    Effects of market sentiment in index option pricing: a study of CNX NIFTY index option

    This paper provides evidence of the role of sentiments in pricing Indian CNX Nifty index call Option during the period from April 2002 to December 2008. It also shows that Black-Scholes option pricing model using the implied volatility of previous day is pricing the Index options much closer to the actual price compared to Modified Black-Scholes pricing model incorporating non-normal skewness and kurtosis suggested by Corrado & Sue [1996]. The market is pricing the call option higher than Black-Scholes price during bullish period compared to that of bearish period even though sentiments are incorporated in the underlying asset which in this case is the Nifty Index.     Formulation and evaluation of controlled release ethylcellulose and polyethylene glycol microspheres containing metoprolol tartrate.

    Metoprolol tartrate is rapidly absorbed from both gastric and intestinal regions, after oral administration. To retard the release rate of the metoprolol tartrate, microspheres were prepared with varying concentrations of a mixture containing ethylcellulose and polyethylene glycol-6000. The prepared microspheres were evaluated for various physicochemical characteristics and in vitro drug release. The percent yield of microspheres was in the range of 75.2-87.3%. The particle size of microspheres was found to be in the range of 73.2-85.5 μm. Fourier transform-infrared spectral analysis and differential scanning calorimetry concluded the absence of any interaction between the drug and the carriers. The release time profile of metoprolol tartrate from microspheres in 0.1 N hydrochloric acid solution was to the extent of 33.4-60.2%. The complete release of metoprolol tartrate occurred from MPT-3 and MPT-4 in phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4) within 8 and 7 h, respectively, whereas the incomplete release (72.3%) occurred from MPT-1. Nearly, the complete release (98.5%) of metoprolol occurred from MPT-2 in 10 h. Formulation MPT-2 would be a preferred formulation. The release of metoprolol involves diffusion rate limited (R2 = 0.9865) as a mechanism from drug release.     Volume filtered FEM-DEM framework for simulating particle-laden flows in complex geometries

    We present a computational framework for modeling large-scale particle-laden flows in complex domains with the goal of enabling simulations in medical-image derived patient specific geometries. The framework is based on a volume-filtered Eulerian-Lagrangian method that uses a finite element method (FEM) to solve for the fluid phase coupled with a discrete element method (DEM) for the particle phase, with varying levels of coupling between the phases. The fluid phase is solved on a three-dimensional unstructured grid using a stabilized FEM. The particle phase is modeled as rigid spheres and their motion is calculated according to Newton's second law for translation and rotation. We propose an efficient and conservative particle-fluid coupling scheme compatible with the FEM basis that enables convergence under grid refinement of the two-way coupling terms. Efficient algorithms for neighbor detection for particle-particle collision and particle-wall collisions are adopted. The method is applied to a few different test cases and the results are analyzed qualitatively. The results demonstrate the capabilities of the implementation and the potential of the method for simulating large-scale particle-laden flows in complex geometries.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figure

    Dozirani pripravci aceklofenaka za topičku primjenu: In vitro i in vivo karakterizacija

    Aceclofenac is a new generation non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug showing effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is available in the form of tablets of 100 mg. Importance of aceclofenac as a NSAID has inspired development of topical dosage forms. This mode of administration may help avoid typical side effects associated with oral administration of NSAIDs, which have led to its withdrawal. Furthermore, aceclofenac topical dosage forms can be used as a supplement to oral therapy for better treatment of conditions such as arthritis. Ointments, creams, and gels containing 1 % m/m aceclofenac have been prepared. They were tested for physical appearance, pH, spreadability, extrudability, drug content uniformity, in vitro diffusion and in vitro permeation. Gels prepared using Carbopol 940 (AF2, AF3) and macrogol bases (AF7) were selected after the analysis of the results. They were evaluated for acute skin irritancy, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects using the carrageenan-induced thermal hyperalgesia and paw edema method. AF2 was shown to be significantly (p < 0.05) more effective in inhibiting hyperalgesia associated with inflammation, compared to AF3 and AF7. Hence, AF2 may be suggested as an alternative to oral preparations.Aceklofenak je lijek nove generacije nesteroidnih protuupalnih lijekova sa izraženim protuupalnim i analgetskim djelovanjem. Dostupan je u obliku tableta od 100 mg. U ovom radu razvijeni su dozirani pripravci za topičku primjenu u svrhu smanjenja ili uklanjanja nuspojava povezanih s oralnom primjenom nesteroidnih protuupalnih lijekova. Ti pripravci mogu se upotrijebiti kao dodatak peroralnoj terapiji artritisa i srodnih bolesti. Opisana je priprava mazila, krema i gela s 1 % m/m aceklofenaka te njihova fizička svojstva, pH, mazivost, istiskivost, jednolikost sadržaja ljekovite tvari, difuzija i permeabilnost in vitro. Nakon analize rezultata za daljnja ispitivanja odabrani su gelovi pripravljeni na bazi Carbopola 940 (AF2, AF3) i makrogola (AF7). Ispitana je akutna iritacija kože, protuupalno i analgetsko djelovanje koristeći karagenom induciranu termičku hiperalgeziju i edem šape. Pripravak AF2 bio je značajno (p < 0,05) učinkovitiji u inhibiciji hiperalgezije s upalom nego pripravci AF3 i AF7. Stoga se AF2 može predložiti kao alternativa peroralnim pripravcima

