Spectroscopy of the post-AGB star HD 101584(IRAS 11385-5517)
From an analysis of the spectrum (4000\AA to 8800\AA) of HD~101584 it is
found that most of the neutral and single ionized metallic lines are in
emission. The forbidden emission lines of [OI] 6300\AA and 6363\AA and [CI]
8727\AA are detected, which indicate the presence of a very low excitation
nebula. The H, FeII 6383\AA, NaI D, D lines and the CaII IR
triplet lines show P-Cygni profiles indicating a mass outflow. The H
line shows many velocity components in the profile. The FeII 6383\AA also has
almost the same line profile as the H line indicating that they are
formed in the same region. From the spectrum synthesis analysis we find the
atmospheric parameters to be T=8500K, log g=1.5,
V=13km~s and [Fe/H]=0.0. From an analysis of the absorption
lines the photospheric abundances of some of the elements are derived. Carbon
and nitrogen are found to be overabundant. From the analysis of Fe emission
lines we derived T=6100K200 for the emission line region.Comment: To appear in A&A, 15 pages, 11 figure

Rubidium and zirconium abundances in massive Galactic asymptotic giant branch stars revisited
Luminous Galactic OH/IR stars have been identified as massive (>4-5 M_s) AGB
stars experiencing HBB and Li production. Their Rb abundances and [Rb/Zr]
ratios derived from hydrostatic model atmospheres, are significantly higher
than predictions from AGB nucleosynthesis models, posing a problem to our
understanding of AGB evolution and nucleosynthesis. We report new Rb and Zr
abundances in the full sample of massive Galactic AGB stars, previously studied
with hydrostatic models, by using more realistic extended model atmospheres. We
use a modified version of the spectral synthesis code Turbospectrum and
consider the presence of a circumstellar envelope and radial wind. The Rb and
Zr abundances are determined from the 7800 A Rb I resonant line and the 6474 A
ZrO bandhead, respectively, and we explore the sensitivity of the derived
abundances to variations of the stellar (Teff) and wind (M_loss, beta and vexp)
parameters in the extended models. The Rb and Zr abundances derived from the
best spectral fits are compared with the most recent AGB nucleosynthesis
theoretical models. The new Rb abundances are much lower (even 1-2 dex) than
those derived with the hydrostatic models, while the Zr abundances are similar.
The Rb I line profile and Rb abundance are very sensitive to the M_loss rate
but much less sensitive to variations of the wind velocity-law and the
vexp(OH). We confirm the earlier preliminary results based on a smaller sample
of massive O-rich AGB stars, that the use of extended atmosphere models can
solve the discrepancy between the AGB nucleosynthesis theoretical models and
the observations of Galactic massive AGB stars. The Rb abundances, however, are
still strongly dependent of the M_loss, which is unknown in these AGB stars.
Accurate M_loss rates in these massive Galactic AGB stars are needed in order
to break the models degeneracy and get reliable Rb abundances in these stars.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, 14 pages, 12 figures, 4 table
Sub-arcsecond Morphology of Planetary Nebulae
Planetary nebulae (PNe) can be roughly categorized into several broad
morphological classes. The high quality images of PNe acquired in recent years,
however, have revealed a wealth of fine structures that preclude simplistic
models for their formation. Here we present narrow-band, sub-arcsecond images
of a sample of relatively large PNe that illustrate the complexity and variety
of small-scale structures. This is especially true for bipolar PNe, for which
the images reveal multi-polar ejections and, in some cases, suggest turbulent
gas motions. Our images also reveal the presence or signs of jet-like outflows
in several objects in which this kind of component has not been previously

Understanding pseudo-albinism in sole (Solea senegalensis): a transcriptomics and metagenomics approach
Pseudo-albinism is a pigmentation disorder observed in flatfish aquaculture with a complex, multi-factor aetiology. We tested the hypothesis that pigmentation abnormalities are an overt signal of more generalised modifications in tissue structure and function, using as a model the Senegalese sole and two important innate immune barriers, the skin and intestine, and their microbiomes. Stereological analyses in pseudo-albino sole revealed a significantly increased mucous cell number in skin (P < 0.001) and a significantly thicker muscle layer and lamina propria in gut (P < 0.001). RNA-seq transcriptome analysis of the skin and gut identified 573 differentially expressed transcripts (DETs, FDR < 0.05) between pseudo-albino and pigmented soles (one pool/tissue from 4 individuals/phenotype). DETs were mainly linked to pigment production, skin structure and regeneration and smooth muscle contraction. The microbiome (16 S rRNA analysis) was highly diverse in pigmented and pseudo-albino skin but in gut had low complexity and diverged between the two pigmentation phenotypes. Quantitative PCR revealed significantly lower loads of Mycoplasma (P < 0.05) and Vibrio bacteria (P < 0.01) in pseudo-albino compared to the control. The study revealed that pseudo-albinism in addition to pigmentation changes was associated with generalised changes in the skin and gut structure and a modification in the gut microbiome.Agência financiadora
