In order to improve the compatibility and the intelligent level of sensors, in this work, a novel intelligent sensor interface model defined by IEEE1451.2 standard is proposed.     The expression and role of protein kinase C (PKC) epsilon in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

    Protein kinase C epsilon (PKCĪµ), an oncogene overexpressed in several human cancers, is involved in cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and survival. However, its roles in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the functions of PKCĪµ in RCC, especially in clear cell RCC, to determine the possibility of using it as a therapeutic target. By immunohistochemistry, we found that the expression of PKCĪµ was up-regulated in RCCs and was associated with tumor Fuhrman grade and T stage in clear cell RCCs. Clone formation, wound healing, and Borden assays showed that down-regulating PKCĪµ by RNA interference resulted in inhibition of the growth, migration, and invasion of clear cell RCC cell line 769P and, more importantly, sensitized cells to chemotherapeutic drugs as indicated by enhanced activity of caspase-3 in PKCĪµ siRNA-transfected cells. These results indicate that the overexpression of PKCĪµ is associated with an aggressive phenotype of clear cell RCC and may be a potential therapeutic target for this disease

    Percutaneous closure versus surgical repair for ruptured sinus of valsalva aneurysm: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    ObjectivesRuptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (RSVA) often has an abrupt onset, and can chest pain, acute heart failure, and even sudden death. The effectiveness of different treatment modalities remains controversial. Thus, we completed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficiency and safety of traditional surgery vs. percutaneous closure (PC) for RSVA.MethodsWe carried out a meta-analysis using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang Data, and the China Science and Technology Journal Database. The primary outcome was comparing in-hospital mortality between the two procedures, and the secondary outcome was documenting postoperative residual shunts, postoperative aortic regurgitation, and length of hospital stay in the two groups. Differences were expressed as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the relationships between predefined surgical variables and clinical outcomes. This meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager software (version 5.3).ResultsThe final qualifying studies included 330 patients from 10 trials (123 in the percutaneous closure group, and 207 in the surgical repair group). When PC was compared to surgical repair, there were no statistically significant differences in in-hospital mortality (overall OR: 0.47, 95%CI 0.05ā€“4.31, Pā€‰=ā€‰0.50). However, percutaneous closure did significantly decrease the average length of hospital stay (OR: āˆ’2.13, 95% CI āˆ’3.05 to āˆ’1.20, Pā€‰<ā€‰0.00001) when compared to surgical repair, but there were no significant between-group differences in the rates of postoperative residual shunts (overall OR: 1.54, 95%CI 0.55ā€“4.34, Pā€‰=ā€‰0.41) or postoperative aortic regurgitation (overall OR: 1.54, 95%CI 0.51ā€“4.68, Pā€‰=ā€‰0.45).ConclusionPC may become a valuable alternative to surgical repair for RSVA

    IntroductionBladder cancer (BC) is a significant carcinoma of the urinary system that has a high incidence of morbidity and death owing to the challenges in accurately identifying people with early-stage BC and the lack of effective treatment options for those with advanced BC. Thus, there is a need to define new markers of prognosis and prediction.MethodsIn this study, we have performed a comprehensive proteomics experiment by label-free quantitative proteomics to compare the proteome changes in the serum of normal people and bladder cancer patientsā€”the successful quantification of 2064 Quantifiable proteins in total. A quantitative analysis was conducted to determine the extent of changes in protein species' relative intensity and reproducibility. There were 43 upregulated proteins and 36 downregulated proteins discovered in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and normal individuals. Sixty-four of these proteins were elevated, and 51 were downregulated in muscle-invasive and non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, respectively. Functional roles of differentially expressed proteins were annotated using Gene Ontology (GO) and Clusters of Orthologous Groups of Proteins (COG). To analyze the functions and pathways enriched by differentially expressed proteins, GO enrichment analysis, protein domain analysis, and KEGG pathway analysis were performed. The proteome differences were examined and visualized using radar plots, heat maps, bubble plots, and Venn diagrams.ResultsAs a result of combining the Venn diagram with protein-protein interactions (PPIs), Chloride intracellular channel 1 (CLIC1) was identified as the primary protein. Using the Gene Set Cancer Analysis (GSCA) website, the influence of CLIC1 on immune infiltration was analyzed. A negative correlation between CD8 naive and CLIC1 levels was found. For validation, immunohistochemical (IHC), qPCR, and western blotting (WB) were performed.Further, we found that CLIC1 was associated with a poor prognosis of bladder cancer in survival analysis.DiscussionOur research screened CLIC1 as a tumor-promoting protein in bladder cancer for the first time using serum mass spectrometry. And CLIC1 associated with tumor stage, and immune infiltrate. The prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target CLIC1 may be new for bladder cancer patients

    The purpose of this paper is to identify practical issues in Internet recruitment of racial/ethnic minorities by analyzing an Internet intervention study conducted with Asian American breast cancer survivors, and to propose directions for recruitment of racial/ethnic minorities for future Internet research. Six practical issues were identified: (a) a relatively fewer number of Internet communities/groups; (b) hindrances in establishing authenticity; (c) difficulties in gaining entrƩe from the webmasters or website owners of Internet communities/groups; (d) the necessity of racially/ethnically matched research team members; (e) flexibility required in recruitment strategies; and (f) strategies to overcome the low response rate
