    The Tamils divided the land into five kinds, according to the characteristics of land, and made it a tradition to cherish and enrich nature, realized that the fallen flowers did not stick to the flowers, did not get the days spent, respected the soil, loved the wind, desired the rain, took up life as a life of flowers, plants, vines, coloured birds, sweating, etc., and thought of it as a life mixed with nature. Since literature was a part of the culture, the Sangam poets were rich in grammar and literary richness in ancient literature, which is the best literature that compiles the culture in written form, by organizing it into biographical data that describes the culture of the people. Therefore, by painting the virtues and civilizational character of the ancient Tamil people in their songs without transgressing tradition and unchanging from tradition, the worldly, the psychology, the well-known ones of the values of life in order to be spoken in a sequence, and the moral ideas to be lived in a manner that is to be lived in the praise of the good, the reproach the unwanted ones, and the society which has developed as an expression of the human emotions of the human mind, in the pursuit of the task of the social work of the social and religious human life. A society that has developed as an expression of human consciousness, from the background of religious human life to the equivalent of the fruits of labour in the fulfillment of social duty, still possesses the primitive elements of the various forms of worship, customs, beliefs, and rituals that we carry out, and has grown to the level of individual life, such as ethnic life, and has grown into a society, recognizing the antiquity of human worship, and begin to worship God. This is a new number and has made the cytological situation in the genus more complex in respect of the basic chromosome number. The chromosomes form a graded series with 4 pairs of satellited chromosomes. On the basis of the present observations a tetraploid level of a complex category has been suggested for this species. An analysis of meiotic stages and the chromosome number in the pollen grains is suggestive of the presence of 1–4 supernumerary chromosomes in the genome of the taxon

    DNA-induced conformational changes in RecA protein. Evidence for structural heterogeneity among nucleoprotein filaments and implications for homologous pairing

    We have used circular dichroism as a probe to characterize the solution conformational changes in RecA protein upon binding to DNA. This approach revealed that RecA protein acquires significant amounts of alpha-helix upon interaction with DNA. These observations, consistent with the data from crystal structure (Story, R. M., Weber, I., and Steitz, T. (1992) Nature 355, 318-325), support the notion that some basic domains including the DNA binding motifs of RecA protein are unstructured and might contribute to the formation of alpha-helix. A comparison of nucleoprotein filaments comprised of RecA protein and a variety of DNA substrates revealed important structural heterogeneity. The most significant difference was observed with poly(dG). poly(dC) and related polymers, rich in GC sequences, which induced minimal amounts of alpha-helix in RecA protein. The magnitude of induction of alpha-helix in RecA protein, which occurred concomitant with the production of ternary complexes, was 2-fold higher with homologous than heterologous duplex DNA. Most importantly, the stimulation of ATP hydrolysis by high salt coincided with that of the induction of alpha-helix in RecA protein. These conformational differences provide a basis for thinking about the biochemical and structural transitions that RecA protein experiences during the formal steps of presynapsis, recognition, and alignment of homologous sequences

    ABSTRACTObjective: Voice Recognition is a fascinating field spanning several areas of computer science and mathematics. Reliable speaker recognition is a hardproblem, requiring a combination of many techniques; however modern methods have been able to achieve an impressive degree of accuracy. Theobjective of this work is to examine various speech and speaker recognition techniques and to apply them to build a simple voice recognition system.Method: The project is implemented on software which uses different techniques such as Mel frequency Cepstrum Coefficient (MFCC), VectorQuantization (VQ) which are implemented using MATLAB.Results: MFCC is used to extract the characteristics from the input speech signal with respect to a particular word uttered by a particular speaker. VQcodebook is generated by clustering the training feature vectors of each speaker and then stored in the speaker database.Conclusion: Verification of the speaker is carried out using Euclidian Distance.     Aromatic interactions in tryptophan-containing peptides: crystal structures of model tryptophan peptides and phenylalanine analogs

