New polynomial and multidimensional extensions of classical partition results
In the 1970s Deuber introduced the notion of -sets in
and showed that these sets are partition regular and contain all linear
partition regular configurations in . In this paper we obtain
enhancements and extensions of classical results on -sets in two
directions. First, we show, with the help of ultrafilter techniques, that
Deuber's results extend to polynomial configurations in abelian groups. In
particular, we obtain new partition regular polynomial configurations in
. Second, we give two proofs of a generalization of Deuber's
results to general commutative semigroups. We also obtain a polynomial version
of the central sets theorem of Furstenberg, extend the theory of
-systems of Deuber, Hindman and Lefmann and generalize a classical
theorem of Rado regarding partition regularity of linear systems of equations
over to commutative semigroups.Comment: Some typos, including a terminology confusion involving the words

The phase diagram in the SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with 't Hooft and eight-quark interactions
It is shown that the endpoint of the first order transition line which merges
into a crossover regime in the phase diagram of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model,
extended to include the six-quark 't Hooft and eight-quark interaction
Lagrangians, is pushed towards vanishing chemical potential and higher
temperatures with increasing strength of the OZI-violating eight-quark
interactions. We clarify a connection between the location of the endpoint in
the phase diagram and the mechanism of chiral symmetry breaking at the quark
level. Constraints on the coupling strengths based on groundstate stability and
physical considerations are explained.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, prepared for the proceedings of Hadron 2009 -

The Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with six and eight quark interactions
The extension of the Nambu-Jona-Lasino Model with six and eight quark
interactions to include the Polyakov loop is analysed. Several interesting
features are determined to be an effect of the choice of the regularization
procedure. The use of a Pauli-Villars covariant regularization enables a
coherent and correct description of several quantities.Comment: 3 pages, 6 figures, to appear in the conference proceedings for Quark

Optimal Invariant Similar Tests for Instrumental Variables Regression
This paper considers tests of the parameter on endogenous variables in an instrumental variables regression model. The focus is on determining tests that have certain optimal power properties. We start by considering a model with normally distributed errors and known error covariance matrix. We consider tests that are similar and satisfy a natural rotational invariance condition. We determine tests that maximize weighted average power (WAP) for arbitrary weight functions among invariant similar tests. Such tests include point optimal (PO) invariant similar tests. The results yield the power envelope for invariant similar tests. This allows one to assess and compare the power properties of existing tests, such as the Anderson-Rubin, Lagrange multiplier (LM), and conditional likelihood ratio (CLR) tests, and new optimal WAP and PO invariant similar tests. We find that the CLR test is quite close to being uniformly most powerful invariant among a class of two-sided tests. A new unconditional test, P*, also is found to have this property. For one-sided alternatives, no test achieves the invariant power envelope, but a new test. the one-sided CLR test. is found to be fairly close. The finite sample results of the paper are extended to the case of unknown error covariance matrix and possibly non-normal errors via weak instrument asymptotics. Strong instrument asymptotic results also are provided because we seek tests that perform well under both weak and
