Telemetric angle and position sensing using millimeter-wave metamaterial and a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) chip
We present a fully telemetric sensor concept for angle and position measurement. It is based on single-layer millimeter-wave metamaterials that exhibit an anisotropic resonant behavior in interaction with incident electromagnetic waves. The angle of rotation is determined from the reflected millimeter waves of the metamaterial target using a millimeter wave chip transceiver. We use a metamaterial geometry exhibiting anisotropic Fano-type resonant behavior. The Fano-type resonance shows a distinct minimum in the reflection spectrum, even with a single layer of metamaterial. The metamaterial target is manufactured on a printed circuit board (PCB) laminate with low-cost standard manufacturing methods. We present an analytical model estimating the resonance frequency of the metamaterial used. The model allows us to assess whether with the Fano-type metamaterial unit cell structure resonance frequencies in the millimeter wave regime are achievable and compliant with standard PCB manufacturing design rules. We performed proof-of-principle experiments with the metamaterial targets and a vector network analyzer, assisted by a detailed analysis of the sensor effect by means of finite-element method calculations. Finally, we implemented a demonstrator setup containing a state-of-the-art frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar chip and a metamaterial target manufactured with standard PCB manufacturing processes.</p
The BCS critical temperature in a weak external electric field via a linear two-body operator
We study the critical temperature of a superconductive material in a weak
external electric potential via a linear approximation of the BCS functional.
We reproduce a similar result as in [Frank, Hainzl, Seiringer, Solovej, 2016]
using the strategy introduced in [Frank, Hainzl, Langmann, 2018], where we
considered the case of an external constant magnetic field.Comment: Dedicated to Herbert Spohn on the occasion of his seventieth

The BCS Critical Temperature in a Weak External Electric Field via a Linear Two-Body Operator

We reproduce a similar result as in Frank et al. (Commun Math Phys 342(1):189–216, 2016, [5]) using the strategy introduced in Frank et al. Coupled CDW and SDW Fluctuations as an Origin of Anomalous Properties of Ferromagnetic Superconductor UGe_2
It is shown that anomalous properties of UGe_2 can be understood in a unified
way on the basis of a single assumption that the superconductivity is mediated
by the coupled SDW and CDW fluctuations induced by the imperfect nesting of the
Fermi surface with majority spins at T=T_x(P) deep in the ferromagnetic phase.
Excess growth of uniform magnetization is shown to develop in the temperature
range T<T_x(P) as a mode-coupling effect of coupled growth of SDW and CDW
orderings, which has been observed by two different types of experiments. The
coupled CDW and SDW fluctuations are shown to be essentially ferromagnetic spin
fluctuations which induce a spin-triplet p-wave attraction. These fluctuations
consist of two modes, spin and charge fluctuations with large momentum transfer
of the nesting vector. An anomalous temperature dependence of the upper
critical field H_c2(T) such as crossing of H_c2(T) at P=11.4 kbar and P=13.5
kbar, can be understood by the strong-coupling-superconductivity formalism.
Temperature dependence of the lattice specific heat including a large shoulder
near T_x is also explained quite well as an effect of a kind of Kohn anomaly
associated with coupled SDW-CDW transition.Comment: (12 pages, 10 eps figures) submitted to J. Phys. Soc. Jp
