O parcelamento das doses de lodo de 40 a 80 Mg ha-1 provocou, de modo geral, aumento das quantidades absorvidas de metais pelo milho, sendo o Fe e o Zn os elementos que mais se acumularam na planta em resposta a esse parcelamento.<br>Although the value of sewage sludge (SS) as a fertilizer has long been recognized, it is still a matter of considerable concern, in view of the danger of excessive heavy metal uptake by plants, whereby these elements gain entry into the food chain. From 1983 to 1987, a field experiment was carried out in a split block design with four replications to evaluate grain and dry matter yield and heavy metal uptake by corn (Zea mays L.) grown on a clay textured dystrophic Red Latosol amended with sewage sludge. SS was applied in single applications (at rates of 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 Mg ha-1) and split in two, three and four equal yearly applications (with a total dry matter of 40, 60 and 80 Mg ha-1, respectively), with and without liming. At the highest rate, 63, 3040, 25, and 152 kg ha-1 of Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn were applied, respectively. Grain and dry matter yield increased linearly to the SS applications during the years of observation. Zn contents in leaves and shoots increased significantly, while Fe and Mn concentrations decreased, and Cu was not affected by sludge application. The levels of all metals in corn grain were not significantly affected by sludge, in spite of reaching the highest tolerable levels, which do not entail restrictions for human consumption. Zn, Fe, and Mn uptake by corn was significantly reduced by liming. Split sludge applications caused a general increase of heavy metal uptake, especially of Fe and Zn

A pot experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using soil taken from a Red-Yellow Podzolic and sorghum as the test plant. The main objective of the experiment was to verify the following hypothesis: split application of phosphate fertilizer results in higher efficiency in the uptake of this nutrient by the plant.. The experiment was run from September 1983 till February 1984, a period in which high temperature prevails. The variables considered in this study were: date of liming, rates and forms of phosphate application1. Various levels of these factors were combined making up a total of 15 treatments for the second sorghum crop. The data collected were as follows, dry matter weight, contents of calcium, iron and aluminum phosphates of soil samples taken from each treatment. These data were statistically analysed at the CENA Computer Center. The following conclusions were drawn based on the experimental conditions and on the results obtained a. split application of phosphate led to a better use of phosphate fertilizer by the second sorghum crop. b. liming contributes to a better development of the plant which is enhanced by the application of phosphate fertilizer. c. limimg does not affect the availability of iron phosphoris d. there is an increase in the concentration of calcium phosphate due to lining and that increases with the rate of phosphorus application. e. the concentration of calcium linked to phosphates relates inversely to aluminum phosphate and to the yield of dry matter in the second sorghum crop

Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has had a major breakthrough with the impressive results obtained using systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has a huge potential in astrophysics, particle physics and cosmology. CTA is an international initiative to build the next generation instrument, with a factor of 5-10 improvement in sensitivity in the 100 GeV-10 TeV range and the extension to energies well below 100 GeV and above 100 TeV. CTA will consist of two arrays (one in the north, one in the south) for full sky coverage and will be operated as open observatory. The design of CTA is based on currently available technology. This document reports on the status and presents the major design concepts of CTA. © 2011 The Author(s)

Accessing the strong interaction between Λ baryons and charged kaons with the femtoscopy technique at the LHC

The interaction between Λ baryons and kaons/antikaons is a crucial ingredient for the strangeness S=0 and S=−2 sector of the meson–baryon interaction at low energies. In particular, the ΛK‾ might help in understanding the origin of states such as the Ξ(1620), whose nature and properties are still under debate. Experimental data on Λ–K and Λ–K‾ systems are scarce, leading to large uncertainties and tension between the available theoretical predictions constrained by such data. In this Letter we present the measurements of Λ–K⊕+Λ‾–K− and Λ–K⊕−Λ‾–K+ correlations obtained in the high-multiplicity triggered data sample in pp collisions at s=13 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The correlation function for both pairs is modeled using the Lednický–Lyuboshits analytical formula and the corresponding scattering parameters are extracted. The Λ–K⊕−Λ‾–K+ correlations show the presence of several structures at relative momenta k⁎ above 200 MeV/c, compatible with the Ω baryon, the Ξ(1690), and Ξ(1820) resonances decaying into Λ–K− pairs. The low k⁎ region in the Λ–K⊕−Λ‾–K+ also exhibits the presence of the Ξ(1620) state, expected to strongly couple to the measured pair. The presented data allow to access the ΛK+ and ΛK− strong interaction with an unprecedented precision and deliver the first experimental observation of the Ξ(1620) decaying into ΛK−

International audienceThe ALICE Collaboration reports three measurements in ultraperipheral proton-lead collisions at forward rapidity. The exclusive two-photon process γγ→μ+μ- and the exclusive photoproduction of J/ψ are studied. J/ψ photoproduction with proton dissociation is measured for the first time at a hadron collider. The cross section for the two-photon process of dimuons in the invariant mass range from 1 to 2.5  GeV/c2 agrees with leading-order quantum electrodynamics calculations. The exclusive and dissociative cross sections for J/ψ photoproductions are measured for photon-proton center-of-mass energies from 27 to 57 GeV. They are in good agreement with HERA results
