Efeito da temperatura na germinação de sementes de vigna, feijoeiro e soja
This experiment was carried out to study the effects of the temperatures of 14, 21 and 28°C on germination of three cultivars of Vigna unguiculata, Phaseolus vulgaris and Glycine max. The seeds where germinated on Petri dishes provided with cotton and filter paper, maintained in incubator with high humidity. The Petri dishes were maintained under controlled temperature conditions. Higher germination was observed at 21°C in relation to temperatures of 14 and 28°C, for Vigna, bean and soybean cultivars. Best germination were showed by 'Carioca' and 'Goiano Precoce' beans, followed by 'Rosinha' bean, 'EPACE 1' Vigna and 'Davis' soybean at 21°C. Vigna cultivars adapted to high temperatures presented problems for germination at 14°C. Normaly velocity of hypocotyl emergence was lower tham velocity of radicle emergence.
A critical analysis of the sanitization strategies on root canal cleaning
Objective: To assess the efficacy of irrigant solutions used in endodontic treatment in terms of cleanliness, smear layer removal and tissue dissolving potency by means of a systematic review of longitudinal studies. Method: Articles were identified in electronic bibliographies accessible via MEDLINE. Searches were run on the PubMed Database (http://www.ncbi.nlm. nih.gov/PubMed) for articles published from 1966 to January 10, 2012, using combinations of the following keywords: (Endodontic or root canal) and (Smear layer or clean* or tissue dissolution or organic dissolution) and (irrigants or NaOCl or sodium hypochlorite or Milton Solution or Dakin solution or Labarraque solution or chlorinated soda or chlorine or chloride or hypoclean or hypochlor or niclor or Chlor-xtra or chlorhexidine or chx or cloreximid or peridex or periogard or EDTA or Acid or citric or acetic or peracetic or malic or vinegar or citrate or Hydrogen peroxide or H2O2 or Iodine or iodide or povidone or povidine or PVP or Ozone or ozonated or MTAD or Tetraclean or Endoptc or Rc prep or Morinda citrifolia or Aquatine or hydroxyethylcellulose or cat’s claw or propolis). Studies were assessed for inclusion and exclusion criteria by two independent examiners. Results: The search returned 817 articles. Four (04) studies met the preestablished inclusion criteria and not the exclusion criteria. Teeth were assessed histologically at points 1, 2 and 3 mm from the root apex. Sodium hypochlorite at 5.25% and 6% was the only irrigating solution for which there is scientific evidence of root wall cleaning activity. Conclusions: Addition of ultrasound improved the cleaning potency of irrigant solutions. Isthmus regions had the lowest percentages of area free from debris
Associations between movement behaviours and obesity markers among preschoolers compliant and non-compliant with sleep duration:A latent profile analysis
This study identifies physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) clusters in preschoolers compliant (C) or non-compliant (NC) with sleep recommendations; and associates these clusters with obesity markers. PA and SB were objectively assessed (Actigraph WGT3-X) in 272 preschoolers (4.4 ± 0.7 years old). Sleep duration was parent-reported, and preschoolers were classified as C (3–4 years old: 600–780 min/day; 5 years old: 540–660 min/day) or NC with sleep recommendations. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were assessed according to international protocols. Moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and light physical activity (LPA) were categorized as low/high (60 min/day or <180 min/180 min/day, respectively). SB was defined according to mean values between clusters. Latent profile analysis was performed. Associations between the observed clusters and obesity markers were determined using linear regression (RStudio; 1.3.1073). Four cluster solutions for C and NC preschoolers were identified. A negative association between C/Low MVPA cluster and BMI, and a positive association between NC/Low MVPA and BMI (β = −0.8, 95%CI = −1.6;−0.1, and β = 0.9, 95%CI = 0.1;1.7, respectively) were observed. No association was seen for SB clusters. Adequate sleep duration may have a protective role for preschoolers’ BMI, even if the children do not comply with MVPA recommendations
Mefloquine–oxazolidine derivatives, derived from mefloquine and arenecarbaldehydes: In vitro activity including against the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis strain T113
AbstractTen new mefloquine–oxazolidine derivatives, 4-[(1S,8aR)-3-(aryl)hexahydro[1,3]oxazolo[3,4-a]pyridin-1-yl]-2,8-bis(trifluoromethyl)quinoline (1: aryl=substituted phenyl) and 4-[(1S,8aR)-3-(heteroaryl)hexahydro[1,3]oxazolo[3,4-a]pyridin-1-yl]-2,8-bis(trifluoromethyl)quinoline [2: heteroaryl=5-nitrothien-2-yl (2a); 5-nitrofuran-2-yl (2b) and 4H-imidazol-2-yl) (2c)], have been synthesized and evaluated against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Compounds 1f (aryl=3-ethoxyphenyl), 1g (Ar=3,4,5-(MeO)3-C6H2) and 2c were slightly more active than mefloquine (MIC=33μM) with MICs=24.5, 22.5 and 27.4, respectively, whereas compounds 1e (aryl=3,4-(MeO)2-C6H3) and 2a (MICs=11.9 and 12.1μM, respectively) were ca. 2.7 times more active than mefloquine, with a better tuberculostatic activity than the first line tuberculostatic agent ethambutol (MIC=15.9). The compounds were also assayed against the MDR strain T113 and the same MICs were observed. Thus the new derivatives have advantages over such anti-TB drugs as isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol and ofloxacin, for which this strain is resistant. The most active compounds were not cytotoxic to Murine Macrophages Cells in a concentration near their MIC values
