    Synergistic Effects of Applying Potassium Nitrate Spray with Putrescine on Productivity and Fruit Quality of Mango Trees cv. Ewais

    The current investigation represents of the synergistic effects of application of potassium nitrate (KNO3) in combination with putrescine (Put) on flowering, productivity, and fruit quality on Ewais mango (Mangifera indica L.) trees during the seasons 2021/2022 and 2022/2023. The selected trees were sprayed at three different stages, including flower bud differentiation, full bloom, and beginning of the fruit set, with one of the following treatments: control, 2% KNO3, 4% KNO3, 50 ppm Put, 75 ppm Put, 2% KNO3 + 50 ppm Put, 2% KNO3 + 75 ppm Put, 4% KNO3 + 50 ppm Put, 4% KNO3 + 75 ppm Put. Results showed that all treatments were successful in improving the productivity of mango trees by increasing flowering terminal shoots, fruit set, fruit retention, number of fruits/tree, yield, and fruit yield increment while reducing the percentage of fruit drop, as well as improving the quality of mango fruits cv. Ewais by increasing fruit length, fruit diameter, TSS, total sugars, V.C, and total phenol and carotenoid content, but at the same time, diminishing the total acidity, as compared with control. Based on this research, the application of 4% KNO3 in conjunction with 75 ppm Putrescine has shown the most prominent advances in enhancing Ewais tree productivity and fruit quality.     The Changing Landscape for Stroke\ua0Prevention in AF: Findings From the GLORIA-AF Registry Phase 2

    Background GLORIA-AF (Global Registry on Long-Term Oral Antithrombotic Treatment in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation) is a prospective, global registry program describing antithrombotic treatment patterns in patients with newly diagnosed nonvalvular atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke. Phase 2 began when dabigatran, the first non\u2013vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC), became available. Objectives This study sought to describe phase 2 baseline data and compare these with the pre-NOAC era collected during phase 1. Methods During phase 2, 15,641 consenting patients were enrolled (November 2011 to December 2014); 15,092 were eligible. This pre-specified cross-sectional analysis describes eligible patients\u2019 baseline characteristics. Atrial fibrillation disease characteristics, medical outcomes, and concomitant diseases and medications were collected. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results Of the total patients, 45.5% were female; median age was 71 (interquartile range: 64, 78) years. Patients were from Europe (47.1%), North America (22.5%), Asia (20.3%), Latin America (6.0%), and the Middle East/Africa (4.0%). Most had high stroke risk (CHA2DS2-VASc [Congestive heart failure, Hypertension, Age  6575 years, Diabetes mellitus, previous Stroke, Vascular disease, Age 65 to 74 years, Sex category] score  652; 86.1%); 13.9% had moderate risk (CHA2DS2-VASc = 1). Overall, 79.9% received oral anticoagulants, of whom 47.6% received NOAC and 32.3% vitamin K antagonists (VKA); 12.1% received antiplatelet agents; 7.8% received no antithrombotic treatment. For comparison, the proportion of phase 1 patients (of N = 1,063 all eligible) prescribed VKA was 32.8%, acetylsalicylic acid 41.7%, and no therapy 20.2%. In Europe in phase 2, treatment with NOAC was more common than VKA (52.3% and 37.8%, respectively); 6.0% of patients received antiplatelet treatment; and 3.8% received no antithrombotic treatment. In North America, 52.1%, 26.2%, and 14.0% of patients received NOAC, VKA, and antiplatelet drugs, respectively; 7.5% received no antithrombotic treatment. NOAC use was less common in Asia (27.7%), where 27.5% of patients received VKA, 25.0% antiplatelet drugs, and 19.8% no antithrombotic treatment. Conclusions The baseline data from GLORIA-AF phase 2 demonstrate that in newly diagnosed nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients, NOAC have been highly adopted into practice, becoming more frequently prescribed than VKA in Europe and North America. Worldwide, however, a large proportion of patients remain undertreated, particularly in Asia and North America.     A two-year field trial was conducted in a vineyard (northern Egypt)cultivated with Thompson seedless grapevines to evaluate the effectiveness of four "alternative" (biological/chemical) treatments, Bacillus megaterium, boric acid, calcium nitrate and chitosan, against the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Mi), compared to that of the nematicide oxamyl. The influence of these treatments on plant nutritional status and fruit yield and quality was also assessed. All treatments significantly inhibited Mi reproduction parameters in both seasons, decreasing the numbers of nematode galls and egg masses (roots) and of second-stage juveniles (soil). Oxamyl application resulted in the highest reductions in Mi-reproduction parameters, followed by boric acid, which also showed the highest relative nematicidal efficacy (respect to oxamyl). In the 1st season, the highest fruit yield (10.34 kg/grapevine) was recorded from boric acid-treated plants, followed by that from oxamyl-treated plants (7.50 kg/grapevine); in the subsequent season (2019), oxamyl use led to the highest yield, followed by boric acid + chitosan use (10.04 and 8.62 kg/grapevine, respectively). In both seasons, application of boric acid alone and combined with chitosan enhanced the total soluble solids (TSS)/total acidity ratio in grape juice. All treatments led to higher nutrient contents (leaf petioles) and chlorophyll levels (leaves) as well as enhanced fruit size and weight. We conclude that the tested treatments can be safely applied for nematode management in Thompson seedless grapevines, with positive effects on fruit yield and quality

