The Effect of Ultrasonic Energy on Joint Characterization in Ultrasonic Spot Welding Multilayer Tabs Used in Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturing
Lithium-ion battery for electric vehicles contains a large number of battery tabs with multiple and thin sheets. Dissimilar metals are often used for different electrodes, for example, the copper and nickel are often used for negative electrode and the aluminum is often used for positive electrode. Meanwhile the thickness of metal sheets are various at different locations. Ultrasonic spot welding is very capable of welding similar and dissimilar combinations. However, there are less heat generation and plastic deformation in the bottom interfaces where ultrasonic energy is difficult to reach. This will result in the unbonded region occurrence caused by ultrasonic energy attenuation.
In this work, experimental investigation was conducted to identify the effect of ultrasonic energy on joint characterization in ultrasonic welding multiple tabs by comparing the plastic deformation in different layers and various joint interfaces. Two sonotrodes with different knurl size were used to produce the welding energy for the tabs joining. Samples were cross-sectioned along vibration direction to obtain hardness profiles and metallographic maps. The hardness profile can be used to identify the changes of grain morphology. Hardness and grain size changes in different layers were also studied to reflect how ultrasonic energy decrease from top to bottom in battery tabs. Thereby, the relationship between material attributes and ultrasonic energy loss was established based on the experimental results
Novel germanium-based magnetic semiconductors
The prospect of integrating electron charge and spin degrees of freedom has invigorated the field of spinpolarized electronics,ââspintronicsââ [1,2]. Most activities are focused on Mn-doped compounds of group III-V and II-VI families, where high quality ferromagnetic epitaxial films have been grown with Curie temperature TC reaching 110 K [3]. However, there is considerable interest in higher TC materials particularly in group IVelements, owing to their potential compatibility with current Sibased processing technology. Recent studies [4,5] show that Ge crystals doped with a transition metal element do exhibit ferromagnetism at low temperature but phase separation of dopant-rich compounds remains to be the main obstacle for achieving higher doping concentrations and producing higher TC materials. Therefore, the bottleneck for implementing spintronics continues to be the lack of materials candidates. Here we report the synthesis and properties of high quality epitaxial films of high TC magnetic semiconductors of Co and Mn-doped Ge. We show that doping with two elements can stabilize structures at higher doping concentrations than those doped with one of the elements, and that the strong interplay between structure and magnetism gives rise to novel magnetotransport phenomen
The Vacuum System of HIRFL
AbstractThe vacuum system of Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL) is a large and complex system. HIRFL consists of two ECR ion sources, a sector focus cyclotron (SFC), a separate sector cyclotron (SSC) and a multi-purpose cooling storage ring system which has a main ring (CSRm) and an experiment ring (CSRe). Several beam lines connect these accelerators together and transfer various heavy ion beams to more than 10 experiment terminals. According to the requirements of the ion acceleration and ion lifetime, the working pressure in each accelerator is different. SFC is nearly 50 years old. After upgrade, the working pressure in SFC is improved from 10-6mbar to 10-8mbar. The pressure in SSC which was built in the 1980s reaches the same level. The cooling storage ring system with a length of 500m came into operation in 2007. The average pressures in CSRm and CSRe are 5Ă10-12mbar and 8Ă10-12mbar respectively. Different designs were adopt for vacuum system of a dozen beam lines to meet specific requirement of each experiment terminal. Along with the extensive development of the heavy ion researches and applications, new accelerators of HIRFL are under construction. The vacuum system of the new machines will be designed and constructed followed the overall schedule
Electroweak Corrections to the Charged Higgs Boson Decay into Chargino and Neutralino
The electroweak corrections to the partial widths of the decays including one-loop
diagrams of the third generation quarks and squarks, are investigated within
the Supersymmetric Standard Model. The relative corrections can reach the
values about 10%, therefore they should be taken into account for the precise
experimental measurement at future colliders.Comment: 21 pages, 6 eps figures, 1 Latex fil
Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons
The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and
Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample
of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with
the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the
decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 ->
\~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and
BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching
fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X)
< 6.6%

By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for
, , ,
and at the three energy
points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed

final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
