Relationship between Electronic and Geometric Structures of the O/Cu(001) System
The electronic structure of the
O/Cu(001) system has been calculated using locally self-consistent, real space
multiple scattering technique based on first principles. Oxygen atoms are found
to perturb differentially the long-range Madelung potentials, and hence the
local electronic subbands at neighboring Cu sites. As a result the
hybridization of the oxygen electronic states with those of its neighbors leads
to bonding of varying ionic and covalent mix. Comparison of results with those
for the c(2x2) overlayer shows that the perturbation is much stronger and the
Coulomb lattice energy much higher for it than for the
phase. The main driving force for the
0.5ML oxygen surface structure formation on Cu(001) is thus the long-range
Coulomb interaction which also controls the charge transfer and chemical
binding in the system.Comment: 17 pages, 8 figure
A Comparative Analysis on the Role and Market Linkages of Gold Backed Assets During COVID-19 Pandemic
Gold is a traditional favorite investment avenue for investors all over the globe, particularly during the crisis period. Irrespective of the nature of the crisis, investors are allocating their funds to different gold-backed assets. This paper uses various globally traded gold-backed assets to identify its role and market linkages during the Covid 19 pandemic. Daily prices of assets from March 2020 to January 2022 were employed. DCC GARCH model is used to ascertain time-varying correlations and quantile regression was employed to examine the relationship between assets in different quantiles. Based on the analysis, safe haven property of all the assets is revealed and it is associated with the severity of the stock market crash as specified by the quantiles. Moreover, double exposure of gold mining stock results in different flights to quality. Co-movement of gold bullion, gold futures, and gold volatility index is visible during this crisis. Gold Exchange Traded Funds and gold-backed cryptocurrency offer diversification by decoupling with gold bullion in the portfolio. The paper highlights the importance of the choice of gold-backed assets along with gold bullion in the investment portfolio based on its role and market linkages
The Price Impact of Order Book Events
We study the price impact of order book events - limit orders, market orders
and cancelations - using the NYSE TAQ data for 50 U.S. stocks. We show that,
over short time intervals, price changes are mainly driven by the order flow
imbalance, defined as the imbalance between supply and demand at the best bid
and ask prices. Our study reveals a linear relation between order flow
imbalance and price changes, with a slope inversely proportional to the market
depth. These results are shown to be robust to seasonality effects, and stable
across time scales and across stocks. We argue that this linear price impact
model, together with a scaling argument, implies the empirically observed
"square-root" relation between price changes and trading volume. However, the
relation between price changes and trade volume is found to be noisy and less
robust than the one based on order flow imbalance
A Four-Unit-Cell Periodic Pattern of Quasiparticle States Surrounding Vortex Cores in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d
Scanning tunneling microscopy is used to image the additional quasiparticle
states generated by quantized vortices in the high-Tc superconductor
Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d. They exhibit a Cu-O bond oriented 'checkerboard' pattern, with
four unit cell (4a0) periodicity and a ~30 angstrom decay length. These
electronic modulations may be related to the magnetic field-induced, 8a0
periodic, spin density modulations of decay length ~70 angstroms recently
discovered in La1.84Sr0.16CuO4. The proposed explanation is a spin density wave
localized surrounding each vortex core. General theoretical principles predict
that, in the cuprates, a localized spin modulation of wavelength L should be
associated with a corresponding electronic modulation of wavelength L/2, in
good agreement with our observations.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Market Segmentation Analysis and Visualization Using K-Mode Clustering Algorithm for E-Commerce Business
Today all business organizations are adopting data driven strategies to generate more revenue out of their business. Growing startups are investing a lot of money in data economy to maximize profits of business organizations by developing intelligent tools backed by machine learning and artificial intelligence. The nature of BI tool depends on factor like business goals, size, model, technology etc. In this paper architecture of business intelligence tool and decision process has been discussed with a focus on market segmentation, based on user behavior analysis using k-mode clustering algorithm and user geographical distributions. The proposed toolkit also incorporates interactive visualizations and maps