    Application of artificial neural network and support vector regression in predicting mass of ber fruits (Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk.) based on fruit axial dimensions.

    Fruit quality attributes are important factors for designing a market for agricultural goods and commodities. Support vector regression (SVR), MLR, and ANN models were established to predict the mass of ber fruits (Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk.) based on the axial dimensions of the fruit from manual measurements of fruit length, minor fruit diameter, and maximum fruit diameter of four ber cultivars. The precision and accuracy of the established models were assessed given their predicted values. The results revealed that using the validation dataset, the developed ANN (R2 = 0.9771; root mean square error [RMSE] = 1.8479 g) and SVR (R2 = 0.9947; RMSE = 1.8814 g) models produced better results when predicting ber fruit mass than those obtained by the MLR model (R2 = 0.4614; RMSE = 11.3742 g). In estimating ber fruit mass, the established SVR and ANN models produced more precise prediction values than those produced by the MLR model; however, the performance differences between the SVR and ANN models were not clear

    Abstract Laser drilling is capable of reducing drilling costs and time. In laser drilling, a high rate of penetration (ROP) can be achieved, and the hole is cased due to laser interaction once it is drilled. In addition, laser technology can substitute conventional perforation techniques with no formation damage. Rock cutting with a laser beam is affected by various variables that fall within three categories; the rock parameters, purging system and experimental setup, and laser parameters. Each set of these categories affects the rock lasing process. Formation parameters include rock type, sample size, orientation, and the type of fluids saturating the rock sample. The purging system parameters include the type of purging system, application parameters, and the purging medium. Laser parameters involve laser type, laser application mode, beam power, duration, intensity, and frequency. This paper reviews several experimental works performed by institutes, researchers, and entities to provide the reader with a comprehensive knowledge base for further experimental work, modeling for laser drilling, and studies. Because performed laser drilling experimental work is huge and covers tremendous aspects, only the purging system and effect of formation parameters were considered in this review, while laser parameters will be presented in a later paper. Results showed that the laser can drill swiftly through all rock types in conventional vertical, directional, or horizontal drilling. For optimum laser drilling, the purging system and its parameters must be carefully chosen, including the type of system, purging gas, gas pressure, distance to the lased sample surface, and the purging angle.     Objective: to compare between the efficacy of oral versus rectal misoprostol in the treatment of incomplete abortion. Design: prospective controlled trial. Patients were allocated to intervention using alternate sequence Setting: Al-Hussein Hospital, Al-Azhar University Materials and methods: one hundred women with retained products of conception were divided into two groups: G1: fifty women received misoprostol 200 ÎĽg misoprostol/4 hs rectally and G2; fifty women received it orally. Follow up and side effects were recorded Results: There was no significant difference between both groups regarding their background characteristics, response to misoprostol, need to do D&C or side effects. the dose of 200ug misoprostol every 4 hours (orally and rectally) for a maximum of 3 doses was not only effective in complete evacuation but also had low incidence of side-effects especially vomiting diarrhea and bleeding Conclusion: misoprostol whether by oral or rectal route seems to be an effective as a non invasive method for evacuation of the uterus in women with retained products of conception

    Yield and Heat Unit Requirements for Several Citrus Cultivars over Several Seasons in Egypt

