Probing the ZZgamma and Zgammagamma Couplings Through the Process e+e- --> nu anti-nu gamma
We study the sensitivity for testing the anomalous triple gauge couplings
and via the process
at high energy linear colliders. For integrated luminosities of 500
and center of mass energies between 0.5 and 1.5 , we find that this
process can provide tests of the triple neutral gauge boson couplings of order
, one order of magnitude lower than the standard model prediction.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
Differences between 1999 and 2010 across the Falkland Plateau: fronts and water masses
Decadal differences in the Falkland Plateau are
studied from the two full-depth hydrographic data collected
during the ALBATROSS (April 1999) and MOC-Austral
(February 2010) cruises. Differences in the upper 100 dbar
are due to changes in the seasonal thermocline, as the ALBATROSS
cruise took place in the austral fall and the MOCAustral
cruise in summer. The intermediate water masses
seem to be very sensitive to the wind conditions existing in
their formation area, showing cooling and freshening for the
decade as a consequence of a higher Antarctic Intermediate
Water (AAIW) contribution and of a decrease in the Subantarctic
Mode Water (SAMW) stratum. The deeper layers
do not exhibit any significant change in the water mass properties.
The Subantarctic Front (SAF) in 1999 is observed at
52.2–54.8 W with a relative mass transport of 32.6 Sv. In
contrast, the SAF gets wider in 2010, stretching from 51.1
to 57.2 W (the Falkland Islands), and weakening to 17.9 Sv.
Changes in the SAF can be linked with the westerly winds
and mainly affect the northward flow of Subantarctic Surface
Water (SASW), SAMW and AAIW/Antarctic Surface Water
(AASW). The Polar Front (PF) carries 24.9 Sv in 1999
(49.8–44.4 W), while in 2010 (49.9–49.2 W) it narrows
and strengthens to 37.3 Sv.En prens
Determination of biosorption mechanism in biomass of agave, using spectroscopic and microscopic techniques for the purification of contaminated water
[Abstract] Lead (Pb2+) and copper (Cu2+) are polluting metals due to their toxicity; however, the extraction of these metals is essential for economic development, so it is important to look for efficient and low-cost alternatives that can remove heavy metals from the various bodies of water. One of the alternatives used in this work is biosorption, for which an agroindustrial waste (epidermis from Agave atrovirens) was used to evaluate the affinity of removal of lead and copper in aqueous solutions; in addition, spectroscopy and microscopy techniques were used to elucidate and corroborate the removal and affinity capacity of the agave epidermis for both metals studied. The optimal pH value for the removal of both metals was 3. The adsorption isotherms yielded a qmax of 25.7 and 8.6 mg/g for lead and copper, respectively. Adjusting to the Langmuir-Freundlich model, the adsorption kinetics were pseudo-second order, and it was found that the equilibrium time was at 140 min. The spectroscopy and microscopy analyses corroborated the affinity between metals and functional groups of the agave, as well as with the elemental analysis, which reported 17.38% of lead and 4.25% of copper.[Resumen] El plomo (Pb2+) y el cobre (Cu2+) son metales contaminantes debido a su toxicidad; sin embargo, la extracción de estos metales es indispensable para el desarrollo económico, por lo que es importante buscar alternativas eficientes y de bajo costo que puedan remover metales pesados de los diversos cuerpos de agua. A New Simulated Annealing Algorithm for the Multiple Sequence Alignment Problem: The approach of Polymers in a Random Media
We proposed a probabilistic algorithm to solve the Multiple Sequence
Alignment problem. The algorithm is a Simulated Annealing (SA) that exploits
the representation of the Multiple Alignment between sequences as a
directed polymer in dimensions. Within this representation we can easily
track the evolution in the configuration space of the alignment through local
moves of low computational cost. At variance with other probabilistic
algorithms proposed to solve this problem, our approach allows for the creation
and deletion of gaps without extra computational cost. The algorithm was tested
aligning proteins from the kinases family. When D=3 the results are consistent
with those obtained using a complete algorithm. For where the complete
algorithm fails, we show that our algorithm still converges to reasonable
alignments. Moreover, we study the space of solutions obtained and show that
depending on the number of sequences aligned the solutions are organized in
different ways, suggesting a possible source of errors for progressive
algorithms.Comment: 7 pages and 11 figure
On the use of sniffers for spectrum occupancy measurements of Bluetooth low energy primary channels
The methods usually employed to measure channel occupancy show limitations in the context of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) advertisements. We propose and analyze the use of BLE sniffers as light and portable low-cost spectrum occupancy meters to be used in scenarios where real time signal analyzers are not adequate. For the measurement technique to be successful, several low-level effects must be considered. The paper argues about on-air time, receiving blind times due to processing and intra system interference, buffer saturation and frequency anchoring. Hence, a compensation procedure based on collision rate estimation is proposed. Results with the refined method show that occupancies of 40% can be measured with an overestimation error whose percentile 95% is 5 percentage points. This is reduced to 1.9 points when the occupancy is 15%. The sniffers perform in real time and are shown to correctly track short term load variations. The strategy has been successfully used to characterize occupancy in highly variable and loaded scenarios such as subway platforms and a shopping mall. Values up to 25% have been observed, which implies a relevant packet error rate. Hence, the tool can be used to make agile audits and configure the parameters that control communication redundancy in new or existing networks
New properties of a bioinspired pyridine benzimidazole compound as a novel differential staining agent for endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus in fluorescence live cell imaging
Indexación: Scopus. In this study, we explored new properties of the bioinspired pyridine benzimidazole compound B2 (2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(3H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine-2-yl)phenol) regarding its potential use as a differential biomarker. For that, we performed 1D 1HNMR (TOCSY), UV-Vis absorption spectra in different organic solvents, voltammetry profile (including a scan-rate study), and TD-DFT calculations that including NBO analyses, to provide valuable information about B2 structure and luminescence. In our study, we found that the B2 structure is highly stable, where the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond (IHB) seems to have a crucial role in the stability of luminescence, and its emission can be assigned as fluorescence. In fact, we found that the relatively large Stokes Shift observed for B2 (around 175 nm) may be attributed to the stability of the B2 geometry and the strength of its IHB. On the other hand, we determined that B2 is biocompatible by cytotoxicity experiments in HeLa cells, an epithelial cell line. Furthermore, in cellular assays we found that B2 could be internalized by passive diffusion in absence of artificial permeabilization at short incubation times (15 min to 30 min). Fluorescence microscopy studies confirmed that B2 accumulates in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus, two organelles involved in the secretory pathway. Finally, we determined that B2 exhibited no noticeable blinking or bleaching after 1 h of continuous exposure. Thus, B2 provides a biocompatible, rapid, simple, and efficient way to fluorescently label particular organelles, producing similar results to that obtained with other well-established but more complex methods. © 2018 Llancalahuen, Fuentes, Carreño, Zúñiga, Páez-Hernández, Gacitúa, Polanco, Preite, Arratia-Pérez and Otero.https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fchem.2018.00345/ful
