Current-voltage relation for superconducting d-wave junctions
We calculate the current-voltage (I-V) relation for planar superconducting
d-wave junctions for both arbitrary transmission of the junction and arbitrary
orientation of the d-wave superconductors. The midgap states (MGS) present at
interfaces/surfaces of a d-wave superconductor influence the I-V relation. In
some arrangements we find considerable negative differential conductance and
lower threshold voltage for non-zero current due to resonant conduction through

Between Naturalism and Theism: Johnston and Putnam on the Reality of God
The essay compares mark Johnston’s and Hilary Putnam’s approaches to the philosophy of religion in the framework of Charles Taylor’s claim that in modernity ”intermediate positions’ between theism and naturalism become increasingly attractive for a growing amount of people. both authors show that intermediate positions between naturalism and theism are conceptually plausible without having to deny that the conflicting worldviews are about a mind-independent reality. Johnston bridges the gap between naturalism and theism by developing a panentheistic worldview, Putnam denies the necessity of bridging it by choosing an attitude toward the world that allows for the coexistence of at least partly incommensurable conceptualizations of what there is. In both cases the conceptual exploration of intermediate positions is fed by the authors’ commitment to intellectual integrity in coming to terms with the tension between scientific explanation and religious interpretation in the age of applied sciences

We consider stable representations of non-Dynkin quivers with respect to a
central charge. On one condition the existence of a stable representation with
self-extensions implies the existence of infinitely many stables without
self-extensions. In this case the phases of the stable representations approach
one or two limit points. In particular, the phases are not dense in two arcs
Decay of DNLS breathers through inelastic multiphonon scattering
We consider the long-time evolution of weakly perturbed discrete nonlinear
Schroedinger breathers. While breather growth can occur through nonlinear
interaction with one single initial linear mode, breather decay is found to
require excitation of at least two independent modes. All growth and decay
processes of lowest order are found to disappear for breathers larger than a