    Citrus cultivars have various temperature needs for development and output at different times from flowering to harvesting, making climate one of the numerous factors that affect citrus’ productivity and quality. In this study, the yield and heat unit requirements for several commercial citrus species over several seasons from 2010/2011 to 2021/2022 in Egypt were investigated. For this investigation, the time of flowering and the time of fruit harvesting were recorded. However, the required heat units from flowering to fruit harvesting were calculated based on daily records of air temperature, taking into account that all results below zero (negative results) are not used and all maximum air temperatures above 35.0 °C (≥35.1) are changed to 35.0 °C. In addition, the base air temperature of 13.0 °C was utilized for determining the required heat units. The results showed that in the experimental area, the overall mean of minimum air temperature, maximum air temperature, air relative humidity, and precipitation during the experimental periods had values of 15.2 °C, 28.70 °C, 59.3%, and 0.3 mm/day, respectively. Moreover, the lowest number of days required from flowering to fruit harvesting was observed to be 290.0 days for Fremont mandarin. Furthermore, the highest number of days required from flowering to fruit harvesting was observed to be 482 and 440 days, respectively, for Bearss Seedless lime and Valencia orange. Our study has highlighted a notable diversity among the investigated citrus cultivars, particularly highlighting specific cultivars that possess high yield. The cultivar that shows the greatest yield over the investigated seasons of the study was Valencia orange with 147.6 kg/tree. Moreover, the average values of the heat unit requirements for Washington Navel orange, Valencia orange, Murcott mandarin, Fremont mandarin, and Bearss Seedless lime were 3112.7, 3628.3, 3221.9, 3027.6, and 4398.4 °C day, respectively. This is the first report regarding the heat unit’s determination for several citrus cultivars grown in Egypt, and we expect this research will provide a new awareness in accepting and discovering novel locations where citrus cultivars can be positively developed in Egypt. It will also prove to be a source of basic information for the development of the citrus crop model

    The effect of (NH4)2SO4:Ca(NO3)2 ratios applied by fertigation on nutritional status, fruit set, yield, and marketable yield of pomegranate trees cv. Wonderful was evaluated. The trees were provided with five nutrient solutions with the same total nitrogen level (200 units/ha) but with different (NH4)2SO4:Ca(NO3)2 ratios (100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, and 60:40). Increasing the (NH4)2SO4 ratio from 60 to 100% significantly reduced the nitrogen (N), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and potassium (K) concentrations while significantly increasing P and Fe concentrations in pomegranate leaves. The highest (NH4)2SO4 proportion (100%) induced a reduction in both chlorophyll content and dry matter values in pomegranate leaves. The maximum fruit set (33.65% and 31.40%) and the minimum fruit drop (6.74% and 6.25%) were recorded at the applied ratio of 60% of (NH4)2SO4:40% of Ca(NO3)2. The applied proportion of 70% of (NH4)2SO4:30% of Ca(NO3)2 provided the minimum fruit sunburn (9.54% and 9.74%) and fruit cracking (6.45% and 5.64%), maximum yield (33.62 and 33.00 kg/tree), and marketable yield (27.41 and 27.93 kg/tree) in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, respectively. Our results provide valuable information about the effects of partial replacement of nitrogen fertilizer from (NH4)2SO4 with nitrogen fertilizer from Ca(NO3)2 on the growth characteristics of pomegranate trees cv.     Impact of organic manure on fruit set, fruit retention, yield, and nutritional status in pomegranate (Punica granatum L. “Wonderful”) under water and mineral fertilization deficits

    This research was conducted on mature pomegranate (Punica granatum L. “Wonderful”) trees growing at a site located in North Coast, Matrouh Governorate, Egypt. The aim was to investigate the impacts of different irrigation regimes in combination with different fertilizer regimes on the fruit set, fruit retention, yield, and nutritional status of the trees. The experimental factors were arranged in a split-plot design, with four replicates per treatment combination. The results indicated that all of the characteristics measured, including leaves nutritional status, percentages of fruit set, fruit drop, fruit retention, fruit cracking, fruit sunburn, and marketable fruit, and yield were significantly affected by the interaction between the irrigation treatment which denoted by percentages of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) and fertilizer regime. The application of 75% mineral fertilizer + 25% organic manure under deficit irrigation of 80% ETo increased the yield by an average of 18.23% over the 2 years compared with 100% mineral fertilization under full irrigation, while 50% mineral fertilizer + 50% organic matter under 80% ETo gave the maximum percentage of marketable fruit (86.23% and 86.84% in 2018 and 2019, respectively). The maximum water use efficiency was obtained with the 80% ETo treatment combined with 75% mineral fertilizer + 25% organic manure in both seasons with values of 9.69 and 10.06 kg/m3 applied water, respectively. These results demonstrate that under the field conditions at the experimental site, the fruit set and retention could be improved by applying a reduced amount of mineral fertilizer in combination with organic manure and less irrigation water
