Tuning of electron transport through a moebius strip: shot noise

We explore electron transport through a moebius strip attached to two metallic electrodes by the use of Green's function technique. A parametric approach is used based on the tight-binding model to characterize the electron transport through such a bridge system and it is observed that the transport properties are significantly affected by (a) the transverse hopping strength between the two channels and (b) the strip-to-electrode coupling strength. In this context we also describe the noise power of the current fluctuations that provides a key information about the electron correlation which is obtained by calculating the Fano factor (FF). The knowledge of this current fluctuations gives important ideas for fabrication of efficient electronic devices.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

‘Borne again in repetition’ : reincarnation, afterlives, and cultural memory in Amitav Ghosh’s The Calcutta Chromosome

    Get PDF
The present article reads the social and cultural afterlives of a particular marginalised group in colonial Calcutta in Amitav Ghosh’s fourth novel The Calcutta Chromosome, and seeks to examine how these reconstructions of afterlives are linked with the ancient Indian philosophy of rebirth and reincarnation. This study seeks to understand the significance of body and ghost in reconstructing the afterlives and analyse the role of cultural memory throughout that process.peer-reviewe

A Morse theoretic description of the Goresky-Hingston product

The Goresky-Hingston coproduct was first introduced by D. Sullivan and later extended by M. Goresky and N. Hingston. In this article we give a Morse theoretic description of the coproduct. Using the description we prove homotopy invariance property of the coproduct. We describe a connection between our Morse theoretic coproduct and a coproduct on Floer homology of cotangent bundle.Comment: 32 pages, 2 figure

The closed geodesic problem and the string products

In this paper, we show that the Chas-Sullivan product (respectively the Goresky-Hingston product) on level homology detects isolated closed geodesic with slowest (resp. fastest) possible index growth rate. We discuss how string topology along with this result gives a new perspective on questions of the existence of closed geodesics.Comment: 9 page

Manifestation of lattice distortions in the O 1s spectra in Ca1-xSrxRuO3

We investigate the effect of temperature on the electronic and crystal structures of Ca1-xSrxRuO3 via the evolution of O 1s core level spectra as a function of temperature and composition, x. O 1s spectra in SrRuO3 exhibit a dominant sharp feature at all the temperatures with a small trace of impurity feature at higher binding energies. The spectra in Ca doped samples, however, exhibit two distinct features. Analysis of the experimental spectral functions and the band structure results suggest that different Madelung potential at the two types of oxygen sites in the orthorhombically distorted structure leads to such splitting in the O 1s spectra. Interestingly, the energy separation of these two features becomes smaller at low temperatures in the Ca dominated samples concomitant to the observation of non-Fermi liquid behavior in their bulk properties. Such temperature evolution, thus, indicates a direct connection of the lattice degrees of freedom with the electronic properties of these compounds.Comment: four figure
