Managing the Risky Curve – A Case Report

    Get PDF
Multirooted teeth represent a challenge to both endodontic diagnosis and treatment due to its complex and unusual root canal morphology in many cases and often encountered during endodontic treatment. Success depends on understanding the unusual root canal morphology. One of the variant root canal morphology is the ‘S’ shaped or bayonet shaped root canal. This case report discusses the endodontic management  of ‘S’ shaped root canal in maxillary first premolar

Smile in an Hour with COMPONEER

    Get PDF
This case report describes the step-by-step procedures of clinical cases using prefabricated composite resin veneers (COMPONEER), manufactured with the Brilliant New Generation composite resin (Coltene, Altstätten, Switzerland). Direct composite veneers presented some drawbacks such as the difficulty of execution and color instability of the composite resin over time. The simplified application of the has been introduced as an interesting alternative in cases of smile asymmetry, large deficient restorations and discoloured teeth. The treatment with COMPONEER Brilliant NG yielded excellent aesthetic results. COMPONEER is simpler than direct composite veneer technique. The specific characteristics of the system can promote the results with greater aesthetic longevity. It is important to highlight that this procedure does not replace the already established veneer technique with dental ceramic

    ENDOPERIO LESION

Endo-Perio lesions often remain free of symptoms for long periods, until it starts acute symptoms of inflammation and/or increased pain. The differential diagnosis of endodontic and periodontal diseases can be challenged but a correct diagnosis has a vital importance so that appropriate treatment can be provided. Endodontic treatment is highly predictable and has high successful rate when appropriately performed. If majority of bony support has been lost from periodontitis, regardless of predictability of endodontic therapy, tooth may have hopeless prognosis. Regeneration, root resection and hemisection are indicated as a part of strategic treatment of multirooted teeth. Differentiating between a periodontal and an endodontic problem can be difficult. A symptomatic tooth may have pain of periodontal and/or pulpal origin. The nature of that pain is often the first clue in determining the etiology of such a problem. Radiographic and clinical evaluation can help clarify the nature of the problem. In some cases, the influence of pulpal pathology may cause the periodontal involvement and vice versa. The simultaneous existence of pulpal problems and inflammatory periodontal disease can complicate diagnosis and treatment planning. An endo-perio lesion can have a varied pathogenesis which ranges from simple to relatively complex one

Root canal treatment is a viable option to save a tooth which has quite a number of indications. Though it also depends upon the awareness of people, access to quality treatment, socio-economic condition…etc. which enables a population to go for saving the tooth or extracting the tooth which could have been saved. The current study uses radiographic evaluation, Orthopantomogram (OPG) to evaluate the population of Erbil city of Iraq to have an idea of prevalence of Root Canal Treatment and Missing Tooth either due to extraction or natural reasons. In this study the mean and mean rank of number of teeth with root canal treatment as well as missing teeth in females are more than males and the study also emphasizes that elderly citizens of Erbil have more root canal as well as missing teeth compare to other countries

Ozone: An adjunct in dental treatment

    No full text
Ozone is utilized in dentistry as ozonated oils, ozonated water, and gaseous ozone. The application of ozone in all specialties of dentistry has been demonstrated to be biocompatible. It has been demonstrated to encourage the remineralization of recently carious teeth, and it is utilized in dental caries and intracanal irrigants in endodontic treatment. Herpes virus infection, avascular osteonecrosis of the jaw, and alveolitis have all been treated with it. It can be applied as a supplement in the surgical and ongoing stages of periodontal disease and also hinders plaque formation. The purpose of the present review article is to discuss the numerous application of ozone in dentistry

Aim: The purpose of the present research was to assess the comparison of the fracture resistance ability of various endodontic files like- Hyflex EDM, Neolix Neo NiTi, Protaper Next and Protaper Gold. Methodology: All the instruments were subjected to fracture test using a stainless-steel artificial canal. Time required for fracture as well as number of cycles to failure was calculated at 5 and 8 mm distance from the end of root canal tip. The fractured surfaces were then visualized using electron microscope. The data was analysed using student t-test and Weibull reliability estimation. Results: Hyflex EDM OneFile instruments showed significantly greater cyclic fatigue resistance than protaper Gold Primary instruments as well as protaper next and neolix NiTi. A significant difference was found between the groups for the length of the fracture 5 mm from the tip (P < 0.01). No significant difference was found between the groups for the length of the fracture 8 mm from the tip (P > 0.01). Conclusion: Hyflex EDM OneFile demonstrated the highest performance in terms of cyclic fatigue resistance

Design, synthesis, and structural activity relationship of antimicrobial peptides against multi-drug resistant organisms

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a family of tiny peptides found throughout nature that play a vital role in various organisms' innate immune systems. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPs) are a varied family of naturally occurring chemicals produced by all multicellular organisms as a first line of defense. The rising prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) diseases is the most evident cause for concern. Traditional antimicrobial drugs work by targeting certain metabolic pathways or microbiological structures to kill or hinder bacterial growth. The development of new lead structures to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria is critical, and cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have the ability to do so. Based on the SPOT synthesis, we present an outline of a strategy for screening peptides for antimicrobial activity. Multidrug-resistant bacteria have grown fast in recent decades, leading to a rise in nosocomial infections and in-hospital mortality, as well as posing a threat to world health. We can say that he discovery of antibiotics signaled the start of a golden period in human medicine.&nbsp

478-482The present study was aimed to investigate the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibition and antioxidant activity of the standardized hydro alcoholic extract of Piper longum <span style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic" lang="EN-GB">L. fruits, its fractions and isolated piperine. Extract and its fractions were standardized with reference to marker piperine by HPLC method. ACE inhibition activity was estimated using hippuryl-L-histidyl-L-leucine (HHL) as substrate. Antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging method. Among all the fractions tested, ethyl acetate and butanol fractions showed the maximum ACE inhibitory activity in a concentration-dependent manner with IC50 value of 1.40 ± 0.07 mg/ml and 1.75 ± 0.43 mg/ml respectively. Potential DPPH radical scavenging effect was elicited by the extract and ethyl acetate fraction with IC50 value of 193.12 ± 0.43 µg/ml and 247.78 ± 0.20 µg/ml, respectively. Though piperine showed ACE inhibition and scavenging of DPPH radical but not significant compared to the ethyl acetate fraction. <span style="mso-fareast-font-family: " ms="" mincho";mso-fareast-language:ja;mso-bidi-language:bn"="" lang="EN-GB">P. longum can be explored further as a functional food to be useful as antihypertensive. The present experiment justifies its traditional claim as antihypertensive agent. </span
