Study on Structural Properties of Concrete by Partial Replacement of Fly Ash - A Study
A basic mix design process described by Okamura (Japanese method) was applied in thecurrent study. In this study, a variety of SCC mixes were created utilising fly ash as a partialreplacement for Portland cement of grade 43. The purpose of this study is to construct aviable mix design to meet the criteria of Self Compacting Concrete with Flyash as a partialreplacement in the plastic stage utilising local aggregates, and then to determine thecompressive, split tensile, and flexural strengths. To determine the suitability of selfcompactingconcrete mixtures Slump flow, V-funnel, L-Box, and U-Box tests were carriedout, and the results were compared to the EFNARC guidelines' criteria. Fly ash was replacedin 10%, 20%, and 30% by the weight of cement. Also, to determine the strength attributes ofthe mixtures after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after curing. It was discovered that Fly ash may besubstituted up to 10% in SCC to provide a satisfactory mix similar to SCC without Fly ash.The Compressive strength of SCC with 10% Fly ash substitution is the same as normal SCCwithout Fly ash
Consistency of Reading Techniques to Enhance Expertised Based Language Proficiency For E.S.L Students
English has become the significant language to access the information, interact and to share our ideas and thoughts with different parts of the world. It ranks the role of international language in various fields such as Medicine, Science and Technology, business, tourism etc., To attain the mastery of the language, students have to be enlightened to utilize skills and strategies to understand the texts. Reading involves the interaction to deal with the texts to extract the information, recognize the writing styles through graphic signs, diagrams etc., and decode the information using their background knowledge. For example, W. Grabe and L.F. stoller, define reading as “the ability to draw meaning from the printed page and interpret this information appropriately.” [06]. Therefore, the students should be trained to cultivate reading habits , adopt ways to construct the meaning, lexical patterns, grammar and sentence patterns through automatic retention to understand the texts. Extensive Reading gives an ample scope to develop the language and the relevant schemata to decode the printed material such as fluent reading, fast eye movements, Skimming, Scanning the relevant information to become independent readers. The students have the freedom to select books from a broad variety of books such as Fiction, Biographies, Non-Fiction, comics, animated short stories for general understanding of the language rather than to check the meanings, analyse the Grammar and sentence formations. The research findings have shown that the materials chosen for the second Language Learners have to be graded to implant the regular reading habits to enhance their vocabulary. Graded Readers are the simplified versions of the original texts, light in weight, economical with easy vocabulary to create interest to read further. Reading facilitates the readers to grasp words, syntax and automatic retention of vocabulary takes place as the reader comes across the words repeatedly in different contexts in short stories, comics, Newspapers etc., This can be achieved through practical methods to provide materials which creates interest ,enjoyment and the reader’s motivation to select books suited to their level of understanding. Therefore, the students should be trained to flood books on different topics to implant the reading habits which requires various skills and strategies like Cognitive, Meta-cognitive to explore the hidden treasure of knowledge and to avoid reading the books if it lacks interest or beyond the reach of student’s understanding. This paper tries to focus on students reading habits, comprehension abilities and to utilize the relevant strategies such as skimming, Scanning, analyzing, evaluating the textual knowledge and to enhance the automatic retention of vocabulary. Extensive reading supports the readers to apply the relevant schematic knowledge to grasp the material through mind mapping, graphic signs, decode the information as the reader brings the information, knowledge to the printed material. This involves the fluent reading of enormous printed materials with few follow up exercises as the level of understanding depends on the experience of the reader, reading habits and to utilize the relevant schemata to understand the texts. The more the students read, the more retention of grasping the words, idioms, grammatical structures will automatically build up their confidence, motivation to read further to become independent readers

Hand Gesture Recognization Using Virtual Canvas
Computer vision based hand tracking can be used to interact with computers in a new innovative way. The input components of a normal computer system include keyboard, mouse, joystick are avoided. Gesture recognition pertains to recognizing meaningful expressions of motion by a human, involving the hands, fingers, arms, head, and/or body. It is of utmost importance in designing an intelligent and efficient human–computer interface. The applications of gesture recognition are manifold, ranging from sign language through medical rehabilitation to virtual reality. In this paper, we provide a survey on gesture recognition with particular emphasis on hand gestures and facial expressions. Existing challenges and future research possibilities are also highlighted. Gestures are expressive, meaningful body motions involving physical movements of the fingers, hands, arms, head, face, or body with the intent of conveying meaningful information orinteracting with the environment. A gesture may also be perceived by the environment as a compression technique for the information to be transmitted elsewhere and subsequently reconstructed by the receive
Concomitant pulmonary tuberculosis and tuberculous appendicitis in a recipient of a renal transplant: a case report

Abstract

Introduction

Tuberculosis is still a serious infection among recipients of renal transplants. Although the ileocecal region is the most affected part in intestinal tuberculosis, acute tuberculous appendicitis is quite a rare entity. We report a case of concomitant pulmonary tuberculosis and tuberculous appendicitis in a recipient of a renal transplant.

Case presentation

A 27-year-old Iranian woman, who had been the recipient of a renal transplant five years earlier, presented with a two-week history of coughing, fever and weight loss. The cause of her end-stage renal disease was chronic pyelonephritis. There were fine crackles noted during a chest examination, and a plain chest radiography showed fine miliary nodules throughout her entire lung fields. Sputum and bronchial aspirate examination was positive for acid-fast bacilli, suggestive of <it>Mycobacterium tuberculosis </it>infection. A chest computed tomography scan revealed widespread miliary nodules, compatible with miliary tuberculosis. She developed severe abdominal pain and abdominal surgery disclosed a perforated appendicitis. Histopathological examination of the resected appendix revealed widespread caseating epithelioid granulomas, suggestive of tuberculosis.

Conclusion

Our case report highlights a rare presentation of tuberculosis in a patient who has undergone renal transplant. Such unusual presentation of tuberculosis, particularly among patients receiving potent immunosuppressive protocols, should be considered by clinicians.</p
Role of macrophage sialoadhesin in host defense against the sialylated pathogen group B Streptococcus
ABSTRACT: Several bacterial pathogens decorate their surfaces with sialic acid (Sia) residues within cell wall components or capsular exopolysaccharides. Sialic acid expression can promote bacterial virulence by blocking complement activation or by engagement of inhibitory sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectins (Siglecs) on host leukocytes. Expressed at high levels on splenic and lymph node macrophages, sialoadhesin (Sn) is a unique Siglec with an elongated structure that lacks intracellular signaling motifs. Sialoadhesin allows macrophage to engage certain sialylated pathogens and stimulate inflammatory responses, but the in vivo significance of sialoadhesin in infection has not been shown. We demonstrate that macrophages phagocytose the sialylated pathogen group B Streptococcus (GBS) and increase bactericidal activity via sialoadhesin-sialic-acid-mediated recognition. Sialoadhesin expression on marginal zone metallophillic macrophages in the spleen trapped circulating GBS and restricted the spread of the GBS to distant organs, reducing mortality. Specific IgM antibody responses to GBS challenge were also impaired in sialoadhesin-deficient mice. Thus, sialoadhesin represents a key bridge to orchestrate innate and adaptive immune defenses against invasive sialylated bacterial pathogens. KEY MESSAGE: Sialoadhesin is critical for macrophages to phagocytose and clear GBS. Increased GBS organ dissemination in the sialoadhesin-deficient mice. Reduced anti-GBS IgM production in the sialoadhesin-deficient mice.
