CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO ESTABLISH A NICHE PERFUME COMPANY IN FRANCE
Market research revealed that stiff competition exists in the French perfume market. Most of the fashion-related companies had invested heavily in the market, given the business opportunities that arose from people's lifestyles. However, the existing commercial perfumes were not unique and exciting to some consumers anymore. Most of the giant corporations were yet to respond to this shift in demand, thus creating a unique business opportunity for the proposed company. The supply chains of the existing companies were tuned to favour production efficiency rather than market responsiveness. Therefore, an opportunity existed in the French perfume industry to establish a Niche perfume company to address the demands of perfume enthusiasts. The presented dissertation project defined the challenges and opportunities in creating a niche perfume company in France as well as the design of effective the supply chain, logistics, and inventory management solutions to enable the company to achieve its objectives. The outcome of the thesis was an all-around planning case for the start-up Niche perfume company.
The objective of this project is to define and analyze the challenges and opportunities to establish a Niche perfume company in France and develop a suitable supply chain system to save the best cost possible from logistics and inventory views for the company. The main goal was to provide a brand-new and high-quality smell and visual experience for the perfume market to benefit customers to the perfume market.
The research drew from the actual demand analysis, designing a brand-new perfume product and a complete supply chain system for the establishment of the Niche perfume company. The qualitative research method was used to analyze the history and current situation of the research problem, thereby to understand the whole picture. The literature review method was studied to understand the market situation of Niche perfume. The quantitative research method was utilized to improve research objectivity. Questionnaires were used to provide data for product positioning. The constructive research method was used to specify and analyze the possible existing problem. The supply chain system concept was studied to construct a supply chain system for the company
An analytical study of selected Newbery Award-winning novels : young-adult protagonists and the development of essential capacities
The concepts of autonomy and self-respect have been widely studied in psychological and sociological contexts. It has been recognized that these concepts play an important role in the growth and maturation of adolescents. This study examined the question of whether the essential capacities of autonomy and self-respect as suggested by Attfield are found in outstanding literature written for children and young adults. Eleven Newbery Award-winning novels, in which the protagonists are between the ages of twelve and twenty, v;ere selected for this study. The method of analysis suggested by Hippie and Berelson was adopted to examine the development of autonomy and self-respect in the young-adult protagonists. Attfield\u27s perspective on intrinsic value was adopted to relate autonomy and self-respect. Subcategories used for determining autonomy included a) the ability to make decisions of one\u27s own, b) the ability to follow rules, c) a sense of responsibility for one\u27s beliefs, d) a sense of responsibility for one\u27s attitudes, and e) a sense of responsibility for one\u27s actions. The subcategories of self-respect included a) a person\u27s sense of his own value in such aspects as physical appearance, ability, skills, role, and social status; b) confidence in one\u27s ability to fulfill one\u27s intentions (or autonomous decisions); and c) a sense of the value of one\u27s activities. Findings included the following: Changes in values and attitudes are consistently related to the development of autonomy in all its subcategories. The sense of responsibility for one\u27s beliefs, attitudes, and actions comes from an awareness of consequences and of a readiness to handle those consequences. The factors instrumental in the development and enhancement of a sense of personal value fall into four categories: competence, personality, recognition, and an awareness of one\u27s uniqueness. High levels of motivation are displayed along with the presence of personal aspiration, personal safety considerations, and personal emotional needs. Values acquired during the process of developing their sense of self-respect help the young-adult protagonists to grow and mature into responsible, intelligent, contributing, and independent adults
DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE TRAVEL GUIDE APPLICATION FOR MUSEUMS
In recent years, the development of worldwide travel has been outstanding. At the same time, due to the fast development of the travel business, it is important to offer tourists an enhanced travel platform. In China, most of museums still use narrators to do presentation about exhibition. In order to support museums to provide service in various ways, online product is essential. During the research process for completing this Thesis work, a mobile travel guide application was developed according to the existing condition of museums, which is based on an existing application.
The objective of this project was to develop a mobile travel guide application with added functions to an existing application. The main goal of the application is to provide a wide variety of functions for museums to benefit visitors to museums. Moreover, this application aims to reach the right target group, and do real-time data analysis.
The research draws from the actual demand analysis, developing a mobile application on the Android operating system. The application is an interaction application, and is added with some functions that are different from the existing one. The constructive research method was used to specify and analyze possible existing problem, in order to achieve a satisfactory result. Database concept was studied to construct database for the application. Usability studies were used to create graphical interfaces.
There were several tools used in the development. Android studio was utilized to create the Android development environment. Hierarchy viewer is a tool to examine and design the User Interface. The test tool Android Virtual Device Nexus 5 in Android studio was mainly used for program automatic testing. The outcome of this research is a practical and easy application that everyone is able to use. It includes basic function which is textual and audio explanation, and added functions which are online ticketing sale and online shop service
Character-level Chinese-English Translation through ASCII Encoding
Character-level Neural Machine Translation (NMT) models have recently
achieved impressive results on many language pairs. They mainly do well for
Indo-European language pairs, where the languages share the same writing
system. However, for translating between Chinese and English, the gap between
the two different writing systems poses a major challenge because of a lack of
systematic correspondence between the individual linguistic units. In this
paper, we enable character-level NMT for Chinese, by breaking down Chinese
characters into linguistic units similar to that of Indo-European languages. We
use the Wubi encoding scheme, which preserves the original shape and semantic
information of the characters, while also being reversible. We show promising
results from training Wubi-based models on the character- and subword-level
with recurrent as well as convolutional models.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 3rd Conference on Machine Translation (WMT18),

Transition metal oxides for high performance sodium ion battery anodes
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are attracting considerable attention with expectation of replacing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in large-scale energy storage systems (ESSs). To explore high performance anode materials for SIBs is highly desired subject to the current anode research mainly limited to carbonaceous materials. In this study, a series of transition metal oxides (TMOs) is successfully demonstrated as anodes for SIBs for the first time. The sodium uptake/extract is confirmed in the way of reversible conversion reaction. The pseudocapacitance-type behavior is also observed in the contribution of sodium capacity. For Fe2O3anode, a reversible capacity of 386 mAh g-1at 100 mA g-1 is achieved over 200 cycles; as high as 233 mAhg-1is sustained even cycling at a large current-density of 5 A g-1

Pattern formation in oscillatory complex networks consisting of excitable nodes
Oscillatory dynamics of complex networks has recently attracted great
attention. In this paper we study pattern formation in oscillatory complex
networks consisting of excitable nodes. We find that there exist a few center
nodes and small skeletons for most oscillations. Complicated and seemingly
random oscillatory patterns can be viewed as well-organized target waves
propagating from center nodes along the shortest paths, and the shortest loops
passing through both the center nodes and their driver nodes play the role of
oscillation sources. Analyzing simple skeletons we are able to understand and
predict various essential properties of the oscillations and effectively
modulate the oscillations. These methods and results will give insights into
pattern formation in complex networks, and provide suggestive ideas for
studying and controlling oscillations in neural networks.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
