    Carotid Artery Stent Continued Expansion Days After Deployment, Without Post Stent Deployment Angioplasty.

    This is a carotid artery stent (CAS) case report, which avoids post-stent deployment angioplasty (Post-SDA), with duplex confirmed continued stent expansion at 1, 3 and 30-day post deployment. This report confirms that self-expanding nitinol stents in the carotid artery may not require Post-SDA. We believe CAS can be performed without Post-SDA, which helps reduce the occurrence of intraoperative hemodynamic depression

    In present work we study the effect of the Omega (ω (782)) resonance on the response functions for the incoherent negative pion electroproduction form the deuteron at different values for the four-momentum transfers squared (K2) and the virtual photon lab energy (k0lab). The study is carried out in the impulse approximation (IA) i.e. the final state interactions are neglected.     A Comparative Study of the Radiological Hazard in Sediments Samples from Drinking Water Purification Plants Supplied From Different Sources

    The natural radiation level has been determined for 135 sediment samples from forty-six drinking water purification plants supplied from different sources (Nile River, Ibrahimia Canal and Bahr Yousif Canal) with an aim of evaluating the radiation hazard. The concentration of natural radionuclides (226Ra, 232Th and 40K) has been investigated by using gamma spectrometry (NaI (Tl) 3″x 3″) detector. The results showed that the concentrations of average activity in the sediment samples collected from drinking water purification plants supplied from Nile River, Ibrahimia Canal and Bahr Yousif Canal are (29±2, 30±2 and 240±8 Bq kg-1), (47±3, 46±8 and 258±12 Bq kg-1) and (28±2, 27±3 and 219±18 Bq kg-1) for 226Ra, 232Th and 40K, respectively. In general, the distributions of average activity concentrations of samples under investigation are within the world values although some extreme values have been determined. Radiological hazard effects such as: absorbed dose rate (D), outdoor and indoor annual effective dose equivalent (AEDE), radium equivalent activities (Raeq), hazard indices (Hex and Hin), gamma index (Iγ), excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) and annual gonadal dose equivalent (AGDE) for the corresponding samples were also estimated

    Islamism and the state after the Arab uprisings: Between people power and state power

    The authors would like to thank the Arts and Humanities Research Council for facilitating the research for this article through their support of the research network People Power versus State Power of the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World.This paper examines the trajectories of different Islamist trends in the light of the Arab uprisings. It proposes a distinction between statist and non-statist Islamism to help understand the multiplicity of interactions between Islamists and the state, particularly after 2011. It is outlined how statist Islamists (Islamist parties principally) can contribute to the stabilization and democratization of the state when their interactions with other social and political actors facilitate consensus building in national politics. By contrast when these interactions are conflictual, it has a detrimental impact on both the statist Islamists, and the possibility of democratic politics at the national level. Non statist-Islamists (from quietist salafi to armed jihadi) who prioritize the religious community over national politics are directly impacted by the interactions between statist Islamists and the state, and generally tend to benefit from the failure to build a consensus over democratic national politics. Far more than nationally-grounded statist Islamists, non-statist Islamists shape and are shaped by the regional dynamics on the Arab uprisings and the international and transnational relations between the different countries and conflict areas of the Middle East. The Arab uprisings and their aftermath reshaped pre-existing national and international dynamics of confrontation and collaboration between Islamists and the state, and between statist and non-statists Islamists, for better (Tunisia) and for worse (Egypt).PostprintPeer reviewe