    Practice and proficiency of Isha Yoga for better mental health outcomes: insights from a COVID-19 survey

    IntroductionThe COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unparalleled suffering on a global scale, affecting both physical and mental well-being. In such challenging times, it becomes crucial to identify interventions that can alleviate negative mental health outcomes, such as stress, while promoting positive mental health outcomes, like well-being. We report the effectiveness of a mind–body practise, Isha Yoga, in promoting well-being.MethodsWe conducted an online survey, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Yoga practitioners (n = 1,352) from the Isha Yoga tradition in Karnataka, India. We evaluated stress and well-being attributes using conventional psychometric questionnaires. Subsequently, we requested the Isha Yoga practitioners to share another survey with their friends and family members, assessing similar outcomes. From the respondents of this shared survey (n = 221), we identified individuals who currently did not engage in any form of Yoga or meditation, constituting the non-Yoga control group (n = 110). To enhance the reliability and validity of our study and minimize the limitations commonly associated with online surveys, we adhered to the CHERRIES guidelines for reporting survey studies.ResultsIsha Yoga practitioners had significantly lower levels of stress (p &lt; 0.001, gHedges = 0.94) and mental distress (p &lt; 0.001, gHedges = 0.75) while reporting significantly higher levels of well-being (p &lt; 0.001, gHedges = 0.78) and affective balance (p &lt; 0.001, gHedges = 0.80) compared to the control group. Furthermore, expertise-related improvements were observed in these outcomes, and a dose–response relationship was found between regularity of Isha Yoga practice and outcome changes. A minimum 3–4 days of weekly practice showed significant differences with the control group. In addition, we investigated the effect of Isha Yoga on stress and well-being among the healthcare workers (HCWs) in our sample and observed better mental health outcomes.DiscussionThese findings collectively underscore the benefits of Mind and Body practices like Isha Yoga on various aspects of mental health and well-being, emphasizing its potential as an effective and holistic approach for promoting a healthy lifestyle among diverse populations, including healthcare workers, even in difficult circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic

    Norfloxacin and metronidazole topical formulations for effective treatment of bacterial infections and burn wounds.

    INTRODUCTION: Our various previous findings have shown the suitability of norfloxacin in the treatment of bacterial infections and burn wounds in alone as well as in combination with Curcuma longa in various topical (ointments, gels, and creams) and transdermal drug delivery systems. AIMS AND METHODS: Keeping these facts in consideration, we have made an another attempt to prepare semisolid formulations containing 1% w/w of norfloxacin and metronidazole with different bases like Carbopol, polyethylene glycol, and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose for effective treatment of bacterial infections and burn wounds. The prepared formulations were evaluated for physicochemical parameters, in vitro drug release, antimicrobial activity, and burn wound healing properties. RESULTS: The prepared formulations were compared with Silver Sulfadiazine cream 1%, USP. Antimicrobial activity of norfloxacin semisolid formulations was found to be equally effective against both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in comparison to a marketed formulation of Silver Sulfadiazine 1% cream, USP. Based on the burn wound healing property, the prepared norfloxacin semisolid formulation was found to be in good agreement with marketed Silver Sulfadiazine 1% cream, USP. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest formulations containing norfloxacin and metronidazole may also prove as an effective alternative for existing remedies in the treatment of bacterial infections and burn wounds