    The crystal structures of the peptides, Boc-Leu-Trp-Val-OMe (1), Ac-Leu-Trp-Val-OMe (2a and 2b), Boc-Leu-Phe-Val-OMe (3), Ac-Leu-Phe-Val-OMe (4), and Boc-Ala-Aib-Leu-Trp-Val-OMe (5) have been determined by X-ray diffraction in order to explore the nature of interactions between aromatic rings, specifically the indole side chain of Trp residues. Peptide 1 adopts a type I β-turn conformation stabilized by an intramolecular 4→1 hydrogen bond. Molecules of 1 pack into helical columns stabilized by two intermolecular hydrogen bonds, Leu(1)NH...O(2)Trp(2) and IndoleNH...O(1)Leu(1). The superhelical columns further pack into the tetragonal space group P43 by means of a continuous network of indole-indole interactions. Peptide 2 crystallizes in two polymorphic forms, P21 (2a) and P212121 (2b). In both forms, the peptide backbone is extended, with antiparallel β-sheet association being observed in crystals. Extended strand conformations and antiparallel β-sheet formation are also observed in the Phe-containing analogs, Boc-Leu-Phe-Val-OMe (3) and Ac-Leu-Phe-Val-OMe (4). Peptide 5 forms a short stretch of 310-helix. Analysis of aromatic-aromatic and aromatic-amide interactions in the structures of peptides, 1, 2a, 2b are reported along with the examples of 14 Trp-containing peptides from the Cambridge Crystallographic Database. The results suggest that there is no dramatic preference for a preferred orientation of two proximal indole rings. In Trp-containing peptides specific orientations of the indole ring, with respect to the preceding and succeeding peptide units, appear to be preferred in β-turns and extended structures

    Prickly acacia (Vachellia nilotica subsp. indica), a native multipurpose tree in India, is a weed of National significance, and a target for biological control in Australia. Based on plant genetic and climatic similarities, native range surveys for identifying potential biological control agents for prickly acacia were conducted in India during 2008-2011. In the survey leaf-feeding geometrid, Isturgia disputaria Guenee (syn. Tephrina pulinda), widespread in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States, was prioritized as a potential biological control agent based on field host range, damage potential and no choice test on non target plant species. Though the field host range study exhibited that V. nilotica ssp. indica and V. nilotica ssp. tomentosa were the primary hosts for successful development of the insect, I. disputaria, replicated no - choice larval feeding and development tests conducted on cut foliage and live plants of nine non-target acacia test plant species in India revealed the larval feeding and development on three of the nine non-target acacia species, V. tortilis, V. planiferons and V. leucophloea in addition to the V. nilotica ssp. indica and V. nilotica ssp. tomentosa. However, the proportion of larvae developing into adults was higher on V. nilotica subsp. indica and V. nilotica subsp. tomentosa, with 90% and 80% of the larvae completing development, respectively. In contrast, the larval mortality was higher on V. tortilis (70%), V. leucophloea (90%) and V. planiferons (70%). The no-choice test results support the earlier host specificity test results of I. disputaria from Pakistan, Kenya and under quarantine in Australia. Contrasting results between field host range and host use pattern under no-choice conditions are discussed

    Tryptophan-containing peptide helices: Interactions involving the indole side chain

    Two designed peptide sequences containing Trp residues at positions i and i + 5 (Boc-Leu-Trp-Val-Ala-Aib-Leu-Trp-Val-OMe, 1) as well as i and i + 6 (Boc-Leu-Trp-Val-Aib-Ala-Aib-Leu-Trp-Val-OMe, 2) containing one and two centrally positioned Aib residues, respectively, for helix nucleation, have been shown to form stable helices in chloroform solutions. Structures derived from nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data reveal six and seven intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded NH groups in peptides 1 and 2, respectively. The helical conformation of octapeptide 1 has also been established in the solid state by X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure reveals an interesting packing motif in which helical columns are stabilized by side chain-backbone hydrogen bonding involving the indole Nε1H of Trp(2) as donor, and an acceptor C=O group from Leu(6) of a neighboring molecule. Helical columns also associate laterally, and strong interactions are observed between the Trp(2) and Trp(7) residues on neighboring molecules. The edge-to-face aromatic interactions between the indoles suggest a potential C-H…π interaction involving the Cζ3H of Trp(2). Concentration dependence of NMR chemical shifts provides evidence for peptide association in solution involving the Trp(2) Nε1H protons, presumably in a manner similar to that observed in the crystal
