    A prospective study to compare levonogestrol intrauterine system and trans-cervical resection of endometrium for treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding

    Background: This article is a study comparing the two most accepted forms of treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding - levonorgestrol intrauterine treatment and transcervical resection of endometrium, with regards to its acceptability, efficacy, adverse effects and user satisfaction. Aim of this study was to compare the acceptability, efficacy, adverse effects and user satisfaction of LNG-IUS and TCRE for treatment for AUB.Methods: A prospective observational study conducted in SKNMC and GH. Forty-nine women with abnormal uterine bleeding after hysteroscopic evaluation were included in this study; where 17 opted for LNG-IUS; 32 opted for TCRE with bipolar electrode. 15 patients in LNG-IUS group and 28 pts in TCRE group completed follow up. Menstrual pattern, pictorial blood loss assessment chart score, adverse effects, acceptability, satisfaction and reason for discontinuation were recorded at 6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months after the procedure. Prior to LNG-IUS insertion or endometrial ablation, endometrial and cervical pathology were excluded by D and C and cervical smear, respectively. TVUS was used to exclude possible causes of menorrhagia, including myomas and endometrial polyp as well as adnexal pathology. LNG-IUS insertion was performed as an office procedure one day after cessation of menstrual bleeding with a negative urine pregnancy test.Results: Menstrual blood loss reductions in TCRE and LNG-IUS groups were by 85.7% and 87.6% respectively after a year. Amenorrhoea was more common in TCRE group while spotting and systemic effects were more common in LNG-IUS group. Satisfaction and acceptance rates are higher in TCRE group.Conclusions: The TCRE and LNG-IUS are equally effective in reducing bleeding in AUB patients. Acceptance and satisfaction are better with TCRE, as a modality of treatment for AUB

The study was conducted in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Modem Dental College and Research Center, Indore. The subjects selected for the investigation included 350 individuals from rural and urban localities visiting to Modem Dental College and Research Center, and camp was conducted in school and junior college in Madhya Pradesh (MP) region. Results were statistically analyzed by using mandibular canine index (MCI), calculated by formula and observed that the mean mesiodistal width of the right as well as left mandibular canine was larger in males as compared with females.     Preparation of a Novel Nanocomposite and Its Antibacterial Effectiveness against <i>Enterococcus faecalis</i>—An In Vitro Evaluation

    The interest in the use of green-mediated synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) is shown to have increased due to their biocompatibility and reduction of overall production costs. The current study aimed to evaluate a novel nanocomposite (NC) prepared by using a combination of zinc oxide, silver and chitosan with lemon extract as a cross-linking agent and assessed its antimicrobial effectiveness against Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis). The NPs and NC were prepared individually using a modification of previously established methods. Ananalys is of the physiochemical properties of the NC was conducted using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) (Shimadzu Corporation, Kyoto, Japan). and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging(HR-TEM; JEOL Ltd., Akishima-shi, Japan. The microbial reduction with this novel NC was evaluated by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) using a tube assay analytic technique. A time-kill assay analysis was conducted to evaluate the kinetic potential against E. faecalis at different time intervals. The novel NC showed a homogenous nanoparticle size under TEM imaging and under UV-Vis established an absorption range of 350–420 nm making it similar to its individual counterparts. The MIC and MIB were measured at 62.5 ± 20 mg/L (p p E. faecalis. Based on the achieved results, it was seen that the novel NC using a combination of silver, zinc oxide and chitosan showed improved antimicrobial action against E. faecalis compared with its individual components under laboratory conditions. A complete eradication of 108 log units of E. faecalis at 250 mg/L occurred after a total of 5 h. These preliminary results establish the use of lemon extract-mediated silver, zinc and chitosan-based NC had an antibacterial effectiveness against E. faecalis similar to the individual counterparts used for its production under laboratory conditions
