Search for New Particles Decaying to Dijets in p-pbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV

We have used 19 pb**-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for new particles decaying to dijets. We exclude at 95% confidence level models containing the following new particles: axigluons with mass between 200 and 870 GeV, excited quarks with mass between 80 and 570 GeV, and color octet technirhos with mass between 320 and 480 GeV.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letters in December 199

    Measurement of σ⋅B(W→eÎœ)\sigma \cdot B (W \to e \nu) and σ⋅B(Z0→e+e−)\sigma \cdot B(Z^0 \to e^+e^-) in ppˉp {\bar p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV

    We present a measurement of σ⋅B(W→eÎœ)\sigma \cdot B(W \to e \nu) and σ⋅B(Z0→e+e−)\sigma \cdot B(Z^0 \to e^+e^-) in proton - antiproton collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s} =1.8 TeV using a significantly improved understanding of the integrated luminosity. The data represent an integrated luminosity of 19.7 pb−1^{-1} from the 1992-1993 run with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). We find σ⋅B(W→eÎœ)=2.49±0.12\sigma \cdot B(W \to e \nu) = 2.49 \pm 0.12~nb and σ⋅B(Z0→e+e−)=0.231±0.012\sigma \cdot B(Z^0 \to e^+e^-) = 0.231 \pm 0.012~nb.Comment: Uses Latex, Article 12 point, figure appended as uuencoded file The full PostScript available via WWW at http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/physics/pub95/cdf3312_sigma_1a_prl_v3.p

Measurement of the mass of the B-s(0) meson

    No full text
We measure the mass of the B-s(0) meson by reconstructing the decay chain B-s(0)-->J/psi phi, J/psi-->mu(+)mu(-), and phi-->K+K-. The data are obtained from 19.3 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity of collisions at root s=1.8 TeV using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. A sample of 80 000 inclusive J/psi-->mu(+)mu(-) events is used to study systematic biases in track reconstruction and to calibrate the momentum scale. We reconstruct the kinematically similar decays B+-->J/mu K+ and B-0-->J/psi K*(0) to study the mass measurement technique used for the B-s(0) meson. Based on the observation of 32 +/- 6 candidates, the mass of the B-s(0) meson is measured to be 5369.9 +/- 2.3 +/- 1.3 MeV/c(2) and the mass difference between B-s(0) and the average mass of B+ and B-0 is determined to be 89.7 +/- 2.7 +/- 1.2 MeV/c(2)

MEASUREMENT OF THE AVERAGE LIFETIME OF B-HADRONS PRODUCED IN P(P)OVER-BAR COLLISIONS AT ROOT-S = 1.8 TEV

    No full text
The average b-hadron lifetime has been measured using a high statistics sample of B --> J/psi) X decays recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The decay vertices of 5344 inclusive J/psi --> mu+mu-candidates have been reconstructed using information from a silicon vertex detector. The measured B lifetime, which is the average over all b hadrons produced in ppBAR collisions at square-root s = 1.8 TeV weighted by their branching ratios into J/psi, is 1.46 +/- 0.06(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) ps

Properties of High-mass Multijet Events At the Fermilab Proton-antiproton Collider

    No full text
none408The properties of two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-jet events with multijet masses >600 GeV/c(2) are compared with QCD predictions. The shapes of the multijet-mass and leading-jet-angular distributions are approximately independent of jet multiplicity and are well described by the NJETS matrix element calculation and the HERWIG parton shower Monte Carlo predictions. The observed jet transverse momentum distributions for three- and four-jet events discriminate between the matrix element and parton shower predictions, the data favoring the matrix element calculation.noneF. W-BOSON PLUS JET ANGULAR-DISTRIBUTION IN P(P)OVER-BAR COLLISIONS AT ROOT-S=1.8-TEV

    No full text
The W + jet angular distribution is measured using W --> ev events recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) during the 1988-89 and 1992-93 Tevatron runs. The data agree well with both a leading order and a next-to-leading order theoretical prediction. The shape of the angular distribution is similar to that observed in photon + jet data and significantly different from that observed in dijet data

Observation of the Decay B(s)0-]j-psi-phi In (p)over-bar-p Collisions At Root-s = 1.8 Tev

    No full text
This Letter reports the observation and mass measurement of fully reconstructed B(s)0 mesons through the decay chain B(s)0 --> J/psiphi, J/psi --> mu+mu-, phi --> K+K- using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in ppBAR collisions at square-root s = 1.8 TeV. A signal of 14.0 +/- 4.7 events is observed. Comparison of the B(s)0 signal with the kinematically similar decays B+ --> J/psiK+ and B0 --> J/psiK*(892)0 is presented. The mass of the B(s)0 meson is determined to be 5383.3 +/- 4.5 (stat) +/- 5.0 (syst) MeV/c2

    UPSILON-PRODUCTION IN P(P)OVER-BAR COLLISIONS AT ROOT-S=1.8 TEV

We report on measurements of the Upsilon(1S), Upsilon(2S), and Upsilon(3S) differential, (d(2) sigma/dP(t)dy)(y=0), and integrated cross sections in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.8 TeV using a sample of 16.6 +/- 0.6 pb(-1) collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The three resonances were reconstructed through the decay Upsilon --> mu(+)mu(-). Comparison is made to a leading order QCD prediction

    Measurement of the W-boson Mass

    No full text
This paper presents a measurement of the mass of the W boson using data collected with the CDF detector during the 1992-1993 collider run at the Fermilab Tevatron. A fit to the transverse mass spectrum of a sample of 3268 W --> mu nu events recorded in an integrated luminosity of 19.7 pb(-1) gives M(W)(mu) = 80.310 +/- 0.205 (stat) +/- 0.130 (syst) GeV/c(2). A fit to the transverse mass spectrum ofa sample of 5718 W --> ev events recorded in 18.2 pb(-1) gives M(W)(e) = 80.490 +/- 0.145 (stat) +/- 0.175 (syst) GeV/c(2). Combining the muon and electron results, accounting for correlated uncertainties, yields Mw = 80.410 +/- 0.180 GeV/c(2)
