase-folded coverage of the source at TeV energies, as
well as an extension of the VHE spectral range down to ~120 GeV, which makes LS
5039 the first gamma-ray binary system in which a spectral overlap between
satellite and ground-based gamma-ray observatories is obtained.Comment: Proceeding for ICRC 201
Optimal Design and Operation of Distributed Low-Carbon Energy Technologies in Commercial Buildings
Commercial buildings are large energy consumers and opportunities exist to improve the way they produce and consume electricity, heating and cooling. If energy system integration is feasible, this can lead to significant reductions in energy consumption and emissions. In this context, this work expands on an existing integrated Technology Selection and Operation (TSO) optimisation model for distributed energy systems (DES). The model considers combined heat and power (CHP) and organic Rankine cycle (ORC) engines, absorption chillers, photovoltaic panels and batteries with the aim of guiding decision makers in making attractive investments that are technically feasible and environmentally sound. A retrofit case study of a UK food distribution centre is presented to showcase the benefits and trade-offs that integrated energy systems present by contrasting outcomes when different technologies are considered. Results show that the preferred investment options select a CHP coupled either to an ORC unit or to an absorption chiller. These solutions provide appealing internal rates of return of 28–30% with paybacks within 3.5–3.7 years, while also decarbonising the building by 95–96% (if green gas is used to power the site). Overall, the TSO model provides valuable insights allowing stakeholders to make well-informed decisions when evaluating complex integrated energy systems
Gobernabilidad metropolitana: una revisión a los a los convenios de coordinación metropolitana y la oportunidad para la instalación de un gobierno metropolitano en Guadalajara
El proceso de metropolización de Guadalajara involucra tres generaciones de evolución institucional y configuración de políticas que sirvan a la gestión pública integral del área metropolitana de Guadalajara, a través de la integración de las unidades administrativas municipales y a la del estado de Jalisco en un nivel híbrido de gobierno entre ambos. El nivel metropolitano que corresponde articular en esta ciudad obedece a la reconstrucción del proceso, documentando e interpretando convenios y un gran acuerdo político-administrativo que han generado instancias de coordinación en tres áreas estratégicas: gobernabilidad, desarrollo urbano y seguridad. También, insertando un marco conceptual en torno a la administración de las metrópolis, se presenta una argumentación tendiente a justificar y recomendar la oportunidad para la instalación de un gobierno metropolitano para la ciudad de Guadalajara
Collagen α5 and α2(IV) chain coexpression: Analysis of skin biopsies of Alport patients
Alport syndrome is a collagen type IV disease caused by mutations in the COL4A5 gene with the X-linked form being most prevalent. The resultant α5(IV) collagen chain is a component of the glomerular and skin basement membranes (SBMs). Immunofluorescent determination of the α5(IV) chain in skin biopsies is the procedure of choice to identify patients. In 30% of patients, however, the mutant protein is still found in the SBM resulting in a normal staining pattern. In order to minimize or eliminate false results, we compared the distribution of the α2(IV) chain (another SBM component) and the α5(IV) chain by standard double label immunofluorescence (IF) and by confocal laser scanning microcopy. The study was performed on 55 skin biopsies of patients suspected of Alports and five normal control specimens. In normal skin, IF showed the classical linear pattern for both collagens along the basement membrane. Additionally, decreased α5(IV) was found in the bottom of the dermal papillary basement membrane. Confocal analysis confirmed the results and show α5(IV) focal interruptions. In suspected patients, both techniques showed the same rate of abnormal α5(IV) expression: segmental in women and absent in men. Our results show a physiological variation of α5(IV) location with focal interruptions and decreased expression in the bottom of the dermal basement membrane. Comparison of α5(IV) with α2(IV) expression is simple and eliminates technical artifacts
H.E.S.S. observations of PSR B1259-63 during its 2014 periastron passage
An extended observation campaign of the gamma-ray binary system PSR
B125963 has been conducted with the H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic
System) II 5-telescope array during the system's periastron passage in 2014. We
report on the outcome of this campaign, which consists of more than 85 h of
data covering both pre- and post-periastron orbital phases. The lower energy
threshold of the H.E.S.S. II array allows very-high-energy (VHE; GeV) gamma-ray emission from PSR B125963 to be studied for the first
time down to 200 GeV. The new dataset partly overlaps with and extends in phase
previous H.E.S.S. campaigns on this source in 2004, 2007 and 2011, allowing for
a detailed long-term characterisation of the flux level at VHEs. In addition,
the 2014 campaign reported here includes VHE observations during the exact
periastron time, , as well as data taken simultaneously to the
gamma-ray flare detected with the Fermi-LAT. Our results will be discussed in a
multiwavelength context, thanks to the dense broad-band monitoring campaign

International audienceIn 2010 the Mimar Sinan University of Istanbul started a research project on the Ionian town of Colophon which is conducted in close collaboration with the University of Vienna [1]. It aims at the exploration of the ancient urban area as well as on the distribution of the necropoleis. For the campaign of the year 2013 the Austrian research team concentrated on the following topics [2]. 1. Survey in the area of the ancient city This year, the main focus of the investigations in the area within the fortification walls was laid on the exploration of the urbanistic organisation of the city by magnetic survey and by ground penetrating radar. For this purpose two areas were chosen. The first area consisted of fields in the plain between the brooks Kabaklidere and Kurudere in the north eastern quarters of the ancient city. Here the existence of houses has been proven by excavations by the museum of Izmir about 10–15 years ago. The remains of walls were also visible in several trenches opened by illegal diggers both on the plains and in the forested area near the slopes of the surrounding hills. The geophysical prospection confirmed the assumed existence of several buildings and streets in the area. In addition we conducted an extensive survey in adjacent fields and collected pottery from the holes dug by illegal diggers. The finds included roof tiles and a small amount of pottery with a chronological range from the 6 th to the 4 th c. BC. A detailed documentation of the present land-use and land-division of this area, already begun in 2012, was continued with the aim of a diachronical understanding of the landscape's historical development. This included the description of modern features in the fields as well as interviews with owners and tenants. The second area chosen for a geophysical prospection is situated to the south of the Halil Ağa Tepesi, where W. Höpfner proposed to locate the ancient agora [3]. Both magnetic survey and ground penetrating radar prospections were carried out here. Further examination of the data is currently being carried out.
