    Systems View of Coronavirus

No one envisioned the kinds of problems that emerged from the novel coronavirus nor had anyone considered its interactive scope. Now is the time to begin to redesign our processes and systems so that when confronted again we can cope and navigate better. Everyone needs to be a partner in these redesigns and each of the health, social, educational, and other systems must be integrated because it is their interconnections that coproduce and give meaning to our lives

    Possible f-wave superconductivity in Sr2_2RuO4_4?

Until recently it has been believed that the superconductivity in Sr2_2RuO4_4 is described by p-wave pairing. However, both the recent specific heat and the magnetic penetration depth measurements on the purest single crystals of Sr2_2RuO4_4 appear to be explained more consistently in terms of f-wave superconductivity. In order to further this hypothesis, we study theoretically the thermodynamics and thermal conductivity of f-wave superconductors in a planar magnetic field. We find the simple expressions for these quantities when H≪Hc2H \ll H_{c2} and T≪TcT \ll T_{c}, which should be readily accessible experimentally.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

Critical Current of the Spin-Triplet Superconducting Phase in Sr2_2RuO4_4

There have been two different proposals for the spin-triplet order parameter of the superconducting phase in Sr2_2RuO4_4; an ff-wave order parameter and the multigap model where some of the bands have the line node. In an effort to propose an experiment that can distinguish two cases, we study the behavior of the supercurrent and compute the critical current for these order parameters when the sample is a thin film with the thickness d≪ξd \ll \xi where ξ\xi is the coherence length. It is found that the supercurrent behaves very differently in two models. This will serve as a sharp test for the identification of the correct order parameter.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

Mass measurement in boosted decay systems at hadron colliders

We report a new possibility of using the \mct2 (Constransverse mass) variable for mass measurement in single step decay chains involving missing particles with moderate transverse momentum. We show that its experimental feasibility is enhanced compared to the corresponding \mt2-kink method. We apply this method to reconstruct a pair of chargino decay chains.Comment: 6 pages, 12 figures, published in PRD, http://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevD.84.03501
