    Premature Failure of Some Safety Mining Equipments-Their Causes and Remedies

    Nature, perhaps, abhors eternity. Everything that exists in nature weathers / deteriorates and ultimately perishes after a certain span of time. The same philosophy is applicable to machineries / equipment also. Every equipment/machine component is designed for a specific life period. The useful life of a component is limited to the end of its steady state. Focusing on the infant mortality and steady state region assesses the performance of a machine component. But premature failure of the same is deplorable and calls for scientific investigation / studies to identify the causes underlying such failures. If we concentrate our attention to a very specific field, say winding system of mining activities, we come across a lot of equipment / machine components which are being used there. Some of these equipment, directly related to the safety of the working personnel, are branded as “safety equipment” e.g. wire ropes. Cage suspension gear (CSG) and its numerous components. Premature failure of mining safety equipment not only disturbs the work schedule but also leads to cost escalation and decrease in productivity. If the failure is serious in nature, eg. Sudden snapping of a rope while in motion (winding), it might lead to catastrophic consequences. In this article, case studies on failure of some mining safety equipment, mostly wire ropes and CSG components, have been highlighted with analysis of the causes of failure and remedial measures in each case

    Comparative docking studies of Estrogen Receptor inhibitors and their binding interaction analysis

    Comparative docking studies have been performed on 10 drug molecules, which play a vital role in the treatment of breast cancer. These 10 drug molecules have the same target called Estrogen Receptor which acts as a DNA-binding transcription factor that regulates gene expression. The glide scores of these 10 drugs were compared to each other using the module Glide which is a part of the Schrödinger software, which provided a better understanding of the binding interactions of the ten drug molecules. Among the 10 drugs taken, toremifene had the lowest glide score, i.e. -9.82, which shows that it had better binding interaction with the protein
