Proposed relationship of TQM and organisational performance using structured equation modelling

    Get PDF
Total quality management (TQM) has been considered as an infrastructural strategy in the operations management research field. It is one of the most recognised models for operational excellence besides lean operation, supply chain management, and technology management. Both manufacturing and service organisations tend to implement this strategy in order to maintain their competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to develop the conceptual model of TQM implementation in relation to organisational performance. The authors have reviewed the literature on TQM and organised the paper along two main themes: the evolution of TQM considered as a set of practices, and its impacts on organisational performance. Two research questions are proposed in order to re-validate TQM constructs: (1) Is the set of practices associated with TQM valid as a whole? (2) What performance measures should be considered to exhibit the effectiveness of its implementation

A developed systematic literature review procedure with application in the field of digital transformation

This paper aims to make a methodological contribution to the systematic review method for business and social science research and to implement the proposed procedure in the field of digital transformation. In this article, we reviewed the systematic reviews found in the literature on bibliometric analysis and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines in several databases, namely Scopus, Web of Science, SpringerLink Journal, and Google Scholar, in addition to systematic literature searches on digital transformation in the fields of business and social sciences available in the Scopus database. We also combined the bibliometric analysis, PRISMA model, and software analysis to establish filters that support authors in identifying relevant literature to facilitate and improve the extraction, visualisation, and analysis of data. The developed method consisted of four stages: research design, data collection, data analysis, and visualisation. The proposed systematic review process and its application presented in this paper provide an effective process for systematic literature review in the field of business and social science. A notable contribution of this study is the inclusion of the developed PRISMA guidelines in the bibliometric standard workflow and the expansion in the use and application of analysis software

Utilitarian and hedonic information systems in social networking sites: the effect on e-satisfaction and word-of-mouth

    No full text
The original Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) views Perceived Ease of Use (PEoU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) of utilitarian information system as the contributing factors to users behavior on technology acceptance. However, the nature of social networking sites (SNSs) such as Facebook, which are pleasure-oriented, requires the inclusion of Perceived Enjoyment (PE) of hedonic information system as additional factor in this research framework. Therefore, this research attempts to investigate the effects of utilitarian (PEoU and PU) and hedonic (PE) aspects of information system on two important success factors of online service providers such as SNSs, which are e-Satisfaction (eSAT) and word-of-mouth (WOM). Facebook has been selected as the particular SNSs referred to in this research because of its high popularity among young SNSs users. A total of 384 respondents age between 18–24 years old have participated in this research through online questionnaire survey. The results confirmed the importance of pleasure orientation in the usage of Facebook of SNSs, which can be evidenced through the finding of the study that shows PE of hedonic information system has greater effect on eSAT, compared to PEoU and PE of utilitarian information system. In addition, the results suggest that PEOU has positive effects on PU and PE, while eSAT has been found to be positively affected WOM. Managerial and theoretical implications of the study are discussed in term of measuring and enhancing users’ eSAT in the usage of SNSs, particularly Facebook

Acceptance of internet banking systems among young managers

The aim of this paper is to determine acceptance of internet banking system among potential young users, specifically future young managers. The relationships and the effects of computer self-efficacy (CSE) and extended technology acceptance model (TAM) on the behavioural intention (BI) to use internet banking system were examined. Measurement of CSE, TAM and BI were adapted from previous studies. However construct for TAM has been extended by adding a new variable which is perceived credibility (PC). A survey through questionnaire was conducted to determine the acceptance level of CSE, TAM and BI. Data were obtained from 275 Technology Management students, who are pursuing their undergraduate studies in a Malaysia's public university. The confirmatory factor analysis performed has identified four variables as determinant factors of internet banking acceptance. The first variable is computer self-efficacy (CSE), and another three variables from TAM constructs which are perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PE) and perceived credibility (PC). The finding of this study indicated that CSE has a positive effect on PU and PE of the Internet banking systems. Respondents' CSE was positively affecting their PC of the systems, indicating that the higher the ability of one in computer skills, the higher the security and privacy issues of PC will be concerned. The multiple regression analysis indicated that only two construct of TAM; PU and PC were significantly associated with BI. It was found that the future managers' CSE indirectly affects their BI to use the internet banking systems through PU and PC of TAM. TAM was found to have direct effects on respondents' BI to use the systems. Both CSE and the PU and PC of TAM were good predictors in understanding individual responses to information technology. The role of PE of the original TAM to predict the attitude of users towards the use of information technology systems was surprisingly insignificant

The development of e-commerce has increased the popularity of online shopping worldwide. In Malaysia, it was reported that online shopping market size was RM1.8 billion in 2013 and it is estimated to reach RM5 billion by 2015. However, online shopping was rated 11th out of 15 purposes of using internet in 2012. Consumers' perceived risks of online shopping becomes a hot topic to research as it will directly influence users' attitude towards online purchasing, and their attitude will have significant impact to the online purchasing behaviour. The conceptualization of consumers' perceived risk, attitude and online shopping behaviour of this study provides empirical evidence in the study of consumer online behaviour. Four types of risks-product risk, financial, convenience and non-delivery risks-were examined in term of their effect on consumers' online attitude. A web-based survey was employed, and a total of 300 online shoppers of a Malaysia largest online marketplace participated in this study. The findings indicated that product risk, financial and non-delivery risks are hazardous and negatively affect the attitude of online shoppers. Convenience risk was found to have positive effect on consumers' attitude, denoting that online buyers of this site trusted the online seller and they encountered less troublesome with the site. It also implies that consumers did not really concern on non-convenience aspect of online shopping, such as handling of returned products and examine the quality of products featured in the online seller website. The online buyers' attitude was significantly and positively affects their online purchasing behaviour. The findings provide useful model for measuring and managing consumers' perceived risk in internet-based transaction to increase their involvement in online shopping and to reduce their cognitive dissonance in the e-commerce settin

Presently, all organizations are facing by various types of risk. The risk can be occurred anywhere and to anyone. Therefore, they need to manage risk properly to reduce cost and other consequences. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) was introduced many years ago and currently implemented by many countries as well as organizations due to positive impact especially in their performances. In Malaysia, it was first implemented around ten years ago and the organizations are recommended to use it as a tool or basis to recover any potential risks. There are many factors drive to ERM adoption in organizations that gave big impact on their performances. A part of that, the aim of this paper is to construct a conceptual framework that describes the relationship between factors or drivers to ERM adoption and ERM impact on performance. This relationship will moderate by two other factors which are quality of Board of Directors (BOD) and quality of internal audit. The area of this paper will be focus on Malaysian Public Higher Educational Institution (IPTA) which is only five institutions will be selected as respondents. The selection of these institutions was made based on top five ranking university in Malaysia. The potential respondents among higher and middle level management were identified and they will answer a set of questionnaire and the data will be analyze using Statistical Package for Science Social (SPSS) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The expected finding from this paper is there are positive significant relationship between both independent and dependent variables moderated by both parties which is BOD and internal audit
