    Semi-fermionic representation of SU(N) Hamiltonians

We represent the generators of the SU(N) algebra as bilinear combinations of Fermi operators with imaginary chemical potential. The distribution function, consisting of a minimal set of discrete imaginary chemical potentials, is found for arbitrary N. This representation leads to the conventional temperature diagram technique with standard Feynman codex, except that the Matsubara frequencies are determined by neither integer nor half-integer numbers. The real-time Schwinger-Keldysh formalism is formulated in the framework of complex distribution functions. We discuss the continuous large N and SU(2) large spin limits. We illustrate the application of this technique for magnetic and spin-liquid states of the Heisenberg model.Comment: 11 pages, 7 EPS figures included, extended versio

Vibration-induced Kondo tunneling through metal-organic complexes with even electron occupation number

We investigate transport through a mononuclear transition-metal complex with strong tunnel coupling to two electrodes. The ground state of this molecule is a singlet while the first excited state is a triplet. We show that a modulation of the tunnel-barrier due to a molecular distortion which couples to the tunneling induces a Kondo-effect, provided the discrete vibrational energy compensates the singlet/triplet gap. We discuss the single-phonon and two-phonon assisted co-tunneling and possible experimental realization of the theory.Comment: 4 pages, 3 eps figure

    Particle decay in false vacuum

We revisit the problem of decay of a metastable vacuum induced by the presence of a particle. For the bosons of the `master field' the problem is solved in any number of dimensions in terms of the spontaneous decay rate of the false vacuum, while for a fermion we find a closed expression for the decay rate in (1+1) dimensions. It is shown that in the (1+1) dimensional case an infrared problem of one-loop correction to the decay rate of a boson is resolved due to a cancellation between soft modes of the field. We also find the boson decay rate in the `sine-Gordon staircase' model in the limits of strong and weak coupling.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figure

    Physics of B_c mesons

    Get PDF
In the framework of potential models for heavy quarkonium the mass spectrum for the system (bˉc\bar b c) is considered. Spin-dependent splittings, taking into account a change of a constant for effective coulomb interaction between the quarks, and widths of radiative transitions between the (bˉc\bar b c) levels are calculated. In the framework of QCD sum rules, masses of the lightest vector Bc∗B_c^* and pseudoscalar BcB_c states are estimated, scaling relation for leptonic constants of heavy quarkonia is derived, and the leptonic constant fBcf_{B_c} is evaluated. The BcB_c decays are considered in the framework of both the potential models and the QCD sum rules, where the significance of Coulomb-like corrections is shown. The relations, following from the approximate spin symmetry for the heavy quarks in the heavy quarkonium, are analysed for the form factors of the semileptonic weak exclusive decays of BcB_c. The BcB_c lifetime is evaluated with the account of the corrections to the spectator mechanism of the decay, because of the quark binding into the meson. The total and differential cross sections of the BcB_c production in different interactions are calculated. The analytic expressions for the fragmentational production cross sections of BcB_c are derived. The possibility of the practical BcB_c search in the current and future experiments at electron-positron and hadron colliders is analysed.Comment: 81 page, latex, ihep.sty is required and attached in the end of the file after \end{document}, figures are not availabl

Phonon-assisted and magnetic field induced Kondo tunneling in single molecular devices

We consider the Kondo tunneling induced by multiphonon emission/absorption processes in magnetic molecular complexes with low-energy singlet-triplet spin gap and show that the number of assisting phonons may be changed by varying the Zeeman splitting of excited triplet state. As a result, the structure of multiphonon Kondo resonances may be scanned by means of magnetic field tuning.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. Multiferroic BiFeO3-BiMnO3 Nanocheckerboard From First Principles

We present a first principles study of an unusual heterostructure, an atomic-scale checkerboard of BiFeO3-BiMnO3, and compare its properties to the two bulk constituent materials, BiFeO3 and BiMnO3. The "nanocheckerboard" is found to have a multiferroic ground state with the desired properties of each constituent: polar and ferrimagnetic due to BiFeO3 and BiMnO3, respectively. The effect of B-site cation ordering on magnetic ordering in the BiFeO3-BiMnO3 system is studied. The checkerboard geometry is seen to give rise to a a novel magnetostructural effect that is neither present in the bulk constituent materials, nor in the layered BiFeO3-BiMnO3 superlattice.Comment: 15 pages, 14 figure

Two-particle decays of B_c meson into charmonium states

The factorization of hard and soft contributions into the hadronic decays of B_c meson at large recoils is explored in order to evaluate the decay rates into the S, P and D-wave charmonia associated with rho and pi. The constraints of approach applicability and uncertainties of numerical estimates are discussed. The mode with the J/psi in the final state is evaluated taking into account the cascade radiative electromagnetic decays of excited P-wave states, that enlarges the branching ratio by 20-25%.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX axodraw-style, 1 figure, 2 table

One-Loop Corrections to Bubble Nucleation Rate at Finite Temperature

We present an evaluation of the 1-loop prefactor in the lifetime of a metastable state which decays at finite temperature by bubble nucleation. Such a state is considered in one-component phi^4 model in three space dimensions. The calculation serves as a prototype application of a fast numerical method for evaluating the functional determinants that appear in semiclassical approximations.Comment: DO-TH-93/18, 15 pages, 11 Figures available on request, LaTeX, no macros neede
