Statistics of the fractional polarisation of extragalactic dusty sources in Planck HFI maps
We estimate the average fractional polarisation at 143, 217 and 353 GHz of a
sample of 4697 extragalactic dusty sources by applying stacking technique. The
sample is selected from the second version of the Planck Catalogue of Compact
Sources at 857 GHz, avoiding the region inside the Planck Galactic mask (fsky ~
60 per cent). We recover values for the mean fractional polarisation at 217 and
353 GHz of (3.10 \pm 0.75) per cent and (3.65 \pm 0.66) per cent, respectively,
whereas at 143 GHz we give a tentative value of (3.52 \pm 2.48) per cent. We
discuss the possible origin of the measured polarisation, comparing our new
estimates with those previously obtained from a sample of radio sources. We
test different distribution functions and we conclude that the fractional
polarisation of dusty sources is well described by a log-normal distribution,
as determined in the radio band studies. For this distribution we estimate
{\mu}_{217GHz} = 0.3 \pm 0.5 (that would correspond to a median fractional
polarisation of {\Pi}_{med} = (1.3 \pm 0.7) per cent) and {\mu}_{353GHz} = 0.7
\pm 0.4 ({\Pi}_{med} = (2.0 \pm 0.8) per cent), {\sigma}_{217GHz} = 1.3 \pm 0.2
and {\sigma}_{353GHz} = 1.1 \pm 0.2. With these values we estimate the source
number counts in polarisation and the contribution given by these sources to
the CMB B-mode angular power spectrum at 217, 353, 600 and 800 GHz. We conclude
that extragalactic dusty sources might be an important contaminant for the

Coherence in parametric fluorescence
We investigate spontaneous four wave mixing (SFWM) in a single-channel
side-coupled integrated spaced sequence of resonators (SCISSOR). Analytic
expressions for the number of photon pairs generated, as well as the biphoton
wave function (joint spectral amplitude) describing the pairs, are derived and
numerically computed for different pump pulse durations and numbers of ring
resonators. In the limit of a long input pump pulse, we show a strong analogy
between super-linear scaling of generation efficiency with respect to the
number of rings in the structure and Dicke superradiance. More generally, we
discuss in detail the factors that influence the shape of the biphoton wave
function, as well as the conditions for observing super-SFWM
Complex networks in brain electrical activity
We analyze the complex networks associated with brain electrical activity.
Multichannel EEG measurements are first processed to obtain 3D voxel
activations using the tomographic algorithm LORETA. Then, the correlation of
the current intensity activation between voxel pairs is computed to produce a
voxel cross-correlation coefficient matrix. Using several correlation
thresholds, the cross-correlation matrix is then transformed into a network
connectivity matrix and analyzed. To study a specific example, we selected data
from an earlier experiment focusing on the MMN brain wave. The resulting
analysis highlights significant differences between the spatial activations
associated with Standard and Deviant tones, with interesting physiological
implications. When compared to random data networks, physiological networks are
more connected, with longer links and shorter path lengths. Furthermore, as
compared to the Deviant case, Standard data networks are more connected, with
longer links and shorter path lengths--i.e., with a stronger ``small worlds''
character. The comparison between both networks shows that areas known to be
activated in the MMN wave are connected. In particular, the analysis supports
the idea that supra-temporal and inferior frontal data work together in the
processing of the differences between sounds by highlighting an increased

Polynomial growth of volume of balls for zero-entropy geodesic systems
The aim of this paper is to state and prove polynomial analogues of the
classical Manning inequality relating the topological entropy of a geodesic
flow with the growth rate of the volume of balls in the universal covering. To
this aim we use two numerical conjugacy invariants, the {\em strong polynomial
entropy } and the {\em weak polynomial entropy }. Both are
infinite when the topological entropy is positive and they satisfy
. We first prove that the growth rate of the volume of
balls is bounded above by means of the strong polynomial entropy and we show
that for the flat torus this inequality becomes an equality. We then study the
explicit example of the torus of revolution for which we can give an exact
asymptotic equivalent of the growth rate of volume of balls, which we relate to

Fermi Gases in Slowly Rotating Traps: Superfluid vs Collisional Hydrodynamics
The dynamic behavior of a Fermi gas confined in a deformed trap rotating at
low angular velocity is investigated in the framework of hydrodynamic theory.
The differences exhibited by a normal gas in the collisional regime and a
superfluid are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the collective
oscillations excited when the deformation of the rotating trap is suddenly
removed or when the rotation is suddenly stopped. The presence of vorticity in
the normal phase is shown to give rise to precession and beating phenomena

Ionization fronts in negative corona discharges
In this paper we use a hydrodynamic minimal streamer model to study negative
corona discharge. By reformulating the model in terms of a quantity called
shielding factor, we deduce laws for the evolution in time of both the radius
and the intensity of ionization fronts. We also compute the evolution of the
front thickness under the conditions for which it diffuses due to the geometry
