    Get PDF

The study aims to map the human capital profile involved with the biotechnology in Brazil. We used descriptive statistical analysis. The database was set up exclusively for this study starting from information of the innovation website of the Brazilian Ministry of the Science and Technology. The investigation demonstrated the increment of number of research groups in the last years. This fact results of the efforts undertaken by a series of agents, especially the federal government. Besides, the data indicate that the researchers mainly concentrate on the South and Southeast regions of the country, with significant participation of agrarian, biological and health sciences

    Get PDF
ABSTRACTSmall sized enterprises have an important participation in Brazil’s economy. The information technologies created new opportunities for firms through the virtual net. The electronic commerce is an important tool and its adoption by small enterprises is considered a good deal, even though there are risks to be considered. In terms of exportation, small firms can improve its participation if they can use the Internet. This paper suggests issues for research in this agenda.

    Get PDF

ATLANTIC EPIPHYTES: a data set of vascular and non-vascular epiphyte plants and lichens from the Atlantic Forest

Epiphytes are hyper-diverse and one of the frequently undervalued life forms in plant surveys and biodiversity inventories. Epiphytes of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, have high endemism and radiated recently in the Pliocene. We aimed to (1) compile an extensive Atlantic Forest data set on vascular, non-vascular plants (including hemiepiphytes), and lichen epiphyte species occurrence and abundance; (2) describe the epiphyte distribution in the Atlantic Forest, in order to indicate future sampling efforts. Our work presents the first epiphyte data set with information on abundance and occurrence of epiphyte phorophyte species. All data compiled here come from three main sources provided by the authors: published sources (comprising peer-reviewed articles, books, and theses), unpublished data, and herbarium data. We compiled a data set composed of 2,095 species, from 89,270 holo/hemiepiphyte records, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, recorded from 1824 to early 2018. Most of the records were from qualitative data (occurrence only, 88%), well distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest. For quantitative records, the most common sampling method was individual trees (71%), followed by plot sampling (19%), and transect sampling (10%). Angiosperms (81%) were the most frequently registered group, and Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae were the families with the greatest number of records (27,272 and 21,945, respectively). Ferns and Lycophytes presented fewer records than Angiosperms, and Polypodiaceae were the most recorded family, and more concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern regions. Data on non-vascular plants and lichens were scarce, with a few disjunct records concentrated in the Northeastern region of the Atlantic Forest. For all non-vascular plant records, Lejeuneaceae, a family of liverworts, was the most recorded family. We hope that our effort to organize scattered epiphyte data help advance the knowledge of epiphyte ecology, as well as our understanding of macroecological and biogeographical patterns in the Atlantic Forest. Testing Brazilians' imports and exports co-integration with monthly data for 1996-2005

The goal of this paper is to test the Husted model and to inspect the long-run sustainability of Brazilian current account in a very specific period of time (1996-2005) by the use of monthly data. We have tested the inter-temporal budget constraints (IBC) condition via unit root test with structural break and co-integration through Gregory-Hansen test in a 117 long nominal, GDP normalized and CPI normalized series for the Brazilian economy. The results indicated that the pure IBC condition does not hold for the Brazilian economy. However, there is co-integration among the series used in this work and the balance of accounts is sustainable

Expansão Agrícola no Brasil e a Participação da Soja: 20 anos

The article tried to map the inherent differences stemming from the growth in production area for Brazilian agriculture during the period 1994-2013 within the context of Brazilian mesoregions as well soybeans share in this process. The study employed data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Cluster Analysis and two increasing indicators were used to identify similarities among the Brazilian agricultural mesoregions, and Locational Quotients and Gini Locational Coefficients were calculated to measure the soybean participative amount in such phenomenon. Results highlight a frontier agricultural area in the central-northwest of Brazil. Concerning the soybean results expose its prominent share in the detected growth of used area for agricultural ends
