The saint who never lets you down: Sant Judes Thaddeus in Latin America. Cultural heritage and religious tourism
The cultural expressions in the XXI century are the elements that are sought to identify
and recognize from the diversity of cultures. The devotions and religious festivities
are some of these expressions that have been identified as Cultural Heritage on an
international or national level, thus provoking their consumption in the perspective of
religious tourism. The case that I expose is what happened in Peru of the festivity of Saint
Jude Thaddeus identifying the actors that promoted their identification of this category at
the national level but that also the same cultural expression has no recognition in others
Latin American countries and they do reproduce their activity, culturally speaking.
From the arguments and data, we identify the elements of what culture is what becomes
heritage, who promotes it and how it is consumed through tourism
Formal [3+2] Cycloaddition Reactions of Electron-Rich Aryl Epoxides with Alkenes under Lewis Acid Catalysis Affording Tetrasubstituted Tetrahydrofurans
We report on the regio- and stereoselective synthesis of tetrahydrofurans by reaction
between epoxides and alkenes in the presence of a Lewis acid. This is an unprecedented formal [3+2]
cycloaddition reaction between an epoxide and an alkene. The chemical reaction represents a very
concise synthesis of tetrahydrofurans from accessible starting compounds
Tool for fast mismatch analysis of analog circuits
A tool is presented that evaluates statistical deviations in performance characteristics of analog circuits, starting from statistical deviations in the technological parameters of MOS transistors. Performance is demonstrated via the analysis of a Miller OTA in two different configurations and a linearized CMOS transconductor. The CPU time is reduced by a factor of 25 to 90 with respect to conventional Monte Carlo simulation, while maintaining similar accuracy in the computations
Effects of foliar fertilization of a biostimulant obtained from chicken feathers on maize yield
Due to the important contribution that it makes to human nutrition, maize is one of the most widely-consumed cereals in the world. There is, therefore, high demand for fertilizers that will maintain maize production at both high yield and quality levels. The objective of this work was to study the effect of foliar fertilization using a biostimulant, obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis from chicken feathers, on the productivity and quality of maize crops (Zea mays, L. cv PR32W86 Pioneer), located in Trujillanos (Extremadura, Spain), over two consecutive seasons. Foliar biostimulant/biofertilizer was applied three times each season and at two rates (3.6 and 7.2 l ha−1). At the higher rate and for both seasons, foliar fertilization significantly increased the leaf concentrations of macro- and micronutrients, while grain protein content and yield increased by 26% and 14%. These results suggest that the foliar use of this biostimulant could be of great interest to the farmer for improving both maize crop yield and quality.
Non-linear pedagogy in handball: the influence of drill constraints
The manipulation of drill constraints facilitates the performance of certain sports behaviours
and according to non-linear pedagogy is the main tool with which coaches can
accomplish their proposed objectives. The objective of this paper was to ascertain
the influence exercised by certain constraints (no-bounce rule, compulsory passing
and receiving while running and making at least five passes to be able to score) in
handball players’ offensive behaviours. The study participants were the 14 members
of a men’s U-15 team with ages ranging between 14 and 15 years (M = 14.6 years,
SD = 0.4). Using a specific/nomothetic/multidimensional technique design, 24 matches
were studied in a modified game situation in the course of six training sessions
to which the constraints studied were applied. Moreover, the use of an individual
defensive system was obligatory. An ad hoc observation instrument was designed
and was input into the Dartfish 5.5 program, which was used as the recording instrument;
intra- and inter-observer concordance and sequential delay analysis was
performed using the GSEQ 5.1 program. The HOISAN 1.2 program was used for the
polar coordinate analysis, which demonstrated the emergence of different behaviours
in order to retain ball possession, progress towards the opponent’s goal and finish
the attack according to the constraints applied. These findings may indicate the most
suitable drill constraints for accomplishing the proposed objectives and avoiding the
selection of drills on the basis of subjective criteri
Global design of analog cells using statistical optimization techniques
We present a methodology for automated sizing of analog cells using statistical optimization in a simulation based approach. This methodology enables us to design complex analog cells from scratch within reasonable CPU time. Three different specification types are covered: strong constraints on the electrical performance of the cells, weak constraints on this performance, and design objectives. A mathematical cost function is proposed and a bunch of heuristics is given to increase accuracy and reduce CPU time to minimize the cost function. A technique is also presented to yield designs with reduced variability in the performance parameters, under random variations of the transistor technological parameters. Several CMOS analog cells with complexity levels up to 48 transistors are designed for illustration. Measurements from fabricated prototypes demonstrate the suitability of the proposed methodology
