Association Rules Mining Based Clinical Observations

Healthcare institutes enrich the repository of patients' disease related information in an increasing manner which could have been more useful by carrying out relational analysis. Data mining algorithms are proven to be quite useful in exploring useful correlations from larger data repositories. In this paper we have implemented Association Rules mining based a novel idea for finding co-occurrences of diseases carried by a patient using the healthcare repository. We have developed a system-prototype for Clinical State Correlation Prediction (CSCP) which extracts data from patients' healthcare database, transforms the OLTP data into a Data Warehouse by generating association rules. The CSCP system helps reveal relations among the diseases. The CSCP system predicts the correlation(s) among primary disease (the disease for which the patient visits the doctor) and secondary disease/s (which is/are other associated disease/s carried by the same patient having the primary disease).Comment: 5 pages, MEDINFO 2010, C. Creating social awareness for sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV/AIDS is critical. The 2015 UNAIDS statistics shows that newly infected cases of HIV/AIDS has fallen down by 35% since 2000, worldwide. However, the statistics of Fiji tells a different story. The newly infected HIV/AIDS cases in Fiji has been increasing every year since 2000. Different HIV/AIDS awareness programs have been launched previously such as, workshops and seminars. Despite these efforts, there has been no reduction in the newly infected HIV/AIDS cases. Fiji's health sector is still using traditional approaches for building public awareness. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to explore the benefits of crowdsourcing in developing the social awareness on taboo diseases among Fijians. Data for this study were collected through questionnaire and experimental methods from the people living with HIV as well as from the young Fijians, such as secondary and tertiary students. The result clearly showed that crowdsourcing can be an effective means of assisting Fiji's public health by reaching out to the remote areas, reducing the program costs, and assisting thousands of people simultaneously

The present study explores the politeness strategies used in Pakistani business letters written in English. It benefits from qualitative and quantitative approach of research. The specialized corpus has been compiled on business correspondence and named ‘Pakistani Business English Letters’ (PBEL). PBEL consists of 1000 Pakistani business English letters collected from government and semi-government institutes e.g. banks, universities, private companies, factories etc in 2011. This study investigates the differences between Pakistani and American ways of using politeness strategies in external parts of business letters e.g. Opening and Closing of the letter. The Brown and Levinson (1987) model of politeness strategies has been adapted according to PBEL instances. The software ANTCONC 3.2.4 has been used as research tool in this study to calculate the frequent politeness strategies used within Pakistani Business English letters. This study is very insightful for teachers and learners regarding the usage of politeness strategies in business communication. It will also lend a helping hand to the textbook writers as it will acquaints them with the differences of using politeness strategies for intra-national and international business communication. Electricity consumption is on the rise as the global population is increasing. The need of energy has been discussed in length over the years. Oil and gas have been the primary resource for generators fuel. As oil and gas are a finite resource, an alternative resource that does not harm the environment is needed to generate energy. The Middle East and North Africa have a huge potential for using solar and wind energy to generate electricity as MENA region has one of the highest levels on solar irradiation. A new system of transferring the power through the MENA region is proposed. HVDC can be utilized to transfer energy over large distance with minimal losses where it is used for an interconnection grid between the MENA countries. Moreover, factors affecting future project, in the MENA region, such as the political atmosphere of the MENA countries, and how it affects the decision of constructing a project are analyzed. Secondly, the infrastructure and readiness of the MENA countries toward building Renewable energy and HVDC substation. Thirdly, risks and constrains of implementing these projects. Fourthly, the financial cost of the RE and HVDC projects. Fifthly, how social media and news orient the people thinking and decision making. Sixthly, existing rules and regulations in the energy sector are investigated. Finally, recommendations were given to each factor to ensure the smooth transition to produce green energy by utilizing renewable energy

VAPI: Vectorization of Algorithm for Performance Improvement

This study presents the vectorization of metaheuristic algorithms as the first stage of vectorized optimization implementation. Vectorization is a technique for converting an algorithm, which operates on a single value at a time to one that operates on a collection of values at a time to execute rapidly. The vectorization technique also operates by replacing multiple iterations into a single operation, which improves the algorithm's performance in speed and makes the algorithm simpler and easier to be implemented. It is important to optimize the algorithm by implementing the vectorization technique, which improves the program's performance, which requires less time and can run long-running test functions faster, also execute test functions that cannot be implemented in non-vectorized algorithms and reduces iterations and time complexity. Converting to vectorization to operate several values at once and enhance algorithms' speed and efficiency is a solution for long running times and complicated algorithms. The objective of this study is to use the vectorization technique on one of the metaheuristic algorithms and compare the results of the vectorized algorithm with the algorithm which is non-vectorized.Comment: 21 page

Generation of clean energy is one of the main challenges of the 21st century. Solar energy is the most abundantly available renewable energy source which would be supplying more than 50 of the global electricity demand in 2100. Solar cells are used to convert light energy into electrical energy directly with an appeal that it does not generate any harmful bi products, like greenhouse gasses. The manufacturing of solar cells is actually based on the types of semiconducting or non semiconducting materials used and commercial maturity. From the very beginning of the terrestrial use of Solar Cells, efficiency and costs are the main focusing areas of research. The definition of so called emerging technologies sometimes described as including any technology capable of overcoming the Shockley-Queisser limit of power conversion efficiency 33.7 percent for a single junction device. In this paper, few promising materials for solar cells are discussed including their structural morphology, electrical and optical properties. The excellent state of the art technology, advantages and potential research issues yet to be explored are also pointed out. Md. The basic inflammatory factor interleukin-6 plays an important role in the inflammatory response. It has been shown that IL-6 has a role in insulin resistance and T2DM. The IL-6 gene is found on chromosome 7p15-p21 in humans, it works via a receptor composed of two components, the IL-6 receptor, and gp130. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the regulatory areas of IL-6R genes influence their expression levels and are linked to a higher risk of T2DM. There were 80 T2DM patients and 80 healthy people enrolled in the present work. Fasting blood glucose levels, HbA1C, and IL-6 concentrations were estimated in both groups. The allelic frequencies of 2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs2229238, rs4845625) were identified by PCR-SSP. In this study, we found that the fasting blood sugar levels, HbA1c, and IL-6 levels were statistically highly significant in patients in comparison with controls. In regarding the association of genotypic (CC, CT, TT) and allelic frequencies of rs2229238, and rs4845625 polymorphism of the gene IL6R, and prevalence of diabetes mellitus. The results of PCR-SPP products of rs2229238 (C/T) of the IL6R gene indicated the significant correlation the rs4845625 IL6R polymorphism with T2DM, where no significant association was observed between these genotypes (CC, CT, TT) and allelic (T) frequencies of rs2229238 as a risk factor and T2D
