The world of travel: a comparative analysis of classification methods
In this paper we look at the ways leading Internet content providers such as Yahoo! and Google categorize travel-related web resources, and contrast their methods to an alternate scheme underlying the business-communication specification of the Open Travel Alliance. Our analysis reveals some inherent weaknesses in each approach to resource categorization and a need for a more comprehensive solution. In formulating a new classification scheme for travel resources we attempt to take advantage of the strengths and improve on the weaknesses of existing systems
Almost Block Diagonal Linear Systems: Sequential and Parallel Solution Techniques, and Applications
Almost block diagonal (ABD) linear systems arise in a variety of contexts, specifically in numerical methods for two-point boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations and in related partial differential equation problems. The stable, efficient sequential solution of ABDs has received much attention over the last fifteen years and the parallel solution more recently. We survey the fields of application with emphasis on how ABDs and bordered ABDs (BABDs) arise. We outline most known direct solution techniques, both sequential and parallel, and discuss the comparative efficiency of the parallel methods. Finally, we examine parallel iterative methods for solving BABD systems. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd
Inference on inspiral signals using LISA MLDC data
In this paper we describe a Bayesian inference framework for analysis of data
obtained by LISA. We set up a model for binary inspiral signals as defined for
the Mock LISA Data Challenge 1.2 (MLDC), and implemented a Markov chain Monte
Carlo (MCMC) algorithm to facilitate exploration and integration of the
posterior distribution over the 9-dimensional parameter space. Here we present
intermediate results showing how, using this method, information about the 9
parameters can be extracted from the data.Comment: Accepted for publication in Classical and Quantum Gravity, GWDAW-11
