    Measurement of correlated μ−overlineb\mu - {overline b} jet cross sections in ppˉp {\bar p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV

    We report on measurements of differential μ−bˉ\mu - {\bar b} cross sections, where the muon is from a semi-leptonic bb decay and the bˉ{\bar b} is identified using precision track reconstruction in jets. The semi-differential correlated cross sections, dσ\sigma/d\Et^{{\bar b}}, dσ\sigma/d\pt^{{\bar b}}, and dσ\sigma/dδϕ(μ−bˉ)\delta\phi(\mu - {\bar b}) for \pt^{\mu}>~9 GeV/c, ∣ημ∣|\eta^{\mu}|~10 GeV, ∣ηbˉ∣<|\eta^{{\bar b}}|<~1.5, are presented and compared to next-to-leading order QCD calculations.Comment: Uses Latex, Article 12 point, figures appended as uuencoded file The full PostScript available via WWW at http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/physics/pub95/cdf3164_mu_bbar_prd_final.p

    Measurement of the BB Meson Differential Cross Section, dσ/dpTd\sigma/dp_T, in ppˉp\bar{p} Collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV

    This paper presents the first direct measurement of the BB meson differential cross section, dσ/dpTd\sigma/dp_T, in ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using a sample of 19.3±0.719.3 \pm 0.7 pb−1^{-1} accumulated by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The cross section is measured in the central rapidity region ∣y∣6.0|y| 6.0 GeV/cc by fully reconstructing the BB meson decays B+→J/ψK+B^{+}\to J/\psi K^{+} and B0→J/ψK∗0(892)B^{0}\to J/\psi K^{*0}(892), where J/ψ→μ+μ−J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^- and K∗0→K+π−K^{*0} \to K^+ \pi^-.     The Charge Asymmetry in W-Boson Decays Produced in p-pbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV

    The charge asymmetry has been measured using 19,039 W19,039~W decays recorded by the CDF detector during the 1992-93 run of the Tevatron Collider. The asymmetry is sensitive to the ratio of dd and uu quark distributions to x<0.01x<0.01 at Q2≈MW2Q^2 \approx M_W^2, where nonperturbative effects are minimal. It is found that of the two current sets of parton distributions, those of Martin, Roberts and Stirling (MRS) are favored over the sets most recently produced by the CTEQ collaboration. The WW asymmetry data provide a stronger constraints on d/ud/u ratio than the recent measurements of F2μn/F2μpF_2^{\mu n}/F_2^{\mu p} which are limited by uncertainties originating from deutron corrections.Comment: to be published in PR

    Limits on WWZWWZ and WWγWW\gamma couplings from WWWW and WZWZ production in pp‾p\overline{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV

    Direct limits are set on WWZWWZ and WWγWW\gamma three-boson couplings in a search for WWWW and WZWZ production with high transverse momentum in pp‾p\overline{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The results are in agreement with the SU(2) ×\times U(1) model of electroweak interactions. Assuming Standard Model WWγWW\gamma coupling, the the limits are interpreted as direct evidence for a non-zero WWZWWZ coupling at subprocess energies near 500 GeV. Alternatively, assumiong identical WWZWWZ and WWγWW\gamma couplings, bounds −0.11<κ<2.27-0.11 < \kappa < 2.27 and −0.81<λ<0.84-0.81 < \lambda < 0.84 are obtained at 95%95\% CL for a form factor scale 1000 GeV.Comment: 16 pages, submitted to PRL, URL: http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/physics/pub95/cdf2951_vvprl.p

    OBSERVATION OF THE DECAY B(S)0-]J-PSI-PHI IN (P)OVER-BAR-P COLLISIONS AT ROOT-S = 1.8 TEV

    none355This Letter reports the observation and mass measurement of fully reconstructed B(s)0 mesons through the decay chain B(s)0 --> J/psiphi, J/psi --> mu+mu-, phi --> K+K- using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in ppBAR collisions at square-root s = 1.8 TeV. A signal of 14.0 +/- 4.7 events is observed. Comparison of the B(s)0 signal with the kinematically similar decays B+ --> J/psiK+ and B0 --> J/psiK*(892)0 is presented.     none413We have searched for the rare decay W-+/- --> pi(+/-) + gamma in 16.7 pb(-1) of data taken in proton-antiproton collisions at root s = 1.8 TeV with the CDF detector at Fermilab. We find one event consistent with subtraction, we find the ratio of partial widths to be Gamma(W-+/- --> pi(+/-) + gamma)/Gamma(W-+/- --> e(+/-) + nu) less than or equal to 2.0 X 10(-3) at the 95% confidence level.noneF.     MEASUREMENT OF THE RATIO SIGMA-B(W-]E-NU)/SIGMA-B(Z(0)-]E+E-) IN P(OVER-BAR)-P COLLISIONS AT ROOT-S=1.8-TEV

    We present a measurement of the ratio sigmaB(W --> eupsilon)/sigmaB(Z0 --> e+e-) in ppBAR collisions at square-root s = 1.8 TeV. The data represent an integrated luminosity of 21.7 pb-1 from the 1992-1993 run of the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We find sigmaB(W --> eupsilon)/sigmaB(Z0 --> e+e-) = 10.90 +/- 0.32(stat) +/- 0.29(syst). From this value, we extract a value for the W width, GAMMA(W) = 2.064 +/- 0.061(stat) +/- 0.059(syst) GeV, and the branching ratio, GAMMA(W --> eupsilon)/GAMMA(W) = 0.1094 +/- 0.0033(stat) +/- 0.0031(syst), and we set a decay-mode-independent limit on the top quark mass m(top) > 62 GeV/c2 at the 95% C.L

    MEASUREMENT OF THE POLARIZATION IN THE DECAYS B-D-]J/PSI-K-(ASTERISK-0) AND BS-]J/PSI-PHI

    This Letter reports on measurements of the longitudinal polarization fractions in the decays B-d --> J/psi K*(0) and B-s --> J/psi phi using data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. B-d mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain B-d --> J/psi K*(0), J/psi --> mu(+)mu(-), K*(0) --> K(+)phi(-). A sample of 65 +/- 10 B-d events is used to obtain a longitudinal polarization fraction of T-L/Gamma = 0.65 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.04(syst). B-s mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain B-s --> J/psi phi, J/psi --> mu(+)mu(-), phi --> K+K-. A sample of 19 +/- 5 B-s events is used to obtain the result Gamma(L)/Gamma = 0.56 +/- 0.21(stat)-(+0.02)(0.04)(syst)

    This Letter describes a direct measurement of the W boson decay width, Γ(W), using the high-mass tail of the transverse mass spectrum of W→eν decays recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We findΓ(W)=2.11±0.28(stat)±0.16(syst) GeV and compare this direct measurement with indirect means of obtaining the width. © 1995 The American Physical Society
