    Framing the Pandemic and the Rise of the Digital Surveillance State

    The pandemic caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus has provided a pretext for many countries of the world to extend executive powers, and their digital surveillance capacities in particular. Aiming to identify how different regimes frame digital surveillance, this paper employs qualitative content analysis to compare the government framing of digital surveillance in India, Israel and Singapore. Although due to their different working dynamics, one would expect democracies and autocracies to frame digital surveillance in di!erent ways, our findings reveal an overlap between liberal and illiberal rhetoric across the cases and point to unexplored illiberal peculiarities within the category of ‘democratic backsliders.’ We conclude by cautiously speculating how heightened extents of digital surveillance and tracking may become the new normal across regime types, and how governments might exploit and recycle these same frames to justify digital surveillance after the COVID-19 crisis is over

    Software Product Line (SPL) is at the forefront among the techniques for reducing costs, decreasing schedule time, and ensuring commonality of features across a family of products - as components off-the-shelf (COTS) are reused in multiple products. A disciplined process for software product line development is still needed. We propose the Y-model for COTS-based software product line development. The model put forward identifies and elaborates the essential phases and activities of software product line development from COTS-based repository. The Y-model provides an efficient way of integrating the approaches of software product line and COTS-based development as a cohesive software development model. The model has the potential to tremendously increase software engineers\u27 productivity. Thus software architects, domain engineers and component designers should become aware of how to use these ideas to structure their models and designs.     Listeria monocytogenes is a facultative intracellular pathogen responsible for severe infection in animals and humans. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of Listeriamonocytogenes in 200 samples of raw milk and dairy products marketed in Egypt, with detection the antimicrobial resistance profiles of the isolates for different antimicrobial agents. The synergistic effects of three plant extracts in combination with the used antimicrobials to control resistant L. monocytogenes isolates were assessed, with evaluation of relationship between the antibacterial activity and composition of plant extracts. A total of 5 (2.5%) L. monocytogenes isolates were identified (3 isolates from raw milk and two isolates from kariesh cheese and ice cream, one each). The isolates were sensitive to ciprofloxacin and sulphadimidine, while for amoxicillin and oxytetracycline, were resistant. The higher antimicrobial effects of basil and cinnamon extracts were detected, in addition, low concentrations of them were enough to show synergistic effect with the amoxicillin and oxytetracycline to control resistant isolates, these might be attributable to their chemical compositions. In conclusion, there is need for effectively pasteurized raw milk consumption or usage in the production of dairy products. In addition, the chemical composition of these plant extracts might help in its use to control resistant isolates with appropriate antibiotics without the need for increasing the used dosage doses
