STRUCTURE OF LIQUID CESIUM LEAD ALLOYS

    No full text
Neutron diffraction measurements have been made on liquid Cs-Pb alloys at the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source. Equiatomic CsPb has been shown in previous work to be a Zintl alloy with well-defined Cs4Pb4 structural units, explaining the anomalously high electrical resistivity and specific heat observed in the molten state. These studies have been extended to the Cs80Pb20 and Cs25Pb75 compositions and also repeated with the equiatomic composition as a reference. The structure of liquid Cs25Pb75 resembles that of solid KPb2. Liquid Cs80Pb20 exhibits large composition fluctuations
