Vanishing chiral couplings in the large-N_C resonance theory
The construction of a resonance theory involving hadrons requires
implementing the information from higher scales into the couplings of the
effective Lagrangian. We consider the large-Nc chiral resonance theory
incorporating scalars and pseudoscalars, and we find that, by imposing LO
short-distance constraints on form factors of QCD currents constructed within
this theory, the chiral low-energy constants satisfy resonance saturation at

Determination of biosorption mechanism in biomass of agave, using spectroscopic and microscopic techniques for the purification of contaminated water
[Abstract] Lead (Pb2+) and copper (Cu2+) are polluting metals due to their toxicity; however, the extraction of these metals is essential for economic development, so it is important to look for efficient and low-cost alternatives that can remove heavy metals from the various bodies of water. One of the alternatives used in this work is biosorption, for which an agroindustrial waste (epidermis from Agave atrovirens) was used to evaluate the affinity of removal of lead and copper in aqueous solutions; in addition, spectroscopy and microscopy techniques were used to elucidate and corroborate the removal and affinity capacity of the agave epidermis for both metals studied. The optimal pH value for the removal of both metals was 3. The adsorption isotherms yielded a qmax of 25.7 and 8.6 mg/g for lead and copper, respectively. Adjusting to the Langmuir-Freundlich model, the adsorption kinetics were pseudo-second order, and it was found that the equilibrium time was at 140 min. The spectroscopy and microscopy analyses corroborated the affinity between metals and functional groups of the agave, as well as with the elemental analysis, which reported 17.38% of lead and 4.25% of copper.[Resumen] El plomo (Pb2+) y el cobre (Cu2+) son metales contaminantes debido a su toxicidad; sin embargo, la extracción de estos metales es indispensable para el desarrollo económico, por lo que es importante buscar alternativas eficientes y de bajo costo que puedan remover metales pesados de los diversos cuerpos de agua. Una de las alternativas utilizadas en este trabajo es la biosorción, para la cual se utilizó un residuo agroindustrial (epidermis de Agave atrovirens), para evaluar la afinidad de remoción del plomo y cobre en soluciones acuosas; adicionalmente, se emplearon técnicas de espesctroscopía y microscopía que permitieron elucidar y corroborar la capacidad de remoción y afinidad que tuvo la epidermis de A. atrovirens para ambos metales estudiados. El valor óptimo de pH para la remoción de ambos metales fue 3. Las isotermas de adsorción arrojaron una qmax de 25.7 y 8.6 mg/g para el plomo y cobre, respectivamente. Ajustando al modelo de Langmuir-Freundlich, las cinéticas de adsorción resultaron de pseudo-segundo orden, se encontró que el tiempo de equilibrio es a los 140 min. Spectral functions for medium-sized nuclei
The spectral functions for calcium and argon are constructed. It is verified
that their predictions for the quasielastic electron-nucleus cross sections in
the energy range ~1 GeV agree with the data. The argon spectral function is

Effects of quark family nonuniversality in SU(3)_c X SU(4)_L X U(1)_x models
Flavour changing neutral currents arise in the extension of the standard model because anomaly cancellation among the
fermion families requires one generation of quarks to transform differently
from the other two under the gauge group. In the weak basis the distinction
between quark families is meaningless. However, in the mass eigenstates basis,
the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing matrix motivates us to classify
left-handed quarks in families. In this sense there are, in principle, three
different assignments of quark weak eigenstates into mass eigenstates. In this
work, by using measurements at the Z-pole, atomic parity violation data and
experimental input from neutral meson mixing, we examine two different models
without exotic electric charges based on the 3-4-1 symmetry, and address the
effects of quark family nonuniversality on the bounds on the mixing angle
between two of the neutral currents present in the models and on the mass
scales and of the new neutral gauge bosons predicted by the
theory. The heaviest family of quarks must transform differently in order to
keep lower bounds on and as low as possible without

The Sustainable Development Goal 4 and the Impact Ranking: Quality education in Portuguese higher education institutions
Sustainability based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is currently a relevant
dimension for the competitiveness of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Portuguese HEIs will have, therefore, to adapt to the demands of the times and follow the Sustainable Development practices.
Therefore, Quality Education is, then, a factor that allows HEIs to have competitive advantages, given that Education is a critical success factor for these institutions.
Through a qualitative analysis of articles on the theme of Sustainability in Higher Education and
the THE Impact Ranking platform, we tried to understand the impact that SDG 4 - Quality of Education has on Portuguese Higher Education Institutions, registered on this platform from 2019 to 2022.
The main conclusion is that SDG 4 does not seem to be considered yet by Portuguese HEIs as a distinctive factor to obtain competitive advantage in the universe of HEIs.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Co-evolution of strategy and structure in complex networks with dynamical linking
Here we introduce a model in which individuals differ in the rate at which
they seek new interactions with others, making rational decisions modeled as
general symmetric two-player games. Once a link between two individuals has
formed, the productivity of this link is evaluated. Links can be broken off at
different rates. We provide analytic results for the limiting cases where
linking dynamics is much faster than evolutionary dynamics and vice-versa, and
show how the individual capacity of forming new links or severing inconvenient
ones maps into the problem of strategy evolution in a well-mixed population
under a different game. For intermediate ranges, we investigate numerically the
detailed interplay determined by these two time-scales and show that the scope
of validity of the analytical results extends to a much wider ratio of time
scales than expected
On-site full-scale tests of a timber queen-post truss
On-site tests were performed on an existing traditional timber truss. The main goal of the tests was to evaluate the overall behavior of the timber truss under symmetric and non-symmetric vertical loading. Moreover, the influence of the location of the point loads application was assessed, with and without eccentricity relatively to the joints. The loading tests were preceded by a visual and non-destructive inspection aimed at collecting geometric data and assessing the level of decay of each member. The field tests results of a queen-post truss are presented and analyzed. A numerical model was developed to reproduce and analyze the test results
