    Structural insight into the TFIIE–TFIIH interaction: TFIIE and p53 share the binding region on TFIIH

    RNA polymerase II and general transcription factors (GTFs) assemble on a promoter to form a transcription preinitiation complex (PIC). Among the GTFs, TFIIE recruits TFIIH to complete the PIC formation and regulates enzymatic activities of TFIIH. However, the mode of binding between TFIIE and TFIIH is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate the specific binding of the C-terminal acidic domain (AC-D) of the human TFIIEα subunit to the pleckstrin homology domain (PH-D) of the human TFIIH p62 subunit and describe the solution structures of the free and PH-D-bound forms of AC-D. Although the flexible N-terminal acidic tail from AC-D wraps around PH-D, the core domain of AC-D also interacts with PH-D. AC-D employs an entirely novel binding mode, which differs from the amphipathic helix method used by many transcriptional activators. So the binding surface between PH-D and AC-D is much broader than the specific binding surface between PH-D and the p53 acidic fragments.     Reducing Rotor Temperature Rise in Concentrated Winding Motor by Using Magnetic Powder Mixed Resin Ring

    The demand for high-speed servomotors is increasing, and minimal losses in both high-speed and high-torque regions are required. Copper loss reduction in permanent magnet motors can be achieved by configuring concentrated winding, but there are more spatial harmonics compared with distributed winding. At high-speed rotation, the eddy current loss of the rotor increases, and efficiency tends to decrease. Therefore, we propose a motor in which a composite ring made from resin material mixed with magnetic powder is mounted on the stator to suppress spatial harmonics. This paper describes three characteristic motor types, namely, open-slot motors, composite-ring motors, and closed-slot motors. Spatial harmonics are reduced significantly in composite-ring motors, and rotor eddy current loss is reduced by more than 50% compared with open-slot motors. Thermal analysis suggests that the saturation temperature rise value is reduced by more than 30 K. The use of a composite ring is effective in reducing magnet eddy current loss during high-speed rotation. Conversely, the torque characteristics in the closed-slot motor are greatly reduced as well as the efficiency. Magnetic circuits and simulations show that on electrical steel sheets with high relative permeability, the ring significantly reduces the torque flux passing through the stator, thus reducing the torque constant. To achieve reduced eddy current loss during high-speed rotation while ensuring torque characteristics with the composite ring, it is necessary to set the relative permeability and thickness of the composite ring according to motor specifications

    Risk Factors for Concussion in Under 18, Under 22 and Professional Men's Rugby Union: A Video Analysis of 14,809 Tackles

    Abstract Objective This study aimed to identify the risk factors for tackle-related concussion observed in matches involving under (U) 18, U 22 and professional men’s Rugby Union players through video analysis. Study Design Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods Twenty Rugby Union matches each for high school (U18), university/college (U22) and professional (Elite) were randomly selected from 202 matches in the 2018/2019 season. Both one-on-one and tackles involving multiple tacklers were analyzed for the 60 matches. The 28 categorical and continuous variables (e.g., tackle characteristics and duration before the tackle) were applied as risk factors to a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) regression analysis. To identify high-risk situations, a simulation model with coefficients obtained from the Lasso regression was used. Statistical analysis was conducted according to tackle direction. Results A total of 14,809 tackles and 41 concussions involving 1800 players were included in the analyses. The incidence rate of concussions (injuries/1000 tackles) was greater in Elite players (4.0) compared with U18 (1.9) and U22 (2.4) players. The factors most highly associated with concussions were head-in-front tackles (where the tackler’s head is placed forward, impeding a ball carrier’s forward movements, 11.26/1000 tackles), and were more often observed among U18 players. A simulation model predicted that the highest risk tackle situation in Elite players was a head-in-front, side-on tackle below the hip of the ball carrier (predicted incidence rate 18.07/1000 tackles). Conclusion The risk factors associated with concussion need to be assessed cautiously. Avoiding head-in-front, side-on tackles to the lower extremities of a ball carrier should be considered to reduce injury risks
