    Binarization Technique on Historical Documents using Edge Width Detection

    Document images often suffer from different types of degradation that renders the document image binarization is a challenging task. Document image binarization is of great significance in the document image analysis and recognition process because it affects additional steps of the recognition development. The Comparison of image gradient and image contrast is estimated by the local maximum and minimum which has high quality. So, it is more tolerant to the rough lighting and other types of document degradation such as low contrast images and partially visible images. The distinction between the foreground text and the background text of different document images is a difficult task. This paper presents a new document image binarization technique that focus on these issues using adaptive image contrast. The grouping of the local image contrast and the local image slope is the adaptive image contrast so as to tolerate the text and surroundings distinction caused by dissimilar types of text degradations. In image binarization technique, the construction of adaptive contrast map is done for an input degraded document image which is then adaptively binarized and combined with Canny’s edge detector to recognize the text stroke edge pixels. The document text is advance segmented by means of a local threshold. We try to apply the self-training adaptive binarization approach on existing binarization methods, which improves not only the performance of existing binarization methods, but also the, toughness on different kinds of degraded document images.     Uraria picta: A comprehensive review on evidences of utilization and strategies of conservation

    Uraria picta (Jacq.) DC. (Prishnaparni) is one of the most important medicinal plants used in different traditional systems of medicines including the Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine. The major use of this plant was found in the most popular Ayurvedic formulation “Dashmula” and in several many other important Ayurvedic formulations. IUCN placed this woody herb in the least concern category as per version 3.1. It has extensive therapeutic uses and pharmacological activities. Though this plant is a source of many phytochemicals, the uses are uncertain because the raw plant parts or crude extracts are being used in all formulations. Therefore, extensive investigations are necessary to focus on the identification of these phytochemicals. It is an urgent need to give special attention to collecting various aspects and more efforts are required in all areas for utilization and conservation of this valuable medicinal herb. Herein, a compilation of all information with various aspects has been presented, including the authors published work on Uraria picta.     The effect of induction chemotherapy followed by chemoradiotherapy in advanced head and neck cancer: a prospective study

    Background:Objective of current study was to observe the local control, progression free survival and organ preservation for locally advanced head and neck cancer by using induction Chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy.Methods:102 patients enrolled in this study with stage III-IVB of head & neck cancer. Patients were assessed and treated by faculty of the department as per NCCN guidelines. Group A patients received three courses of cisplatin (100mg/m2) and paclitaxel (175mg/m2) at every 21 days interval followed by concurrent chemoradiothearpy with cisplatin 30mg/m2 on weekly basis while group B received only concurrent chemoradiothearpy. Radiotherapy consisted of total dose up to 66-70 Gy. by conventional fractionation schedule.Results:From August 2011 to July 2013, total 102 patients have completed 14 months of follow up after completing definitive treatment group A : 48 and group B: 54 patients. Response evaluation was done after one and half months of completion of chemoradiotherapy in both arms. Complete response rate was 60.42% and 38.88 % in study and control arm respectively while partial response was 72.92% and 55.56%. Most common grade III or IV toxicity was mucositis in group A and skin reaction in control arm. At a median follow-up 13 months the median progression free survival in group A was 11.5 months and 9 months in group B.Conclusion: Response to induction chemotherapy was useful as predictive factor for ultimate outcome and progression free survival. But our study shows statistically significant improvement in complete response rate in group A as compared to group B (p<0.05). Our induction chemotherapy with two-drug regimen followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy was well tolerated with manageable toxicity and good locoregional control.

    Greenhouse parameter monitoring and controlling system is basically designed to monitor and control various parameters of a greenhouse for efficient growth of plants. The system has been designed using Arduino, GSM, ZigBee and Sensors. The temperature, light and soil moisture sensors are used to measure the respective parameters of the greenhouse, further these measured values will be sent to Android app via GSM. As different plants require different moisture, by analyzing the values from the app the user can control the moisture by turning on the water pump via message to GSM.     Fingerprint recognition systems, as any other biometric system, can be subject to attacks, which are usually carried out using artificial fingerprints. Several approaches to discriminate between live and fake fingerprint images have been presented to address this issue. These methods usually rely on the analysis of individual features extracted from the fingerprint images. Such features represent different and complementary views of the object in analysis, and their fusion is likely to improve the classification accuracy. However, very little work in this direction has been reported in the literature.     In the present theoretical investigation the domains of the order of skew-cosh-Gaussian (skew-chG) laser beams for agiven set of skewness parameters and its significant effect on the self-focusing/defocusing in collisionless plasma has beenstudied. The nonlinearity in the dielectric function of collisionless plasma is mainly due to the ponderomotive force. Byfollowing parabolic wave equation approach under Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) and paraxial approximations,nonlinear coupled differential equations are established for the beam width parameters.     SEASONAL COMPARISON OF ERA-INTERIM PRECIPITATION DATASET FOR ENTIRE INDIAN REGION

    Era-Interim (ECMWF Re- analysis) is a global reanalysis atmospheric product which is being continuously updated in real time since 1979. It is also termed as third generation reanalysis product. The Era–Interim gives meteorological products like precipitation, temperature, etc. In the present work, 3-hourly Era–Interim product for the entire India is compared with gridded data provided by IMD for period 1979&ndash;2013 and APHRODITE data for period 1979&ndash;2007, respectively. The comparison is done on seasonal basis and the seasons are taken based on the pattern of rainfall, hence, the four seasons selected are DJF (December, January & February), MAM (March, April & May), JJAS (June, July, August & September) and ON (October & November). In the methodology the Era-Interim 3-hourly products are converted into the daily products and then it is used to form seasonal images for each year. All the images are then taken to form four images as outcome for the entire study period which represents the average rainfall (mm/day) for the entire region. This is being done for the IMD and for the APHRODITE Data. All the four images are then taken for the comparison with the reference images of the IMD 0.5º&thinsp;&times;&thinsp;0.5º gridded rainfall data and with the APHRODITE 0.5º&thinsp;&times;&thinsp;0.5º gridded rainfall data. The correlation coefficient and the RMSE for each season is calculated. The mean value is compared with the mean of IMD and APHRODITE rainfall products, respectively and a bias in mean is also calculated along with the scatter plots of Era-Interim with the reference datasets. The Era &ndash; Interim data came out with suitable comparative parameters with high correlation coefficient and low RMSE value in certain regions and in specific seasons. Scatter plots have also given good correlation in all the seasons. Bias maps have also shown very less bias in specific seasons for certain regions. The suitability maps prepared for the study region also shows that most of the region lies in most suitable range and very less in unsuitable range
